Gone Astray | Short Film | France | BMPCC 6k Pro + Canon FD 28/2.0

What started as a losely planned exercise in cinematography during a workaway in France with my mate turned into somewhat of a short film I'd like to share with you.
Shot on BMPCC 6K Pro and Canon FD 28/2.0 in Le Buis, Southern France on a late afternoon in February 2022.
Directed, shot and edited by Florian Ropers, featuring Ole Schneiders, Pasha the dog and our host "Tonnie" - the voice from the off.
Graded & Edited in DaVinci Resolve with Buttery Eterna LUT by as base
Sound Design in Audio Design Desk (ADD)
Music via Artlist:

@@florianropers Is this the ssc FD? How are you liking it?
@florianropers
Жыл бұрын
@@kmshairstay It's the FDn version - got it together with my FDn 20/2.8 for a good deal. The prices for the SSC version are irrational. I like the 28 a lot in terms of focal length and overall character. It has a glow to it when wide open but that stops after ever so slightly stopping down
This is incredibly well shot and acted and stuff. I really want this lens now haha, its got such interesting character

Hey thank you - that’s very kind. I really like that lens too and you can achieve a lot with that focal length alone.

@@florianropers it also seems like its got a really close minimum focus too which is always handy, the bokeh is SOOOO nice, definitely up there with the best looking shorts on youtube. As good as “by the brook” which features the glorious Helios 44-2

Naahw man - sorry your comment slipped my radar until now. The bokeh IS definitely special under the right conditions like when my mate is contemplating leaving the bottle before he goes into the forest. Funny that you mention the Helios because I added a bit of „swirly bokeh“ on some shots with a radial blurr vignette. Again - super kind of you to comment. I wish I would have gotten better audio to match the visuals but I only recorded with the internal mic and did a lot of sound design in post to level it up. Take care man 😉
nice film and stunning colors. Was this shot mostly wide open?

Thanks man - appreciate you. I stepped down ever so slightly in most cases and generally between 2.0-2.8 I think. The lens has a bit of glow/ghosting if it’s open all the way. I think it’s visible at the portrait shot of him when he‘s wearing the hat before he goes up into the bushes/stone walls
This looks amazing! Which adapter did you use?
@florianropers
Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks - really appreciate that! I didn‘t use an adapter - the lens is converted to EF mount with an old Ed Mika kit
Wow! Did you use gimbal or handheld? Any stabilization in post?
@florianropers
Жыл бұрын
Thanks man - I shot it all handheld with a heavier handheld rig and top handle. I applied some stabilization in post here and there
Nice

Thanks a lot buddy - I have the nFD version of the 28/2.0 and I‘m pretty happy with it. My set consists of a mix of SSC and nFD lenses and they are all giving me stunning results.

@@florianropers thank you I just bought the bmpcc6k and I see that alot of people use canon FDs but i am just finding out that there are different types of FDs

Sorry - I just now see your comment. Congratulations to the 6K - it’s an awesome camera. Yes there are different kinds of FD lenses. The SSC and nFDs and different tiers (2.8/2.0/1.2-1.4 etc). Unfortunately you need to convert them to EF too

Very nice work, what kind of adapter are you using, I bought some FD lenses but I have problems with focus
@florianropers

Sorry for the late reply. I don’t use adapters - those don’t work with EF because of the flange distance. You would have to convert the mount to EF. Or maybe get the new BMCC6K with L-mount which makes it easier to to adapt lenses and would increase the character of those because of the FF sensor
Hi, what ring do you use

The only viable option is to convert the mount to EF. This one already had the old Ed Mika conversion done to it when I bought it. He has since partnered up with Simmod - they are offering the best quality conversion kits to date. - simmodlens.com
