Well.. I will say it. Been on HD my whole life. I’m in my mid 50’s now. I’m on a 2020 Roadglide (114). This is where I willl me till I’m gone .. but I rented a 2021 Goldwing (the one with no rear top box)… I was in the southwest desert for 11 days. Yeah, the best motorcycle I’ve ever ridden in my life . Holly sh!t. I’ve always had respect for Honda. It’s what us old HD guys do. But holy shit. Pure linear power. So smooth.. so comfy. So much power. I can’t bulshit you.. i have a hard time thinking of what the ‘wing can’t do. Maybe get you into trouble ?? Seriously .. hats off to Honda. What am amazing machine .

I have a ktm super duke gt, a 2022 Indian Super cheif and a 2021 goldwing. I'm 47 and have had a 1200 sportster along with sport touring bikes and sport bikes. For just simply riding long rides and handling. I give it to my goldwing hands down. It's a real amazing bike.

I always wanted a Harley since I was a kid. Finally bought a new 2017 Road Glide Ultra. I was in love! Rode it to Key West, Yellowstone, Arkansas, Tail, Sturgis... Fantastic bike. 48k in four years. Never considered Goldwing before... friend of mine convinced me to try one. First test ride was short, and I thought it was ok, but just didn't feel right to me. A couple months later, the curiosity got to me and I test rode another one for an hour. Fell in love with it! I ended up buying a 2021 Tour DCT. put 16k miles on it the first 8 months. It just.... Rocks. I will admit, I felt like a cool kid arriving places on my Harley... Now I feel like I have a secret, and don't mind being the odd duck every where I go. Because getting there on the Wing was more enjoyable than on any other bike I've had so far. But in the end, I get more comments and conversation because of this Goldwing than I did with my Harley. Ultimately, motorcycles are for our personal enjoyment. They aren't for other people's pleasure. Get what you want, and ride the piss out of it. If when you get where you're going, you get off the bike, and walk away, you don't look back at it and smile.... You probably haven't found the right one yet. Keep searching... You'll get there. Enjoy the journey!

I am a 55 year old rider, I practice at the start of EVERY season , Cones, emergency stops, I DO IN FACT have Jerry’s DVD’s and books and Yes they helped a bunch. I rode a Harley for many years and like a gentleman below I was struggling with speed on a hill with my full dress and my tiny 125 lb wife, I test rode a Goldwing and that puppy has power when you need it. I now own both , My Harley is my local bike and the Goldwing is my long distance bike. Both amazing motorcycles, I am NOT a prude when it comes to bikes. I enjoy them all , I am a Marine Vet Don’t you dare question my love for this country. They just don’t make bikes like they used to.

Since I began riding in 1985, nothing has even come close to the power and smoothness of my Gold Wing. Six cylinders of pure power that take my wife and I anywhere without hesitation and plenty of leftover power in every circumstance. Nothing beats it in my humble estimation. P.S. Hey, Jerry. I bought all of your videos years ago and it's an annual ritual for me to sit down and watch them all back to back for refeshers! Donna is a lot cuter than you are, but I watch you nonetheless. I love my 2023 Goldwing. It really fast and handles really good. So dependable.

I like both. But once I switched to my Wing, I don’t see myself ever going back to a new HD. Love the handling in the twisties. Oh the lean is so nice. Sport mode never fails to put a smile on my face. But I’m keeping my Road King too lol!

I personally view Harley’s as motomotive and Goldwings as automotive in their respective orientation. I have owned 10 Harleys and currently ride a 2020 SGS. Thanks for all of your great videos. I have had your DVD’s for many years.

Good video. I presently own a 2019 Goldwing Tour DCT. Prior, I owned a 2018 Ultra Limited. I can't see ever going back to HD. Although, I still think the Harleys are a much nicer looking bike, along with being well put together, their paint is also better than the Goldwing, not to mention the materials they are made from seem superior. The Goldwing in my opinion is a bit more enjoyable to ride. The power delivery, handling is fantastic. Although, from my perspective it has allowed me to be a bit riskier on the road when riding, which isn't a good thing. I realized last year I was taking too many stupid chances, whereas, the bike handles much better than my riding abilities allow, not that I am a beginner, I do practice parking lot maneuvers and emergency handling, but, the power of the bike can get you into trouble if you don't respect it (this can be said for any motorcycle, good friend once said, the day you think you can handle that bike, that you are the best, sell it, or it will kill you, never lose respect for it). I think what made me switch to the Goldwing was trip to South Dakota, when I hit the hills the Ultra would not keep at the speed limit (80mph), struggled from the weight and power of a completely stock engine and computer setup, my buddie walked away on his Goldwing. They are both fantastic bikes, ride what you love, for that reason, I still own my 2006 Road King for those rides where I just want to cruise.

