Gold Strike Hot Springs, an Amazing Local Secret Near Las Vegas

Since we’re only about 3 or 4 hours away from Las Vegas, we usually go there at least twice a year. Little did we know, this gem of a hike called Gold Strike Hot Springs is only about 30 minutes away from Vegas. Gold Strike Hot Springs is on our top 10 favorite hikes so far. It’s a combination of hiking, fun obstacle courses, beautiful scenery, gorgeous hot springs, and unique wildlife. And if you go all the way down, you can also see the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, towering over the Colorado River, just below Hoover Dam. I mean, what else can you ask for?

This canyon has changed so much from flash flooding over the years. Growing up in Vegas in the '60's-'70's we used to hike to all the hot springs and this one used to be much easier and hardly anyone knew it was there. No parking lot, no signs, no ropes.

I love this hike. If you go up the Colorado a little bit there is a little hot cave. I haven't been there for 15 years or so. First time I went was in the mid 90s. There was maybe enough parking for a half dozen cars but that was plenty. One time coming back up the canyon there was a couple in one of the pools and you could tell they were lacking clothing so we tried to give them some privacy by trying to go wide of the pool but we just ended up high on the side of the canyon with a birds eye view of the action.

Yes you can get there that way as well. A buck of purple did that last time we went. The reason we didn't stay in our water shoes is that the wash had really coarse sand in it. Will tell you from experience, don't do it in hot temps. If u partake in a hot springs soak you will be a bit dehydrated on the trek back out. In hot temps this gets exponentially hotter on the way out. Have plenty of water And Salt. Why a couple died on the way out with water. I know hikers who have been carried out do to heat exhaustion.
