Canelo really changed pace in the 4th!

Lara had superb conditioning for this fight to be able to take all those hooks to the body and still move like he did. That was a lot of body work.

I know everybody is complaining about Lara running but the judging comes off of "exchanges" "generalship" and "defense" . Canelo could not cut off the ring so that does not count against Lara. In the exchanges however Lara had the slight edge but given the popularity of Canelo you cant scrape by (which has been the history of Lara fights)...given Bivol and Mayweather you have to be completely dominant over Canelo to barely get a win...anything close goes to Canelo no matter what. I predicted a split decision to Canelo if it was someone else Lara would of won.

Istg some people will just score walking forward without cutting the ring off for being more manly or some shit.

I really enjoyed in this fight, it was a clash of styles, respect for both of them.

Its clear to me popularity plays a large part in the comments here. I remember Larry Merchant talking about this fight and saying how almost all the media scoring the fight had it for Lara. He then discussed how several judging colleagues he spoke with scored the fight for Lara and none of them scored the fight for Alvarez. A few years back, Larry Merchant, Al Bernstein and Teddy Atlas spoke about this fight and talked about how they felt this is where Oscar De La Hoya (aka Golden Boy Productions) began fixing fights. One of the best comments came from Teddy Atlas who said" all you need to do is look at Canelo Alvarez after this fight. His body language prior to the judges reading the results tells you he thinks he lost. When they announced he won, he looked genuinely surprised. This goes in line with the overwhelming majority of the media and judges who scored the fight for Lara, but also those who watched afterwards and scored for Lara as well."

At the end of the day power punches are scored much more favorably than jabs. That’s all there is to it. Canelo won this one fair. It wasn’t even a draw. Even after all the wonky scorecards to date. The only robbery that Canelo has been apart of was GGG 1. It’s a shame too because him coming back to reclaim the titles a year later would’ve made for a much better story.

I’ve even watching fights for a long time and I’m a fan of Canelo but I have to say that a few body punches does not beat all the shots in the mug by Lara. Lara wins this one.

Agreed, A few more exchanges per round by Lara and he could have edged it or had it a draw... But no way was this a robbery. The announcers were dead on, If your tactfully evading, you need to "sell it" or have it be lateral movement for a purpose. Otherwise if you can't make up your mind about who won the "Movement" game. It Always goes to the Aggressor. Unlike say a Hatton, who would cut the ring off, but not land... Nelo was Ripping combinations almost every time. Fair Score. The fact it was a Split Decision especially... Can't be mad at that.

The commentators even said, Lara needs to start connecting, he's thrown 2 punches in the past two rounds. They also mentioned, If the ring was as big as the Grand Canyon, he would use it all.

Ooook so I watched the fight and I really just don’t get where the controversy is. Lara was basically running during all the fight and from the 9th round Canelo really started piecing him up, got him hurt and landed not only more but cleaner shots. How on earth this was a split decision is honestly beyond me.

It's footwork, and it's dancing not running. Usain Bolt can run, but he can't run and land punches on Canelo at the same time like Lara did. Defensive footwork is not running. How far can someone run in a small 18 by 22 foot boxing ring?? Why couldn't Canelo corner him? How was Canelo still unable to hit Lara when Lara could hit Canelo? He got outboxed, plain and simple, and Lara punished him with the jab and right hand throughout the whole fight. If you play Canelo’s punches in slow motion, you can see that most are being blocked, but Lara’s punches are landing more cleanly and accurately. Canelo is too one dimensional and flat footed; he's just a typical pressure fighter and plods forward like a walking punching bag, but he gets bailed out because of his fast reflexes, skilled counterpunching and sublime upper body movement. Lara is more athletic, graceful and fleet-footed. He lands his shots, does his share of damage, then gets back on his slick defense. Anyone who boxes knows that coaches and judges love the elusive style when it's done right: float like a butterfly, sting like a bee 🥊

The more I watch this I don’t know how people think Lara won. From six to twelve you maybe can give him the tenth. After the seventh eighth round he would walk away from exchanges with hands down hurting from the body shots. Canelo probably landed just as much body shots or more than Lara’s head shots. He was a defeated fighter in the second half. You could see he was wore down. I don’t think people know how to read a fighter’s expression and body language.

For instance look at the del la hoya fight vs may weather, de la Hoya was pressuring most of the fight but didn’t do shit, may weather was countering and stumbled him in like the 5th round, in this case canelo was the pressure fighter and actually did do sum damage u can’t win with just jabs all fight and “running around”

Both of them went at it but canelo was pressing harder towards the end rounds. No way did lara win this one.

I’d give it a draw, or 7-5 Canelo. Lara had a I connection rate, but was connecting once and getting out, while when Canelo had him, he’d connect 3-5 punches at a time. Lara def won the last round even though Canelo was pressing the action

But jabs arent scored higher than power punches of which canelo landed 88 to Lara's 52. He also had better ring generalship as he was walking Lara down and Lara quite literally ran away the entire time. Canelo won this fight 7-5. In other words Lara "loosed" this fight.

I scored the fight a draw. Lara could have won but was not busy enough late. Lara had an early lead that he squandered late. Canelo forced the fight the whole way so I dont have a problem with him getting a narrow edge on the score cards. Good fight overall.

Canelo just lands soooo many more effective punches. He controls the ring more. It only looks close just because he never throws nearly the amount of punches as his opponent does. So it looks like he’s losing rounds. But if you watch he’s throwing way more effective and accurate shots. Not just touch jabs.

He was unable to cut the ring off effectively. Thats not controlling the ring. Secondly if he was walking his opponent down and doesnt hit first then his opponent is controlling the ring then. Canelo threw more but Lara was by far more accurate. Canelo work rate was also better. It was a a draw in my book

Lara was mostly staying busy with pawing arm punches that weren't even connecting cleanly or at all. He'd land the occasional hard left or sometimes one-two but they were infrequent compared to Canelo's thudding body attack.