@@ShutterUp the Goldwing is nice, can’t speak to the passenger seat for comfort. I can say that if the comfort of the rider seat is any indication, you will need to have the seat worked on. I sent mine to Texas to Wingsoft Bikesolutions. One of the best decisions every. Extremely comfortable! lol ther than that the new GW has more room on the back. They redesigned it a bit for 2021.

I've owned two Road Glides but currently own a 2018 Goldwing. All you need do is ride both bikes back to back on the exact same roads & conditions to see it plainly, which is what I did and I was stunned at how much better the Wing was, which is why I traded in for the Wing. The Wing just feels more stable, smoother, and planted in the turns where I find Harleys wallow & rattle a bit more by comparison, feeling looser and less sure footed. I find the stock Wing suspension and geometry is just better than stock HD suspension. Now in normal speed touring the difference really doesn't matter much, both are more than capable, but if pushing the envelope in the twisties then the Wing wins out IMHO.

Moto Mengy........... I'm with you on all points. I've owned 6 Harley's ( 4 Road Glides and 2 Fat Boys but now I'm on my 3rd GW Aspencade. My first Goldwing was a GL 1200 A, second was a GL 1500 A and now I ride a SAWEEEET 2001 GL 1800 A with the ABS System and is SOOOooo Smoooooth and Comfortable it is insane. I love that HARLEY SOUND but can't get that Stable and Controlled seat in the pants feeling I get on any Goldwing. I think JERRY let his bias lead here for the Harley's of taking any edge in ANY Department other than that seat of the pants Mechanical FEELING. Any Tank slapping Cornering, Acceleration and passing just always go to the GW line...comparing year to year the Harley always seems it has some catching up to do. As far as comfort and distance abilities in one day of riding I have to go with my GW 100%. As far as road feel the Harley just feels like it is always on edge and always searching but just can't find that grip. Over the years all my Harley's were outfitted with SO MANY different tires always trying to find that grip that would give me confidence and comfortable for any road condition. As far as my GW's, they mostly like the SHINKO 777 a little better than the other name brands. SHINKO just seem a better fit "FOR ME and My Riding Style". Maybe it is just the Rake or Geometry of the Goldwings...I really don't know but I never found any combination of tire to get the same confidence on any of the Harley's I owned. When I'm touring I don't like having to get after it most of the time...however, there are times I get that need for some hair raising riding and my GW always gives that to me in a controlled attitude....more so than ANY of my Harley's by leaps and bounds. I'm mostly a Lone Wolf and at times just jump on go....sometimes up to 1,200 miles in a day even ONCE as much as 1,700. I ride to ride. When I decide to Ride I just want to RIDE, not stop at every pull out or road side cafe...So I don't ride with others very often. I just don't remember any Mileages on my Harley's but the least I've gotten on my GW's was 34mpg and that was at sustained 90mph riding with some Harley Group trying to shame or shake me....It was fun but not really my normal or overall riding style. Some are going to call me biased toward the Goldwing but they need to remember I've owned more Harley's over my lifetime so in reality I should give them the nod but I just can't do it after riding both for years. There is ONE other aspect of the two.....RELIABILITY. When I take off on a Ride I don't want to worry if I'm going to break down and my Goldwings, unlike all my Harley's, have never stranded me. I've had to be trailered into town more than I like to admit when on a Harley but never even so mush as had to change a Spark Plug on any of my Goldwings. I'll take that peace of mind reliability over any other the other pluses every day of the year.

I just picked up my first Harley, a 98 Electra glide classic with a carbureted evo it has 39k miles on it and it’s got a sidecar, a 79 vetter terraplane that I haul my dog around in. I get what you mean when you talk about the mechanical feel of the Harley. I wanted a carbed evo for the reliability and the sound. My other ride is a 98 Valkyrie tourer that I’ve had for 7 or 8 years, great bike and noticeably different than the Electra glide and I really enjoy them both. I just wish that Valkyrie was fuel efficient like the Harley, I think 32 mpg is the best I’ve ever done with it but it is a blast!

No HD can compare to the Goldwing when it comes to handling, comfort just damn smooth.

