GOLF R Engine rebuild PART 1: When you think it should be straight forward!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We start the build process of the tuned Golf R engine. After accumulating all the ‘trick’ parts for this build it’s time to fit the crank and dummy build to get the correct piston to head clearance, we show you guys how this is done. Also, we have a delivery for the E30, very exciting

Whistle and bells!! Thought is was bells and whistles 😂
Do not forget to these discs are handed,
More of the detailed engine builds please!!
E30 parts...looks like Christmas has come early....they look super quality...👍👍
Nice to see parts arriving for the E30!!, those calipers look like they would stop about anything.

They do look very nice and the thing is if you were buying a name such as AP Racing or Alcon you would be spending more like 6-8 grand! so 2 grand seems a really good deal!

I had compbrake setup and it was nowhere as good as the AP setup i had before.
All the money spent on the E30 parts is money well spent, look at all the enjoyment even opening the boxes never mind building the E30 and all the fun all you guys will have. Fun, team building and a great car at the end of the day whats not to like.

It's probably the most cost effective advertising as well and likely to attract sponsorship.
"look at the vents, very cool" you just couldn't write it 😂😂😂
"Sputter bearings". Thanks, I knew absolutely nothing about them before. It is nice to learn something new, especially if it's about something I thought I already knew pretty much everything relevant to do with bearings. BTW Lee, I noticed some flaring again, especially in the early part of the video where you're facing the camera up at yourself and catching your fleuro lights there. That suggests either a smudged lens or possibly some fogging. I know your climate would be damper than where I am but, I have had issues with that before, even lost a camera when the factory installed smoke escaped it when I took it out of the boot of my car on a cold morning and turned it on. I can only assume that being cold the condensation somehow shorted something out inside and that was the end of a rather expensive Minolta SLR film camera. Same cause as a lot of lens fogging too, cold camera brought out into warmer humid conditions. I'm a lot more careful now to make sure things like camera gear, in those sort of conditions is either kept somewhat warmer or, very gently warmed up to a temp slightly ABOVE ambient for a while before pulling it out, that way you also get no fogging. Just be very cautious that you don't overheat things. You can easily and cheaply buy simple little USB powered mesh heat pads that only run at a few Watts that could be put in a bag under or against the camera or a multitude of other means. Baby bottle warming wrap type things often incorporate a thermostat too so, they can be a bit safer maybe once re-engineered to suit your purpose. If it's not a fogging issue, CLEAN THAT LENS PROPERLY!!
Issac got it spot on they're called DISC'S, Lee, not ROTOR'S, FFS.

Here in the States we've always been bassackwards... we call em rotors. Hope we haven't corrupted Lee. Have an awesome day y'all.

@@connor45rm85 thanks Connor... Have a great evening. :-)
Loving the E30 build, look forward to every video :)
All very impressive. And never seen hubless discs before.
I’ve used Compbrake on some Subaru’s, always worked ok for me 👍
Lee, I have Hawk brake pads on my Mustang and they are great. I have abused them severely and they have never let me down.
the discs have angled airways to help on cooling so they are left and right handed so don't get them mixed up as brakes will over heat and cause damage.
Big! Interesting.
5 drinks today from the E30 game. Big start to the week.
Lee, what about the valve relief fly cuts, the valves will be moved down by what ever you took off the block, right?

I'm sure he said he had to machine down the pistons Dennis. Because they where to high in the block by so much of thou's. 🤔
Surprised you never heard of Hawk pads, they have been around for ever for performance use. We use them in a Formula Ford and have been excellent. You can get different compounds.
Clean the dust off that telecom box behind your desk … my OCD is off the charts …
We had Hawk pads in a track day Alfetta and they were fine. We then put some in a dirt rally Alfetta and they were diabolical. Compared the 2 sets of pads and they looked totally different. Chucked a set of Standard pads in the dirt car and all problems were solved so beware
btw ive had good success on track with Hawk pads.
Hi Lee, how come you don't use assembly lude on the rebuilds?
Depends on what compound hawk pads you have will either sqeek bad and or tear up your rotors. Black compound extremely hard on the rotors blues are hard on them and tend to heat cracks and are noisy. Dtc 30 dtc 60 are easy on the rotors but dust all above are race only. The hawk street pads suck don't use them. Run carbotech xr8 xr10 pads. You will thank me later
When you take that 0.022 inch off the crown, what do you do to the valve pockets? Do you cut them deeper too, or are they generally deep enough to give the clearance needed?
Rather than taking 0.022” off the pistons, could you not just take the 0.007” off to get them flush and then use a 0.040” head gasket?
👍
Do you use any assembly lube on this engine. I didnt see you use any?
Oh man, I have done similar paranoid mistakes, is 2am and Alf of a sudden the thoughts start popping.... Did I do this? Was it torque? Was it in the correct key in the chain...? I have gone to the garage and opened an engine in the middle of the night cause it does not let me sleep... 😅
I think you have Airbus A330 brakes.
Personally guys I like the E30 content
Not heard of “ graphite paste “ on studs before. Are you cutting the center of the piston as well as the top edges? Asking for a friend..

Yea I'm sure arp calls for engine oil that's how mine are installed notice he tourqed the mains in one hit straight to 80 no 3steps in GB
Hey regarding the Golf R engine assembly i notice your conrod bearings you put in don't have the oil hole in the centre of either bearing shell , question is how does it get lubricantion or is this a mistake you have made getting confused using a scatter bearing which i assume is from another new set bearings as a combination.
@mazb6t
Жыл бұрын
Conrod bearings don't need oil holes as they are lubricated by the drilling(s) in the crankpins they're running on, main bearings do though as they are fed from the block and in turn to the aforementioned crankpins via drillings in the webs.
Is there a lip read option 😂
So who delivered ya brakes then??!! ;-)
Everything I've ever bought from compbrake has been utter shite hope you have better luck than I have
It's Christmas all over again. Ho! Ho! Ho!, and I ain't talk'n bout your neighbors wife! Love those black calipers. Sweet!!! Guys, if building this kit car makes your clock tick, then screw the comments and do your thing. Work hard, play even harder!! I can't wait to see and hear, the finished product. BTW, who drives the cars when you are on the track?
No volume ?
what about arrow rods?

I’ve got Williams forged steel in mine Good for 450 so I’m told and cheap compared to well known brands and he builds rally motors
Did you forget the audio, young man?

Hmm. Audio track is perfect for me.
Rotors not discs.
Hope you don’t like your wheels with ceramic pads. As they will be covered in metal filings that burn themselves into the paint and then rust.
A bit of a tangent but GT7 have openned up the engine swaps propper now. Be something to frig about with. Since you're talking golf how would you all fix this 😁 kzread.info/dash/bejne/anufupmamdeXc7Q.html
Changed the batteries in my hearing aids. Didn't work.😂
E30 buy
Don't want to be a hater but Compbrake??? Utter rubbish product, awful service and Hawk pads scream like a boy band.

Never heard of them before, you got bad experience with them?
With such a small car and such large duscs, will u even get them in the temp operating window?
