"The train is a blast from beginning to end." It's literally a blast at the end.

I rented this game once right when it came out, then bought a copy immediately afterward. The game was really immersive. At the time, realistic contemporary settings were extremely rare, and hard to pull off in action games. I had never seen anything like this before at the time. A good gaming PC was already a lot more powerful at the time (and also way, way, way more expensive), but PC shooters were actually less sophisticated in terms of gameplay/ level design, as well as in terms of animation. This game was definitely ahead of its time, and very influential.

I remember being blown away with the realism at the time. It was easily 2-3 years ahead of its time as far as gameplay mechanics.

Christmas 1998 I was 4 yrs old, got the N64 with goldeneye. I haven’t played a video game in forever. Thank god my gf has a switch and heard me talk about this game before. She just handed it to me without saying anything. I got chills when i saw what it was and heard that iconic theme

Bunker 2 was my favorite. The lack of weapons and ammo at the beginning, the non-linear nature of the level, the throwing knives for stealth, and the infinitely respawning guards in some parts of the level, and if you want extra challenge: get caught by the cameras. This leads to tons of different ways to replay the level, even with cheats. Frigate is also this way, but not quite as good. Worst level: Statue Park. We got stuck on this level as kids for months because we couldn't figure out what to do.

Bunker 2 was great. It probably could have made my top 5 competing with bunker 1. Agreed on Statue, lol, i definitely got lost there as a kid as well. Others at the bottom for me are Surface 2 and Streets.

@@CitizenCage Going with the non-linear, low ammo start, another one I liked was Archives. Not quite as good as Bunker 2, or Frigate, but still fun. I found Streets and Surface 2 to be kind of average. Not great, not terrible. Streets gives you the option to play with or without the tank, and without is more enjoyable. My 2 honorable mentions for worst are Runway and Control. Runway is too short and too easy; you can easily beat it under 30 seconds on Agent. Control because of the protect Natalya part. It comes late in the level, requires too much trial and error for new players, and leads to alot of aborts when you fail.

If you play cradle with slow motion cheat on. Then end cutscene where you jump to the helicopter, it takes off just as you reach to it because you were too slow😂

Absolutely loved this video. I cannot disagree with anything you mention in it. This game was THE GAME of my childhood and the memories I have of it playing with friends and family will stay with me forever. Without Goldeneye 64 many games today would not be the same… it set the benchmark for others to try and surpass.

Ah, yes. The days of invisible walls, and hidden closets behind walls that should otherwise clip… When you would fire a rocket at the bottom of a ladder and the explosion would appear at the top. When you would fire a rocket directly up in the air and it would run out of fuel, coming crashing down upon you…

I was around 25 in 1988, lol my parents were kicking me out and I wanted a game system. I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllly wanted an N64 and goldeneye, but my tech friend ended up talking me into the PS with titles like Tomb raider, jet moto, resident evil and gran turismo. Eventually I bought a PC and HL1 on a dialup modem.

I hadn’t played much of Goldeneye prior to the Xbox release but damn even having not played it as a kid I can see why this thing was the sh*t back in the day

@@GeekRobotYT You’ll get it! It’s all about firing that KF7 at the right moments. Yeah that was another really fun aspect of the game that was ahead of it’s time - the speed running. After two days I’ve beat all levels on every difficulty and only need 3 more achievements - Statue, Caverns, and Control. But I played the crap out of it as a kid so it’s all coming back.

If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll see how well they actually filled-in Facility’s missing pieces. The movie only shows sections of the facility. Rare connected the areas really well. GoldenEye 007 is a straight up rom hack release - very much at the opposite end to a remaster. A remaster is a complete graphical and feature list upgrade. For example Perfect Dark on Xbox 360 on XBLA and The Last of Us on PS5.

Intro: "I was a good 10 years too young for this game". On the real I think this game was the first to have achievements though as you said it was speed running missions on certain difficulties

My top 5: 1. Facility. 2. Control. 3. Dam (on the higher difficulty levels.) 4. Frigate. 5. Bunker 1. Honorable mentions: Bunker 2, Surface 1, Silo and Archives. Worst missions: Statue, Depot, Surface 2 and Jungle.

First time I played goldeneye was on the re release that happened liek now but I still feel nostalgia from banjo kazooie as i played it in the Xbox 360 days and Xbox one days too (btw I was still using 360 lol such a good console it was)

Train is unfair on so many levels on 00 Agent. I would do everything it wants and somehow fail it. For some reason, I have 5 seconds when everything is done to get off the train. So many tries and did get it done. Aztec is another level that you can't win without doing it over and over again until you finish it. I'm still on Secret Agent and have it patted down. I just have to get lucky. Sidenote; I have an N64 and own the game, so I understand how frustrating it is. Also, I heard someone who developed the game said 00 Agent was supposed to be standard mode. I'd love to see footage of every developer beat the game and 00 Agent and not flip shit.

At the end of 00 Agent Train, after you shoot Ouramov you have to shoot Xenia as it gives you extra time for the Boris password objective

Why they did not work on an online multiplayer for this remake makes me super sad.

GoldenEye is one of the true speedrunning games. Running almost anything else seems a bit stupid because there's no timer, no purpose to it and some games are really fucking long like GTA. So although I loved this game, I hate that it became a trend to run other consoles games because of it

Played this as a kid my dad got it and unlocked all the cheats so I used to just mess around on his save lol

My favorite levels: 1. Facility 2. Streets (because of the tank) 3. Frigate 4. Silo 5. Jungle My least favorite levels: 1. Egyptian 2. Archives 3. Cradle 4. Bunker 2 5. Control

I’ll tell you the toughest one has got to be depot on 00 agent. Guards are not even in frame and they are shooting at you while you cannot shoot back.

I mean, if you have access to steam, it means you have access to a PC. Just get the emulator for it.

You made a mistake on the Silo. If you play on Agent there is no timer.

This is not a remaster it is just the n64 version on a emulator the real remaster is on the xbox 360 why not use that one. but lets praise the copy and paste version and call it a remaster

Nintendo didnt give any permission to do any change, and they allow console version just if Microsoft give it to them the multi online. Abd Nintendo is right you cannot change nothing of this jewel classic.

I swear if this were released now it wouldn't have MP, you'd have to pay for cheats or there just wouldn't be any cheats. There wouldn't be half the detail. They just broke the ceiling to pieces with this game. I think my favorites are 1. Facility 2. Aztec 3. Bunker 2 4. Silo 5. Control. I'm one of the weirdos that loved Control hahaha