Canelo made the better adjustments during this fight. He found his range with those hard body punches and also did a better job of slipping, blocking and deflecting Lara's punches as the fight went on. Lara's best work were his one twos but they landed less and less both because of Canelo picking up his defense and also because those body shots from Canelo had Lara thinking twice about engaging.

People actually think lara won this lmao Canelo was landing the more effective punches and being the aggressor while lara was just landing his 1-2 and then would run.

But a lot of Lara’s punches landed on Canelo’s glove and defense. Not to mention Canelo landed several vicious body shots to Lara which is why Lara was fighting dirty with holding Canelo’s arms and hugging Canelo. He felt the body shots more than Canelo felt Lara’s jabs. Canelo won the fight by at least 2 rounds.

Lara didnt display much for the judges other then speed and jabs. was expecting more from Lara. had the fight a tie or it could have gone any way by a round in my opinion.

@John Bencomo Floyd clearly defeated all those boxers. Maidana 1 was close, the rematch was not. Cotto gave Floyd a bloody nose, but I didn't have him winning anywhere near enough rounds for the win. De La Hoyo threw many menacing punching, but most did not land. Castillo was close.

I agree, but i still can't give a close fight to the fighter with the aggressive elusiveness style.. Were supposed to be watching a fight.. Crazy thing is, i think if Lara stays in the battle zone, then he gets the clear victory. Ive seen many boxers who were aggressively eluding the other fighter, switch up styles, fought from zone, completely turn the fight around and win easily, stoppage and knockout I've seen, where they clearly change strategies mid thru the fight.. Many times corners urged them too because they were losing the fight even tho they were better boxer, Lara was clearly better boxer, well actually idk, he didnt fight from inside enough to know..

I'm actually doing my homework for the Bivol fight. I'm thinking Bivol has a real shot. Especially if he can get another 22 foot ring like against Smith. I have a lot of respect for Canelo being a boxing fan but I was rooting for Caleb even tho he was the underdog. This Bivol fight could be a 50/50 fight. Avoiding a fight, officially will get you points deducted, it's not considered a defensive strategy to flee. Bopping, moving the waist, moving head back, not jumping back, moving laterally is different than running or jumping backwards. A person who is phobic of getting hit should not le paid to box.

Fr the Canelo from 2019 would k.o Lara canelo is 28 now and has alot more experience and has improved in everything especially his ring IQ and his defense, footwork,timing

Lara was landing clean shots but he was running too much and not only that not every punch was landing he was also hitting gloves and air and Canelo was winning by breaking down the body and getting some shot to the head each round but also was head hunting a bit too much, 115-113 for Canelo though close fight ❤

Canelo supporters should be embarrassed, dude is just too slow and the commentators, are very suspect.

Say what you want, but Lara is pretty slick and game. Worked out in the same gym today. I may have to buck up for ringside later this month to support him.

Tbh, people say it as if Floyd KO or completely dominated him or hurt him badly. I was watching the fight, Floyd didn't seem that impressive. It was just the occasionally 1-2 then to the rope and clinch.

Lara WON this fight. He picked Canelo off with precision shots the whole fight. Despite staying aggressive and landing many effective body shots, Lara Frustrated the Hell out of Canelo with his movement. It's no secret Canelo is a heavy handed BEAST. Why would you just stand in front of that? So Yes, he was on his bicycle(movement)to create angles, That's Called Boxing... Hit and not get hit. Had Canelo landed half of the clean shots Lara did, that crowd would've gone stupid crazy!!! SALUTE

There was times that Lara was legit Sprinting away 😂 at least 2 rounds where he barely threw punches and was just sprinting across the ring. That’s why there was a 111-117 card 😂 CASUAL. Canelo worked the body so lara doesnt feel comfortable letting his hands go. Canelo is smart he limited lara and made him think before engaging w him thats why he ran all night

Canelo should learn how to stop blocking punches with his face. He got lit up all night

Lara’s problem is he never does enough to fully solidly a win. Not just in this fight but most of the fights he didn’t come away with a win. Especially in the later rounds when it really matters he just taps and goes he doesn’t do enough to solidify a win.

I understand people say Lara had to move away from punches but you also have to fight back witch he didn’t really do more moving then punching at least from what I saw 😂😂😂 how can you win a fight by not inflicting damage on your opponent make that make sense

Definitely didn't Outland Lara but did have a higher percentage of shots landed. And when the majority of those shots that were landed were power shots by a huge margin, I find it difficult to see why many people think Lara was robbed

@@californio1850 He landed enough head shots in response. Lara cracked him with right hooks as well as straight lefts, the occasional uppercut. Canelo had no choice but to hunt the body.

I'm confused by this one. I saw Canelo walk into so many straight punches, like way too many, and Lara barely got tagged. Canelo's plan was to walk through punches so he can plant his feet and smash inside, so Lara gave him the punches but didn't let him inside. But just because Canelo is walking forward the whole fight, he wins? I remember one clean body shot from Canelo, and then a lot of messy punches where Lara held his guard and got out. The times where Canelo actually stood and boxed with Lara he got impressively countered by Lara over and over again, it was awesome.

Dude rewatching this fight, Lara didn't have engage distance, his distance from canelo didn't even allow him to counter. I mean and he wonders why he lost the fight. Every time he got hit to the body he backed up and did not try to dominate him with a straight one two. With his frame he could have easily done a jab and a straight and moved to set up another 2 punch combo.

A few times Canelo over shot his stroke, and Lara was to tentative and slid out and was not able to take advantage with his own because of it.. Good fighter but must have low punch Resistance because he did not want any part of it.