You could believe that if you care to, but H.D. sells a thousand Harley touring bikes to every Goldwing sold. Prior to the covid shortages, you could find new 2018 Wings sitting in showrooms across the U.S. 3 year old new Goldwings gathering dust. You would never find 3 year old H.D. touring bikes languishing in showrooms gathering dust. The point? Goldwings are so good, only a tiny minority of riders will buy one. Similar to the Yamaha Venture, (said to be a fantastic touring bike, yet dealers can't give them away. I've owned 3 Wings thru the years. They were once superior to H.D. touring bikes but that changed in about 2014. Harleys just keep getting better and they are obviously more in tune with what buyers want in a heavyweight touring motorcycle.

@@motorman857 HD is a fad that has lasted for many decades. I started with a Shovel Head, Evo, twin cam and ride a 2021 Tri Glide Ultra. You don't have to explain to me about HD. But Honda makes a very good machine and will last many years past a HD. It is all about fad and who's who. I am not a rookie here. Goldwing will out run any HD off the show floor and out handle. Try following a Goldwing in the mountains with any HD. You know the answer. Yes, I love my HD and will always own one. But If ai had the money to spare, I would own the Honda also.

Personally I think the two bikes in the class they're in are like the Cadillac of their brand. Ride what you like and so will everyone else.I had an 05 roading classic that was lowered by the previous owner. As a result it had less lean angle the originally intended. I often scraped my boot tips on turns because of the way my feet naturally position. I've since owned a 2019 RGS and traded late 2020 for a RGS commemorative. Of course I had more lean angle on both bikes not to mention better braking and control with both RGs . I also got a couple other pluses like the RDRS system.

Great vid Jerry. I checked out a gold wing a couple years ago. Beautiful bike, well balanced very comfortable, but it just isn’t a Harley. Don’t know what it is about the Harley touring bikes. Being able to see the entire engine, the sound, the feel, the history. I guess I’m just a Harley guy. No knock on Honda. Like my dad use to say, “to each his own”.

I have owned one Honda. All the rest were Harleys. My 2017 street glade is the most enjoyable and fun motor cycle I have ever owned.

Jerry i have a 21 street glide special that I have in shop now for some custom work including a fat tire kit for the front. What’s your take on the handling of this bike once I get that fat tire kit? Will basically be same tire as on rear.

Was waiting for the twisty road? I’ve had both and they are completely different but agree with your analysis.

Correct me if I am wrong. You buy a Harley and suffer because it’s American made and MC’s have to ride them. But come on it’s antiquated versus a golden wing or BMW. I will even venture that the BMW GS is more comfortable than a Road Glide. No offense

They are both great touring bikes and I guess it's really user preference. I think both are cool bikes and think the Gold Wing has definitely come along way in the last few years with major improvements. Great review Jerry 👍.

Hi all, love the comments and debate. Especially love what Jerry does for the international riding community. But let's not forget one important piece. Honda's and Harley's have one thing in common that will never change: A rider! No matter how great the bike is built the rider is the one who uses it to it's potential or does not. I ride with many different riders on many different bikes but we all have to ride the bike like a pro. We do so that we can be as safe as possible on the road and be able to debate the merits of our bikes when we end the ride and sit down for a beer.

Jerry, thanks for another honest, unbiased video. I generally prefer the technically superior Hondas, but NOBODY nails the ergonomics like Harley. When I sit on any Harley, everything is exactly where it should be. Since I'm six feet tall, a long Goldwing ride cramps my knees; it fits someone that's 5-8 or 5-10 much better. Ride what works for you. I'll respect you as a rider, whatever you ride.

Just to add another 2 cents worth-I also prefer a more “mechanical” feel to my motorcycle. I’m going a step farther to my preference for my Twin Cam 2013 Road Glide Ultra rather than the smoother M8 bikes. I’ve upgraded suspension at both ends to improve on the old “soft but harsh” suspension of old, and put in engine mods for vastly improved torque and power. No way is this a high performance cornering machine, but ride and performance meet my needs very well. Thanks Motorman, for the comparison between the Harley and Gold Wing. It’s all interesting!

Brian Dugle. I have owned the GL, a Glide with the Twin Cam (96" in this case) and a M8 114. Like you, I prefer the mechanical feel and sound of the Twin Cam the most, though you gotta love the monster torque of the 114.

@@dougfielding8215 My 103 doesn’t compare to a 114, but it hits 100 lb-ft at the tire at 2500 and carries it to almost 5000 due to 222 cams in a stage 2. It works for me.

@@bdugle1 Plus it feels and sounds like a twin cam 2 valve per cylinder engine. That is to say it feels and sounds great. I own a M8 114 but you won't hear me put down the 103 twin cam. It's a great engine.

