4 years of weight training left me with a chronic golfer's elbow in my right elbow. Got checked by a doc and the scan showed my tendon quality wasn't that of a 23 year old anymore. Did a minimally invasive surgery its been 2-3 years after the surgery and no gym. That arm is no longer what it used to be and I cannot push it over 70% of it's capability without pain again. For the most things it doesn't bother me and I forget about it but If I overextend and put pressure on my elbow then the pain definitely reminds me to stop. Just learn to get along with it and do your sports at ease don't go crazy and make sure you don't overtrain.

@@Memento__Mori Yeah okay. It's pretty easy to injure yourself when you're just getting into something really physical. I knew a bloke that hadn't done much weight training or sports before and decided to jump on roids. He reckoned he felt unstoppable and just kept pushing way to hard. Problem is your tendons just can't keep up with the pace of your muscle growth on gear. Afew years down the track and his joints are like that of a sixty year old with tears and strains and cant lift more than a cup of tea without feeling a twang. Poor, silly bastard.

@@swansong5960 Yes that it absolutely true, I was around 16 when I started hitting the gym, my problem was the ego and the strength I gained in a short period of time. I felt unstoppable during my workouts and trained 6 to 7 times a week. Basically bodybuilding schedule for a beginner gym goer...I learned the hard way, at least now I do my best to warn others of these things :)

FWIW, I did go to my PC on Monday to rule out any tears or such. I'm opting to do therapy at home with the exercises she gave me and what you've shared here rather than get a steroid injection. :)

I've had tennis elbow several times but golfers elbow is a first for me. Not sure how I got it but I do a lot of dirt motorcycling (and not easy stuff!) and it's been an issue for the last couple of months. Doesn't effect my riding but I can feel it when I do my rowing exercises. So I'm, giving your treatments a go Bob and Brad. It already feels a bit better after just a few minutes of massage. Thanks heaps and I'll let you know how I go.

I have had golfer’s elbow. I would say a daily combination of heat and ice but also total rest from whatever action caused the pain. For me, it was chin ups. I no longer do them. After about two months of rest from elbow strain I still had a bit of pain so I asked for a cortisone shot. That cleared up that last little bit of pain and I gave it another one week. This injury can really screw up your exercise routine because of how critical your elbows are. I totally switched to core exercises for those two months so all was not lost.

To be honest I don't feel like this is good advice. Ice is an old school method of treatment. For me starting with isometrics was significantly more effective in reducing the initial pain. Do this once w day till the pain dies down and you can move your arm normally with no pain. From here it should be a mix of exercises and stretching. I recommend only doing strength training every other day and do stretching on the off days. Start with very little and don't make big jumps. If you feel good doing 1 pound don't jump to 3 pounds. It just doesn't work like that. The key is NOT to overload the tendon or you'll regress to an earlier stage. In my experience if you do the exercises at night and feel pain for more than half of the day after you did too much and should back off on the intensity. Be patient. This injury sucks but you'll just prolong your recovery if you're too aggressive.

My elbow doesn't hurt to the touch, at all... but hurts near that spot when I do pressing exercises, or sometimes, even pulling, like pull-ups. Not sure if it's "golfer's elbow" or some kind of tendonitis. It's not too awful and I've had this for months and have been able to work around it - - shifting the angle of my arm in exercises can help, but it doesn't go away...

The last two fingers (ring and pinky - especially the ring finger)muscles going through the forearm seem most tied into the attachment that causes pain, so when doing pull-ups (and wide grip is better than narrow), I try to keep those fingers relaxed, or even sticking out -- it helps a little; enough to be able to keep working out. The problem hasn't gone away for me, but may have eased up a little. I also don't worry about getting my chin over the bar(to avoid cheating up with more arm/forearm assistance), since the lower half of the exercise is the more effective part, anyway... and I try to keep arm bending in pull-ups to a minimum... mentally approaching it with a pull-over(that sort of half-circular motion) in mind, even if it's still a pull-up. It all helps a bit...The pain is less noticeable now in pressing, maybe due to the changed way of pulling?
