Today’s easy beginner acrylic painting tutorial is of a colorful portrait landscape of a young male child fishing next to a body of water, which could be a lake, river, or brook. Throughout the easy step-by-step art tutorial, you'll learn fundamental beginner painting techniques, on how to mix and blend acrylic paint using color theory to create natural landscape and portrait colors. You'll learn to create 3D effects like a photo in this fisherman's canvas art and wall art image. Have fun with your outdoor art and paint it abstract, illustration, impressionistic, or pop art. Have a date night at home, paint party, sip and paint event, or virtual paint night. Paint with pastel, oil paint, or watercolor, any medium will work! Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 3/4 inch flat bristle, #6 round synthetic, #2 round synthetic
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, burnt umber (brown), mars black, green oxide, chrome yellow, burnt sienna (rust), fire red and cobalt blue
Other: chalk, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Paint base coat on canvas with black, brown and white
2. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Finish water with beige (made in step #1), gray (made in step #1), red, blue, white, rust and yellow
3. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Paint tree line reflection and base coat for land with white, brown, black, green, rust and yellow
4. pencil -- Draw outline for boy fisherman
5. #6 round brush - Paint base coat for fisherman with green, yellow, rust, brown, white, black, blue, red
6. #2 and #6 round brushes - Finish fisherman's pole and ripple in water with dark green (made in step #3), yellow, white, red, gray, beige and light blue (made in step #2)
7. #6 round brush - Finish rock with black, brown, yellow, white, rust and red
8. #2 and #6 round brushes - Paint blue jean overalls with blue jean blue (made in step #5), black white and light blue
9. #2 round brush -- Finish skin with skin tone (made in step #5), brown, rust, red, yellow, and white
10. #2 round brush -- Paint hair with black, brown, white, rust, yellow and skin
11. #2 and #6 round brushes -- Finish grassy stuff with black, brown, dark green (made in step #3), light green (made in step #6), rust, white
12. #2 round -- Sing with black

Absolutely beautiful. Reminded me of my grandson when he was small.
Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. It reminds me of my son when he was a little tike. He still fishes to this day at 46. It took me about 4 days working on it, and finally finished and very happy with the outcome come. You’re a great teacher!

This is phenomenal! It is realistic. My grandfather used to take me fishing in Lake Winnipesaukee. I caught my first fish there. This is a epic painting.

Michelle those little marks on the pole are what the line goes thru they are usually sliver so rust. Beautiful painting I was so drawn to this painting because it looks so much like my nicest grandson. Love love can’t keep my eyes off of it. You have done a great rendition of the photo.

Michelle,thanks so much for the tutorial. I have a question; do you add something into the pain on your palate to retard their drying process ? I find if I put paint out on a palate like you do it dries very quickly. Thank you.

No, I just use a thin-bodied student grade paint called Blickrylics which is very fluid and does not dry out quickly. You can purchase it here: berkshirepaintandsip.squarespace.com/shop
serious question do you have extender in your colors, I have watched for almost two hours and your paints are still wet!!! how do you do that? oh , just loving this painting!!!