Hi Jerry, I agree with you on mostly everything you say in this comparison. I currently have a 2018 GW DCT Tour, 2013 Victory CCT, an 05 HD Electra Glide Ultra plus a few others. Based upon my and my brother’s experience, the Harley handles low speed maneuvers the best mostly due to its shorter wheelbase and excellent friction zone control. The Goldwing is the favorite of our wives while touring for it’s vibration free and comfortable seating. If you like wide open road hammering it will run all day at 3 digits without tiring you or the bike. The Victory is by far the most comfortable for the rider especially for the over 5’10” rider. You don’t need highway pegs at all with the massive floor boards that allow you to stretch out. You can also sell your second or third car as the Victory has enough storage space to make Walmart and Home Depot runs! The one negative thing for the Victory and the Harley is that the air cooled V-Twins are hot as hell in Florida! Thank you for your knowledge 😎👍

Goldwings are better made and better engineered. But if you are into image and sound, Harley wins. But be prepared to pay more for upkeep with the Harley as well.

The Revival is a BEAUTIFUL bike.

I really like the look of your bike and the electra glide seat would probably be comfortable for a tall guy. I own the 23 GW bagger and because the seat is high it is very comfortable for me. It also runs excellent and is enjoyable as a DCT. But that blue color you have would make me put two bikes in the barn!

Thanks Jerry great comparison. I've owned 2 Goldwing's and a 2000 Honda Valkyrie Interstate. I sold my 2008 Goldwing GL1800 2 years ago and kept my 1994 GL1500 because even though it's older, I think it rides better. As far as my 2000 Valkyrie, I still have it and I love it because it has that American cruiser look and improved Goldwing engine performance. With 6 carbs and a high performance cam it really get's up and goes. and it has pretty good slow speed handling as well. I would love to hear what your take on the Valkyrie is. I did test ride a couple of Harley's over the summer. I rode an Electra Glide Ultra and a Road King. I really liked them both and will probably replace the GL1500 with an Ultra at some point. I really don't care for the new Goldwing. Thanks again for the great video and keep them coming! 👍

Any year Valk is a stunning bike to me. I think they are gorgeous!

I have a 2021 roadglide limited. I've ridden all the Indians but never the goldwing. Or BMW. The roadglide is a very good handling bike in the twisties. Never ceases to amaze me. My son said it handled almost like his sport bike zx14. I wasn't sure with both 18" wheels, but the moco figured it out for sure.

@@DonaldLL825 great call. I tried a 22 Goldwing dct tour and my 2015 RG has a new owner. Handling and performance are in a different atmosphere. When it becomes more about the ride and less about being seen... it's not even close.

First and foremost, this guy can ride a mean bike and puts out great videos. I am 52 years old I’ve been riding (mostly Honda’s all my life) I presently own a 2918 Honda Goldwing. When I was young I could jump your garage with a CR500, try jumping over a hard hat with a Harley and you’ll see what a thrill it is. But if you’re a noob to riding, whatever you’re riding, get this guys “ride like a pro “video before you drop your damn bike already. When he said, Harley has a more “mechanical feel” this is because they shake like riding an angry bear, and if you asked me which I’m sure you didn’t but… this is why they need more maintenance than a Goldwing where you can balance a coin on the motor. I rode to New Hampshirite 3 years in a row to Laconia bike week and last year two Harley’s broke down and one crashed. The Goldwing has great balance to them where if coming to a stop slowly I at many times don’t have to put my feet down to stay upright where the center of gravity does obviously play a part. This is in part due to the engineering detail of putting the gas tank partially under the seat and not above your balls. The Goldwing is much smoother at riding especially with the new front suspension Honda developed. And with that boxer motor will most likely keep you moving much longer than the rattling Hardly Ablesons will. They lean better and I can easily stand up straight on my bike like a dirt bike even while cornering easily, where a Hardly rider can only shift in his seat. Styling goes to Honda also as the design enhancements Honda has made over the years has progressed light years above the 20 year old “new Hardly’s” look like, I mean they look like UFO’s compared to the Hardly Ablesons. Just saying, Goldwing’s are far superior to a Hardly and for the money that Hardly charges you get way more for your buck. Get yourself a Goldwing, and be more than happy with your purchase. Unless you like working on your bike more than you like riding it. As far as height goes and the need for highway pegs, I agree and I bought gold strike highway pegs and I can stretch out nicely. The seating on a Goldwing is a bit like riding a BMW where it leavers you with a slightly more aggressive posture while riding without the highway pegs but again, I can also stand on mine, try standing on your Hardly while cornering and you will become part of the landscape in front of you. The Hardly does have more room as far as storage capacity. Goldwings come standard with reverse, something to look for the next time you see a street glide struggling, duck walking his 750 pound cast iron piece. Goldwing also come standard with fully electric adjustable windscreen for those hot days or those cold nights and the ferring offers more rain guard than the Hardly where I can ride in the rain and come out dry as a popcorn fart, not so much on a Hardly Ableson. Try sitting on a Hardly and take it off the kickstand and feel the weight feel difference as the center of gravity is 12 feet off the pavement on a Hardly Street Glide. The radio may be better on a Hardly also but the Goldwing doesn’t make all that” hey look at me noise” as a rattling Hardly does either, making it more pleasurable to listen to the radio. My moneys on those little slant eye’d mongols that didn’t fall asleep during engineering school. Meanwhile, Hardly is putting out the same bikes they slugged out 20 - 30 years ago. I know I was a bit mean to Hardly owners but ride what you like both are really cool.

