In Brazil, this engine is called AP-High Performance, it equipped many Volkswagen and Ford cars at one time. It is the most used engine for cars prepared here, it has a lot of performance parts for it, it can exceed 1000hp. Here you have versions 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 8v and 16v. Today there is no longer a new car with this engine, but even so it is the most popular engine in Brazil and they joke that parts can be found even in the bakery.

No, you are wrong about this engine. The engine from this video is a 2.0 tall block. Nothing to do with Brazilian ap 2.0. Brazilian ap 2.0 only existed in Brazil. In matter of fact it was a bad idea, because Brazilian VW used the same small block from 1.6 and 1.8, and only changed the crankshaft (more stroke) , and made little bigger pistons bore. As result, is a engine that has an awful Rod Ratio, that causes too many vibrations and too many wear (ovalization) on cilinders. They had more low power end only. 4500 5000rpm and is time to change next gear. They had basically the same power of 1.8

@@luizgueleri Yes, bad idea for people. Good idea for manufacturer. The Brazilian 2.0 was a cheap adaptation that gave no more power compared to the Brazilians 1.8, with the gti camshaft that was selled in Brasil in sports car. Named 101049g. This part came from gti mk1.

20 minutes of Memphis is never enough! I’m always amazed by your depth of knowledge, you mellifluous voice, wonderful wit and brilliant skill. The Golf is looking great, can’t wait for the first turnover of that shiny new lump 👌👍
8:15 a rogue wife/girlfriend/sister or mother appears. Extra pair of hands always useful.
Great to see you and the Golf back on here, you have a great talent for working on cars and your English completes your videos so I can still watch in the UK.
Once upon a time an algorithm has blessed me with a recommendation of your channel and I couldn't be more glad that it happened. Fantastic series!
I was so hoping we would see it come alive. Can’t wait to hear it. Nice job.
Dont know how much you torqued the pressure plate to the crankshaft, but did not look like 100NM as factory spec, also some threadlocker wont do any harm.
Thumbs up for wearing sound protection!
Well done, young man! Looking forward to hearing this engine come to life. I really miss working on MK1 and MK2 VWs...
Very Long Time I‘m waiting for this amazing Video !!! Wow , Best grat from Bavariaaaa
Feels good to be back! Watching you taking care of that VW gives me a goal and hope to finish my mark II Jetta, it's my first car and I love it and I treat it like my son. Keep up the good work! ❤
Yessssssss I've been waiting for this day! So excited! Thanks for the content Memphis! You never disappoint🙏🏻🙌🏻
I was waiting so long for this episode
I am impressed by your mechanican skills. Great to see that someone in your age is interested in car stuff!
Pro tip, we made one of these crates for engine jobs at the dealer since setting up the bed sucks. Tape. Mark off last position your crate wheels were with tape to be ball park of where your engine goes. Car looks great!!!
Fantastic video - great content. By the way. That exhaust manifold is an absolute work of Art!
Looks fine in the engine bay for now, you did a good job on that with the solutions found. Can't wait to hear it come to life !😄
Probably best video for me because I’m working with my Audi 80 b2 and planing about bike carbs , and you giving me so much tips , even I know is not the audi but same engine block and top head is different but the process is the same , big big thanks 🙏
Congratulations! Waiting for the first start. You really deserve a new table 😁
Memphis! Another great video! Can't wait to see the next one! Respect
Really enjoyed watching the golf get its new engine. Those carbs and trumpets look really amazing, too! Killer job 👌🏻👌🏻
AWESOME! Love the induction system! I've got the same TA 4-2-1 header pipe on my Mk1 Jetta. This car is going to sound great! Also get their lower frame brace kit. It firms up the chassis without being too harsh. Good job mate - can't wait until the next video!
Your channel is so awesome you put a lot of effort into professional production
Yes!!!!! Finally a new video! Can't wait for the end result!
Blimey! that thing is looking sick!!!! i am so pumped for the start up
What a great video. Long time no see but finally I have something amazing to watch during home office.
Great video, as always👍 Can’t wait for the next 😎
Loved the video! Just bought a mk1 myself and going to be rebuilding it, keep up the good work!
looks so clean! Amazing job as always
Looking sweet ! Liked the little start tease at the end.
TIP: If you can't find any part for this engine (Or any engine from EA827/EA837 family), search for the part on brazillian market. Here on Brazil they're called AP (Alta Performance in portuguese) and we have a lot of this engines, they're produced until 2012 and came in many vehicles: - VW GOL 1.6/1.8 (Hatch version of VW Fox, my favorite version is the Gol 1.6 Plus 1986, my dad had one of these) - VW Golf MK3 1.6/1.8 - VW Parati 1.6/1.8 (It´s the VW FOX Station Wagon, basically) - VW Santana 1.8/2.0 (I think this one is the brazillian version of the Passat, not sure) - VW Saveiro 1.6/1.8 (Not sure if this one exist on Europe, but is a pick-up version of the VW GOL) - VW Passat 1.6/1.8 (Uhh... this one is that version that is very similar to the Scciroco) - VW Logus 1.8 (This is the VW GOL that was selled on Mexico, i guess.) And many FORD cars use this engine too (if you search for AUTOLATINA you'll understand why, but is basically a friendship between VW and FORD): - FORD Verona 1.6/1.8 - FORD Escort 1.8 (I guess, not sure now) OHH, i almost forgot, WE HAVE A LOT OF PERFORMANCE PARTS FOR THIS ENGINE ON BRAZIL. It's só easy to find pistons or connecting rods or anything to increase performance, we have a joke for it too: If you go to backery to buy some bread, the change will be some pistons and rods for AP. Some of these uses EFI or Multi Point Injection (or whatever this is called) too and exist three versions of heads: 8v, 16v and 20v. I think this is all useful information that i got for anyone that still have this engines out of the Brazil. I'll help anyone that want some help for something...
Can’t wait to see it driving!
Great video I cannot wait for the first start
you have no idea how long i've been waiting for a new upload, dont leave us hanging man stay strong
Awesome brother. Love this video❤

