GOLF R Engine rebuild PART 1: When you think it should be straight forward!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We start the build process of the tuned Golf R engine. After accumulating all the ‘trick’ parts for this build it’s time to fit the crank and dummy build to get the correct piston to head clearance, we show you guys how this is done. Also, we have a delivery for the E30, very exciting

    They do look very nice and the thing is if you were buying a name such as AP Racing or Alcon you would be spending more like 6-8 grand! so 2 grand seems a really good deal!

    "Sputter bearings". Thanks, I knew absolutely nothing about them before. It is nice to learn something new, especially if it's about something I thought I already knew pretty much everything relevant to do with bearings. BTW Lee, I noticed some flaring again, especially in the early part of the video where you're facing the camera up at yourself and catching your fleuro lights there. That suggests either a smudged lens or possibly some fogging. I know your climate would be damper than where I am but, I have had issues with that before, even lost a camera when the factory installed smoke escaped it when I took it out of the boot of my car on a cold morning and turned it on. I can only assume that being cold the condensation somehow shorted something out inside and that was the end of a rather expensive Minolta SLR film camera. Same cause as a lot of lens fogging too, cold camera brought out into warmer humid conditions. I'm a lot more careful now to make sure things like camera gear, in those sort of conditions is either kept somewhat warmer or, very gently warmed up to a temp slightly ABOVE ambient for a while before pulling it out, that way you also get no fogging. Just be very cautious that you don't overheat things. You can easily and cheaply buy simple little USB powered mesh heat pads that only run at a few Watts that could be put in a bag under or against the camera or a multitude of other means. Baby bottle warming wrap type things often incorporate a thermostat too so, they can be a bit safer maybe once re-engineered to suit your purpose. If it's not a fogging issue, CLEAN THAT LENS PROPERLY!!

    the discs have angled airways to help on cooling so they are left and right handed so don't get them mixed up as brakes will over heat and cause damage.

    We had Hawk pads in a track day Alfetta and they were fine. We then put some in a dirt rally Alfetta and they were diabolical. Compared the 2 sets of pads and they looked totally different. Chucked a set of Standard pads in the dirt car and all problems were solved so beware

    Hi Lee, how come you don't use assembly lude on the rebuilds?

  • @fc3sboy1
    @fc3sboy1 Жыл бұрын

    Depends on what compound hawk pads you have will either sqeek bad and or tear up your rotors. Black compound extremely hard on the rotors blues are hard on them and tend to heat cracks and are noisy. Dtc 30 dtc 60 are easy on the rotors but dust all above are race only. The hawk street pads suck don't use them. Run carbotech xr8 xr10 pads. You will thank me later

    When you take that 0.022 inch off the crown, what do you do to the valve pockets? Do you cut them deeper too, or are they generally deep enough to give the clearance needed?

  • @2rmmotorsport
    @2rmmotorsport Жыл бұрын

    Rather than taking 0.022” off the pistons, could you not just take the 0.007” off to get them flush and then use a 0.040” head gasket?

    Oh man, I have done similar paranoid mistakes, is 2am and Alf of a sudden the thoughts start popping.... Did I do this? Was it torque? Was it in the correct key in the chain...? I have gone to the garage and opened an engine in the middle of the night cause it does not let me sleep... 😅

    Hey regarding the Golf R engine assembly i notice your conrod bearings you put in don't have the oil hole in the centre of either bearing shell , question is how does it get lubricantion or is this a mistake you have made getting confused using a scatter bearing which i assume is from another new set bearings as a combination.

  • @mazb6t

    @mazb6t

    Жыл бұрын

    Conrod bearings don't need oil holes as they are lubricated by the drilling(s) in the crankpins they're running on, main bearings do though as they are fed from the block and in turn to the aforementioned crankpins via drillings in the webs.