It sounds to me like you haven't ridden a Harley touring bike in at least 23 years. Todays H.D. touring bikes are the state of the art in heavyweight cruiser/touring motorcycles. They are as smooth as a modern V-twin can possibly be. No vibration reaches the rider or the passenger. You like Goldwings better? Good. Buy a Goldwing. What you don't get to do is claim H.D.'s vibrate and break down because that's B.S.. I've owned 3 Wings. An 01, an 03, and an 06. The 01 and 03 both had severe over heating problems and I believe the 06 had a cracked frame which had to be repaired under a recall. Anyone can check out the Goldwing forums and see that they are far from trouble free. In fact, There's no mechanical device I know of, that's trouble free. The odd thing is, prior to COVID, you could find plenty of 2 and 3 year old Goldwings brand new, collecting dust in the showrooms. You'd never find a new 2 OR 3 year old Harley sitting in any dealers.

@@motorman857 so, this is why your the professional and I’m just a rider, no I haven’t ridden a lot of new Hardly’s as I’m sure you have ridden a lot of both. And you are correct any mechanical device is going to need repair I used to be a mechanic and a supervisor at a machine shop. I am surprised you commented and glad you did. I greatly admire you and your input. But having said you WILL have to work on either bike, having a center stand is rather nice too as Golding cleverly comes standard with. I believe you when you say that “nowadays” Hardly’s don’t have the vibration they once did as they would shake themselves to pieces but saying that these vibrations don’t reach the rider does not mean they don’t reach the parts of the bike. As far as the cracked frame goes, have you seen the immense frame on the new Goldwings… and we’ve all seen all bikes with cracked frames, as you said “any mechanical device will need work.” I will not misbehave and disregard your input as you are a blessed man and an all around very knowledgeable man regarding bikes. I meant no illness to your comparison in either bike but in my opinion yes still my money is on the Honda… no harm no fowl sir. God bless you good sir. I don’t need to tell you to keep the shiny side up as you are like a giro-scope on a bike.

Love the videos Jerry and the knowledge gained from your tutorials but I gotta tell you that at 6'3" with a 34in inseam I have zero issues with my new wing and the foot pegs. If you have spent 35 years riding motorcycles with a "foot under rider" position it's normal and comfortable, the forward controls seem very odd and uncomfortable to me because I'm not accustomed to it. I really believe it's all what your used too, I have the Rivco foldout highway pegs and I rarely use them, certainly not for any length of time because the riding position with your feet out front is not natural to me. I've had this conversation with guys I work with who ride Harleys and they don't like my riding position and I don't like theirs, we're all going, "how do you ride like that?" Anyway, ride safe my friend and keep up the great work, we all hope Donna is doing well, take care.

I own both a Harley Electra Glide and a Honda GoldWing GL-1800. Mine are older models of both but I love them both for different reasons. I liken my old Boneshaker of a Harley to a 60’s - 70’s muscle car and my Wing to a sleek Jag. However I am seriously looking at the BMW R18 or the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster or T-120 as my next ride.

There are a lot better choices in cruiser touring bikes than the R18. The R18 is a big heavy clumsy bike with way too much vibration at highway speeds for a modern touring bike. The foot placement under the cylinders is just awful.

I chased a few sportbikes with passengers on my Ultra once. I won't do it again, however they were looking back like WTH. This bagger is keeping up with us! Until I got onto the frame alittle. Saved it and slowed down! They do have limits!!

If you mean maximum lean angle, 32 degrees.

Your Revival has the Ultra rear suspension, not the chopped rear suspension on the Street Glide. Because of this, the comparison is not a representative. I too have owned both and I agree, the Harley is more fun and has more character and personality. Believe it or not, the Gold wing wasn't as trouble free as my Electra Glide Classic (given the same high mileage). A. Gold Wing is still a solid choice and I like them, I just like Harleys more.

