In Brazil, this engine is called AP-High Performance, it equipped many Volkswagen and Ford cars at one time. It is the most used engine for cars prepared here, it has a lot of performance parts for it, it can exceed 1000hp. Here you have versions 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 8v and 16v. Today there is no longer a new car with this engine, but even so it is the most popular engine in Brazil and they joke that parts can be found even in the bakery.

No, you are wrong about this engine. The engine from this video is a 2.0 tall block. Nothing to do with Brazilian ap 2.0. Brazilian ap 2.0 only existed in Brazil. In matter of fact it was a bad idea, because Brazilian VW used the same small block from 1.6 and 1.8, and only changed the crankshaft (more stroke) , and made little bigger pistons bore. As result, is a engine that has an awful Rod Ratio, that causes too many vibrations and too many wear (ovalization) on cilinders. They had more low power end only. 4500 5000rpm and is time to change next gear. They had basically the same power of 1.8

@@luizgueleri Yes, bad idea for people. Good idea for manufacturer. The Brazilian 2.0 was a cheap adaptation that gave no more power compared to the Brazilians 1.8, with the gti camshaft that was selled in Brasil in sports car. Named 101049g. This part came from gti mk1.

TIP: If you can't find any part for this engine (Or any engine from EA827/EA837 family), search for the part on brazillian market. Here on Brazil they're called AP (Alta Performance in portuguese) and we have a lot of this engines, they're produced until 2012 and came in many vehicles: - VW GOL 1.6/1.8 (Hatch version of VW Fox, my favorite version is the Gol 1.6 Plus 1986, my dad had one of these) - VW Golf MK3 1.6/1.8 - VW Parati 1.6/1.8 (It´s the VW FOX Station Wagon, basically) - VW Santana 1.8/2.0 (I think this one is the brazillian version of the Passat, not sure) - VW Saveiro 1.6/1.8 (Not sure if this one exist on Europe, but is a pick-up version of the VW GOL) - VW Passat 1.6/1.8 (Uhh... this one is that version that is very similar to the Scciroco) - VW Logus 1.8 (This is the VW GOL that was selled on Mexico, i guess.) And many FORD cars use this engine too (if you search for AUTOLATINA you'll understand why, but is basically a friendship between VW and FORD): - FORD Verona 1.6/1.8 - FORD Escort 1.8 (I guess, not sure now) OHH, i almost forgot, WE HAVE A LOT OF PERFORMANCE PARTS FOR THIS ENGINE ON BRAZIL. It's só easy to find pistons or connecting rods or anything to increase performance, we have a joke for it too: If you go to backery to buy some bread, the change will be some pistons and rods for AP. Some of these uses EFI or Multi Point Injection (or whatever this is called) too and exist three versions of heads: 8v, 16v and 20v. I think this is all useful information that i got for anyone that still have this engines out of the Brazil. I'll help anyone that want some help for something...

For the gearbox you could have used a Golf 3 GTI box such as the CHE, this has the 2mm larger 24mm 28 spline input shaft and would match your engines character better than a 4S, although I often use a taller fifth gear for cars being predominantly used on the motorway, making the CHE a 4+E. Modifying it to work in a Golf 1 is quite easy and you could maintain the 100 output shafts by using the 84 onwards Golf 1 platform (Scirocco/Cabrio) driveshafts and hub carriers. These parts are a lot stronger as I found with my own 2L Golf 1 (DX block with 3A internals) it was too much for the 7G box and 90mm driveshafts.

Onwijs mooie video ditmaal !

Won't give away too much regarding the innards of my block but engine is built to run mix if needed but I'm running pump only for now. For now I'm still using MP9 but throttles are on the cards. Habe standalone management, 4-2-1 branch with 50mil stainless exhaust and 1 back box.
