In todays video I am going to be covering off the costs of living with a VW Golf GTI and more specifically the Golf GTI Mk6. I have owned the car fro around 5 years now, the car has been exceptional reliable but today i took the car to the garage for a routine annual service and other than the extra bit of work I wanted doing the car threw a couple of surprises. I always wanted my channel to give the true ownership costs of running a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk6 and today I wanted to update everyone on what it is like to run one of these old 2010 plate Golf GTI and again if I would recommend owning one.
As always in this video i am going to be as honest as I can about what I have spent, what you would expect to find when running a 2010 Golf GTI and all the little surprises you get with these cars. I'm actually considering buying a 2013 GTI. I know buying a GTI might not be the smart choice, but I kinda want one.

2013 is a better year for the mk6 the 2012 sucks (I have a 2012)

Update, I did buy a 2013 GTI Wolfburg limited edition and I LOVE the car. and yes, I did have to change the water pump
Man your video keeps making me wanna just get the Mk6 now the maintainace dont look to bad, But tons of people just told me to saved up a little more to get the mk7 instead.

The MK6 has just been great for us. The MK7 was a lot more when I was looking, not far off double! Not sure what the difference is now.
Not a massive bill as you will get another few years out of it..golf gtis if you look after them they will look after you

True! Yeah it’s not too bad. Lot of people I spoke to were surprised, prompting me to make the video. Love the car, golf GTIs are incredible. Thanks for the comment :)
My 2019 Polo gti just had its 40k service this included all the filters oils ect while it was there i had the plugs and brake fluid done and the all important DSG service oh and the rear calipers cleaned up and that was £800😮

Nice! Amazing how much it costs now to do what is essentially basic stuff.
i have 2009 mk6 it used 1l of oil on 500km but i changed piston rings it still use some oil but its normal for 2.0turbo my gti has 240 000km and i love it didnt have bigger problems then that oil consumption, great car however

Yeah they are known to use a little oil, ours won’t make it to a full year without a top up.
Have you changed the timing chain tensioner? It is a known to fail on this car especially the early models of the mk6

Sure have. When I got the car at 38k I just did the tensioner. I was too scared to leave it 🤣

I got my chain and tensioner changed at 110,000 miles there. Great car I love it.
As said. Not a massive bill for what you have had done. If it was done in a main dealer you could have nearly doubled that cost.

Easily. Main dealers as good as the coffee and probably service is. I’d rather pay a good indie.