The Revival has the shorter rear shocks that come on the Street Glide, Road King Special. I should know, I own 2 of them.

Jerry, do you use brakes *only* when you stop while out and about like in this video? Seems like you aren't downshifting to stops. Just curious.

It's simple. Brake pads are a lot easier and cheaper to replace than a new clutch or clutch plate.

I do down shift. I just don't let the clutch back out with each down shift. No reason to do that.

Hey Jerry, I ride the 2008 GW and I found the suspension a little sloppy. The front suspension is very undersized for the 600lb weight. However, that radically changed when I added the "full monty" suspension pkg by Traxxiion Dynamics.($3k). Now the 975 lb wing just floats down the road, rides like it's on a rail, is nimble, and easier to handle at low and highway speeds. Research it and try to demo a Wing with the pkg and feel the difference.

That's one of the problems I had with My 2008 GL1500, and is the main reasons I got rid of it a couple of years ago. I never heard of the Traxxiion Dynamics suspension package, but probably wouldn't have spent the $3K if I had. 👍

Got a GL1500 in late 2020... if I do upgrade to a GL1800, I'll definitely upgrade to Traxxion suspension as recommended by my mechanic who has 30 years of experience working on Goldwings.

@@larryritchey8557 The rear hydraulic shock has its own issues. It would leak & had to set near 25 to reduce bottoming out. The Traxxion pkg sets your suspension as determined by your riding style, weight; if 1 up or two, and how often. I tow a trailer & those numbers were added to determine the suspension settings for a truly customized pkg.

I agree with your opinions, Jerry, not that you were asking but wanted to tell you I like the Harley feel as well. Frankly, I think I might be bored riding the wing. Anyway, I'm sure you're not familiar with the S6 here in San Diego but I'm just curious if it's all as twisty as the dragon?

I love my 2018 DCT Wing but the Harley is defiantly better in the slow speed handling. Different bikes for different uses.

I disagree. The Goldwing is much better at both slow and fast speeds.

While I appreciate the information and opinion in this video, it is a case of apples to oranges. Also, while Jerry gave references to some experience on the GW, the entire video was from the perspective of the SG. A classic bagger like the SG being compared to the luxury tourer of the GW is like comparing a Cessna to a Lear. Now, if the comparison were of the GW to the Ultra Limited, I think a more direct comparison to weight and geometry could be made. I've owned and rode every type of bike and my last 2 HD's were good bikes (Fatboy and RG Ultra), and I've owned a GW as well. My last few bikes have been Indians which are awesome bikes too. As I live in FL too, lean angle doesn't mean a whole lot here until you get into the mountains and twisties...just returned from a trip to the Smokies. My Indian has the same lean angle as the HD's...but I really would have loved a few more degrees to play with on those roads. My take away from this video is that the handling and performance goes to the GW, but if you want the aesthetics of a classic American bike, then you should ride the SG. In a perfect world, we would all have the perfect bike for the type of riding and experience we want on any given day. Enjoy your bike and enjoy the ride.

I’ve owned many motorcycles. I’ve owned Yamaha, Kawasaki, Harley, Victory and Honda. My wife and I rent Harleys when we are out traveling a lot of times too. I now own a Yamaha fz09 and a 2018 Gold Wing tour DCT. I never was interested in a Gold Wing and never rode one until I rode the 2018 DCT. When we went on the test ride we were both sold. We bought it that day… so the Wing I own is the only Wing I’ve ever rode. I like all motorcycles, but I will say this Wing is awesome. It’s a blast on the back roads and on the highway. Fun riding it in manual mode in the twisties.

I'll have to say.... My F6B(Goldwing Lite) is really hard to keep up with compared to other American Bagger/Touring bikes.... It cuts in to corners hand holds lines like a Sport Touring bike.... All day Torque.....can take off in OD if I had too. When the Torque curve finally starts to tapper off the Horsepower shoots up to redline! Spins up very fast. Of a group of about 30 assorted HDs in my Group.... The F6Bs regin is supreme.

F6b is just a wing without the tour pack. It's only the esthetic of a bagger that different but the handling, torque, lean angle, etc are exactly the same (maybe no reverse). Is there anything else different (better) on the F6B?

