Gold Superior Cabin - Indian Pacific Train Australia (also The Ghan) Great Southern Rail
Showing the interior of the Gold Superior Cabin. This was taken on the Indian Pacific from Perth to Sydney September 2015. The Gold Superior cabin is also available on the Ghan. There are only 2 of these cabins on each train and they sell out quickly. The cabin has an additional lounge area that the regular Twin Gold cabins do not, and also has a permanent three quarter bed and a fold down single bunk (unlike the Gold twin cabins that feature a three seat lounger by day and two single bunks by night). The ensuite is also marginally larger than the standard gold twin cabin's.
There is very little official information available online about these cabins. Please feel free to ask any questions - the dimensions of cabin amenities etc can also be provided.

I remember travelling in the Deluxe Compartment(same as in video) in May 1987 on 'The Alice' a 1/week train that ran from Sydney-Alice Springs 48 hr journey. I had it all to myself as I went straight from plane from Canada to train. Nothing seems to have changed except for built-in safe. Back then the 'Indian-Pacific' ran 2x/week instead of only once.
I travelled in this cabin on the Indian Pacific Sydney to Kalgoorlie many years ago. It was called the Deluxe cabin then. As now, it was little promoted but made a world of difference to the journey being so much more spacious. In fact, we hardly made use of the Lounge Car as there was no sense of claustrophobia that the smaller cabins might give. It's a lot cheaper than paying for Platinum class.
Very helpful video, thank you.
HAD GOLD SUPERIOR ON INDIAN PACIFIC .IF YOU CAN GET IT , TAKE IT. DEFINITELY WORTH THE PRICE. TV, FRIDGE, COFFEE AND BOOZE. BETTER THAN PLATINUM
Bed looks pretty short. I'd love to go on that, but I'm 6'4.
Is this cabin also known as the twin bed gold class cabin?
How much was superior class? standard gold was $2150 pp twin share

I travelled solo in this cabin in April 2019. Cost: $7000.
Does that TV get reception all the way out in the middle of nowhere?

TV is only for DVD playback. Small selection of DVD's supplied on board - you could bring your own or use a Media Player through the DVD player's USB port.

+Jaedon Abbott Hi Jaedon,The Video is accurate throughout. If you want gold superior you will have to book early as I believe there is only 2 cabins on the train.RegardsBrian
I have no word to appreciate that Indian Pacific train is world best train.
The bed looks small, can fit a typical Aussie bloke? haha!

HiTrainAutovideos The lower berth is a 3/4 (halfway between king single and a double) and is about 6 feet in length. I used the upper berth which is a tighter squeeze - 1.78m long I think (this bunk is not as long as the upper berths in the regular gold class twin cabins). However a trick is to lie diagonally for more room.

It is somewhat dated but the space is amazing considering how little extra it costs. You don’t get that much space in the Platinum compartments. The other cabins are quite claustrophobic by comparison.
Seriously for half the price you can pull a 5 day cruise and smash 9 bars and milfs with change