Nice work man !
100k soon bro awesome video😁 Respect from Serbia❤
For the gearbox you could have used a Golf 3 GTI box such as the CHE, this has the 2mm larger 24mm 28 spline input shaft and would match your engines character better than a 4S, although I often use a taller fifth gear for cars being predominantly used on the motorway, making the CHE a 4+E. Modifying it to work in a Golf 1 is quite easy and you could maintain the 100 output shafts by using the 84 onwards Golf 1 platform (Scirocco/Cabrio) driveshafts and hub carriers. These parts are a lot stronger as I found with my own 2L Golf 1 (DX block with 3A internals) it was too much for the 7G box and 90mm driveshafts.
Well i geuss its first time i ever comment on KZread, but your channel seems worth it. I've been watching videos of yours for a last year and didn't subscribe.. i thought why? But the answer is , your channel one of the good ones , no sponsors basically or annoying ads in video , just good guy working on cars that i love too. Amazing work and hopefully it's gonna keep that way. Subscribed and like on every video from now on!
You are te man!!!Great job,congratulations.
Good luck in the future and all the best..
Lower brace, 256mm discs&Girling 54 callipers, 11” servo&22mm master cylinder, sticky 195/50r14s and you’re ready to go!
Oh you cheeky evil bastard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cutting off the last scene right before the engine starts. now we have to wait who knows how long to hear that beauty you built. :)
You make this look so easy! The only things I've attempted are an oil pan change and coolant hoses! 🤣 Great content and worth the wait! 👍
It's been a long time since the last video. But again it was so worth waiting :)
The car is coming out great!
I like them shinny tubes
Beautiful Golf MK1 👍
Looks Great!!!
I saw the upload notification at work and i am glad that i am home now :P
I love it man I love your work ❤️ 💕 💙
So great work
Heel goeie video ben benieuwd naar de volgende 👌💪
Nice build man!
Nice work! With the increased power, you must install a lower brace bar. Mk1's are known to be weak in that point ever as stock units. Also if I were you, I will consider to install powerflex bushings on the control arms to have a more consistent steering
Onwijs mooie video ditmaal !
You done the engine swipe I always want in my ex rabbit mk1. I'm happy to sexe the process to do it
awsome awsome awsoem!!!! awwwssuuuum!!!! in in the middle of turboing mine.
Love this so much memories❤
Nice! I have a mk2 16v (the one in my prof. Pic.) and I will do the same! Rebuilt the engine and install carburetors!
Good posting looking forward to your next one :-)
Dude! That is awesome. I hope someday will have time and courage and make my car (golf7) as you do.
“Next, I am completely taking apart my vehicle!” LOL This was awesome - loved it!!!
Yes there it is!! Finally😍💪🏼
It looks fire 🔥
This guy is super intelligent .
Brings me back to my Scirocco days.
i'm getting goosebumps just seeing it come together😭
You're a tease....engine looks great. Well done, nice job.
You did a goodjob!
Wow, that engine looks smoking hot. Like it a lot.
Thanks Pro nice video
Yesssss finally part 3
Good job! I want to continue!
That looks awesome
been waiting
A great video and an impressive job. Well done 'MacGyver' another complex problem solved with a few rubber pipes. :-)
Nice Job! I hope next video soon!
Amazing machine
In the uk austin montego & maestro gearboxes were used to get longer gears & there were lots in scrapyards
Esta quedando hermoso ese mk1 😍😍🇲🇽✌️
Nice one Memphis 👍 with that engine/gearbox combo you should hit 100kph in 2nd and have a pretty quick mk1 golf 👌
GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT BECAUSE IT JUST TOOOO SWEET love the video it's to bad these are to hard to find in the states this was my favorite car we called the VW rabbits I've been hunting for one but it's looking like I need to cross the pond to get one but for now your will due hats off on the build
Looks classy
Nearly 100k subscribers Memphis 😉👍
Nice setup... I'm running a high compression "Frankenstein" conversion in my MK1. Running a worked 2Lt Uflow head (with all the trimmings) with 288 Estas cam and vernier on a 1.8ish short block. Won't give away too much regarding the innards of my block but engine is built to run mix if needed but I'm running pump only for now. For now I'm still using MP9 but throttles are on the cards. Habe standalone management, 4-2-1 branch with 50mil stainless exhaust and 1 back box.
That gearbox came like that off a junkyard? Holy shit that thing looks brand new
Ziet er knap uit. And nice video BTW.
Love it
Memphis, love your videos. Have a little sugestion, check if it's better to mount radiator on some kind of anti vibration mounts because mk1 is not a citroen. I had my radiator leaking because of hard suspension years ago. :)