It's an extremely nimble and well planted in the corners. Let my buddies on built RGS, Chieftain, SGS bike swap and they were all confused and impressed how quick they can throw it around and how it sticks to corners, enticing you to drive it harder and harder through the apex.

my SGS is a joy to ride. i live in New Hampshire and we have , arguably some of the best roads in the country to ride on. From scenic cow pastures to wooded remote roads that you can just go for miles. Would choose the SGS over the honda anyday Thanks for the vid

Nunya Biznez..................I'm fortunate enough to live in Idaho and I make it a point to make at least ONE of my Rides to Montana every year. There is a section I never by-pass hat is 140 miles of what we all lovingly and enthusiastically call the "TWISTIES". That is a road that CAN and WILL fill the need. I must agree with you that a short 9 miles is nothing more than an appetizer in relation to my favorite section of Highway. I've ridden that 140 miles on Both my recent Harley and my present Goldwing and I must admit my Goldwing leaves me less tired after the section of road. At my age, 70yrs old being able to ride farther is a great determining factor because I love to RIDE. I guess that verbiage of "Live to Ride, Ride to Live" has all alone actually fits me. The Goldwing allows me to ride much much farther and actually cheaper than all the previous 6 Harley's I've owned. I guess it all comes down to priorities and comfort for each of us to decide on. I've chosen and been very happy with switching over the the Honda.............When I'm out on the road I don't see any animosity or negative attitude from ANYONE, EVER, no matter what they're riding........It's ALL IN THE RIDE and NOT what you ride anyway. I think they are both PERFECT MACHINES and EQUAL to each other.kinda like Ford & Chevy without any of the nastiness....Just my layman's opinion. Keep the Dirty Side Down!

I just recently turned 50 years old and have been back in my home state of Florida for the last 14 years. I've always rode and loved Japanese bikes. I got my first Harley ( 2009 Electra Glide Classic ) in December of 2019 and I am loving it so far ( I do sometimes miss the two Vmaxes I had). Although we don't have the mountains roads, we're blessed here with year-round riding weather! Ride safe!!

Why did i buy the Harley Davidson Road Glide Ultra over all those better engineered, faster , more reliable, bikes . The best solution for this issue you should be have the both bikes in the garage and use one in the cold weather. It’s definitely Harley Davidson and use the Goldwing in the hot weather because you’re not feeling any heat coming from engine

I'd choose the one that I felt would spend less time in the service department

The first time I rode a wing, I was pleasantly surprised at how fast that big azz bike was.

I do like the character of the Harley better than the Goldwing’s. Another thing I like about Harley is the many different options you have. There are 14 options of motorcycles in the Grand Touring group. There are only 2 options of Goldwings. Then, you get lots of choices in colors for Harley compared with like 2 colors for Goldwings. Then, you have TONS of aftermarket items you can add to your bike compared to very few for the Goldwing. It is much easier to have a bike suited for the individual with Harley rather than a “one size fits all” approach like Honda does.

I own a gl1500, the friction zone is very very slim so because there's so much torque I end up not using the friction zone in most situations. I may try bleeding the clutch to see if it helps but if not I'll just have to adapt.

I take no stock in what you say.

The Goldwing has a boxer engine that lowers the center of gravity. I'm surprised that more manufacturers don't use the boxer engine because I think that is the most ideal type of engine for motorcycles. All the police agencies in San Diego County use the BMW 1200RT that has the boxer and they love it. Currently the CHP uses Harleys but I've been informed that they're switching to the 1200RT.

@@motorman857 I re-read what I wrote and I meant it in jest. My long-time friends and I engage in friendly smack talk over different bike brands. I tell them their Harleys sound like a lawn mower, and they tell me my K1600, and now my GW sounds like a sewing machine. Then we take off on a 5-day bike trip and have a great time. Anyway, that's what I had in mind in my previous comment. On the Harley sound, nobody can copy it because they would get sued by Harley if they tried. Harley secured a patent on their 45 deg v-twin configuration that produces the sound.

Oddly, pre COVID there were 3 year old Goldwings brand new, collecting dust in showrooms across America and that situation is coming back as I write this.

If you want to ride a two wheeled car buy a Gold Wing but if you want to ride a motorcycle well I'd buy the Road King. Nice video, cheers.

As a younger guy who came from sportbikes, the GL1800 is far better. To each their own.

Call me a snob if it makes you feel right. I prefer Harley Davidson. I like the way they feel. I like the way they look. I like the sound of the vtwin 45* engine. I have had most of the different manufacturers if bikes machines. Even with the woes of HD I just love riding them.

From a quality engineering stand point, I would take Honda over Polaris any day. Honda has much more stricter quality requirements versus Harley. Honda requires many more critical dimensions to be met during in process production. The Harley parts I have worked with have much less critical dimensions to be met in process (stating the facts that I have worked with). Does it make Harley components an inferior product versus Honda when it comes from a quality stand point? You be the judge based upon the part inspection data!

Actually, it's the exact opposite. Any H.D. touring bike will run circles around a Goldwing. I've owned 3 Wings thru the years. They are great bikes but they have no soul. Anytime you'd care to show me how well a Wing handles, just come to my class free of charge. It will be on youtube though so keep that in mind.

Been riding 2003 Goldwing for years. Tried Harley, but didn't like the noise or vibration, especially while idling. You can't go wrong with either, just watch these videos and put some time on the road. Enjoy!

If you want the fastest,best handling touring bike you go with the BMW K1600 gtl or grand america. Those are sport bikes in touring bike clothes. Watch Zak Courts and Ari Henning take a grand America and a goldwing around Laguna Seca raceway and the bmw smoked the Honda. Having said that for a touring bike my personal preference would be an Ultra Limited or an Indian Roadmaster. For touring I'm more concerned about comfort and convenience than anything else.

Jerry, I own a 21 road glide special and a 21 GW DCT tour. Honestly the Honda shifts faster and handles better than the RG. Both bikes offer different rides. The Harley is fun to ride, the GW is kinda like a vespa on steroids. Its like having 2 girlfriends. You like them both, but each has it's own appeal. The wife prefers the Harley on local runs and the Honda on the cross country. As far as the controls, the Harley wins over any Japanese bike. Just to change the air filter on the Honda is a 2 hour job.

It' probably just me, but I prefer the Goldwing because the Cruiser posture hurts my tail bone! I gotta be sitting up like I'm perched on a barstool for long rides, otherwise my tail bone starts to buurrrn!

Jerry BMW K1600B vs. GoldWing??

I own a 2019 HD Ultra and a 2018 Goldwing. The Harley has a better riding position and a more planted solid feel, especially around semis or in a wind due to its extra weight. But if I was on a track or the dragon tail I'd rather be on the Honda GW no doubt. The thing I dislike the most about the goldwing is all the cheap plastic and the factory windshields have terrible optics. But they are super reliable bikes. I love them both but if I'm going on a long ride I feel better sitting in the saddle of the Utra.

Well, we agree :) ... the Goldwing is better high speed handling bike... though I'd have to give the nod to the Harley on "low speed" maneuvering.. Motor Officer cone course type stuff..

I had a wing. The bike is so quiet and smooth it can literally put you to sleep. I personally know of 3 cases, one was me.

And by the way, l happen to like Harleys

I like Goldwings, but I just can't tear myself away from my Harleys. Harley is The Way.

So in a nutshell what you are saying is. If you want the better motorcycle. Get the Goldwing. If you want to feel cool while riding a motorcycle. Get the Harley. That isn't anything new. You forgot to mention that the Goldwing has 4 ride modes. And neglected to point out which one you were in when you experienced the hard ride. No Harley other than the new Sportster S or the Pan Am has those features. I've owned many of both. And still do. The Goldwing is superior in every way. But I do feel COOLER on the Harley. It is an apples to oranges approach to do the same task.

Jerry if people really want to buy a great handling bike; they should buy a Victory while they are still available.

I own a 2012 Victory Xc and a 2022 DCT. the Goldwing out handles the Victory and has walking forward/reverse. The Goldwing has a lower lower lean angle for sure.

Why test the Honda Goldwing vs the Harley Street Glide ??? Why not the Harley Roadglide ??? A much more comparable test. (Fixed Faring) I have owned multiples of both. If you are just jumping on an interstate highway and going coast to coast you probably go with the Honda. If you are driving shorter distances and maybe going to Datona Bike Week or in slower traffic I would go with the Harley every time!!! As far as fun to ride. Very slight edge to Harley. As far as cost, the edge used to go to Goldwing. Not so much anymore. As far as a taller person the Harley is a bit less cramped. One last thought. Use the newest version of both bikes as a couple of years can make a world of difference.

Id love you to do some reviews on 2021 indian motorbikes, as you seem to always talk about Harleys (no offence)... Indian bikes are the most beautiful bikes to ride and extremely nimble, especially the vintages.

I've owned 2 Wings, a 2001 and a 2006 and I've ridden a 2018 manual and a 2020 DCT. All were fine motorcycles. I happen to like the classic American style of H.D. touring bikes as well as the sound and character of a big V-twin, better than the Goldwing. If that's what you consider bias, well, that's your opinion. In addition, since H.D. sells a thousand touring bikes for every Wing, I'm not alone in my opinion.
