Gold Reduction with Oxalic Acid -Complete Process

Ғылым және технология

www.goldnscrap.com/index.php/g... ** In this video i'll show the complete process for the reduction of gold from chloroauric acid using oxalic acid and pH adjustment.
This process is used exclusively as a second refining step. Meaning, the initial Aqua Regia solution already contains high putiry gold that was refined once in to the area of 99-99.9%.
Unlike The previous video (see link below), the gold dropped this way doesn't precipitate as a cool lava lamp, but rather as fine brown powder that clumps together easily. Nice and shiny looking Dendrites might grow here and there. It is still very pure though :)
• Reducing Gold from Chl...
** The complete written tutorial which includes more pictures and exact amount of reagents used is now available here:
www.goldnscrap.com/index.php/g...
This is the first time i'm uploading a video with narration. Hope you will find it more convenient and easy to understand.

You are a legend ! in some other countries, you gotta be a servant for years to learn this, yet here you teach openly and freely. once our lives end, i know you will feel something extraordinary for what you are doing now with your videos. totally the opposite compared to the ones that knows, and keeps it all to themselves.... Thats the difference of being a giving person, or a selfish person. You win in the end.

To all those randomly spouting information here. 1. No these chemicals aren't expensive, but they can be tricky to obtain in high concentrations. 2. Yes if you could get old PC parts by hauling them for someone cheap/free you could turn a profit. Gold is very heavy and worth minimum of $1100USD an ounce. You need time, money and expertise to pull this off but you could do this as a hobby and make a small amount of money on the side doing this, however without industrial sized machines and a large amount of scrap computer parts you're not going to make a living.

It is produced by dissolving gold in aqua regia (a mixture of concentrated nitric and hydrochloric acids) followed by careful evaporation of the solution Au + HNO3 + 4 HCl → HAuCl4 + NO + 2 H2O Under some conditions, oxygen can be used as the oxidant. For higher efficiency, these processes are conducted in autoclaves, which allows greater control of temperature and pressure. Alternatively, a solution of HAuCl4 can be produced by electrolysis of gold metal in hydrochloric acid: 2 Au + 8 HCl → 2 HAuCl4 + 3 H2

I agree with you - most people seem to have difficulties filming and doing their thing at the same time.. while talking. As a matter of fact, it does become confusing for the narrator at some point, but that's not an excuse. Especially when it is added as a separate recording (or at least it seems so). Good luck in your endeavors BTW. It's rewarding to see a person who accepts other's opinion even if it confronts their own.

No. For the reasons you mentioned. No need to destroy a perfectly reusable BDG. You can either adjust the pH of the Oxalic acid solution to 5-6 beforehand or just use Bisulfite solution to reduce the trace left over gold in the organic phase. But all this has little to to with the process described in the video. Apples and Oranges.

  • @indeedItdoes

Hi... Look at the equation in the video. The oxalic acid does not remain as it is, so there's nothing for you to recover. You could buy rather cheaply, sodium or potassium oxalate and make a solution of the salt and use that instead.

Hi Fortunately, this concern is invalid. In the presence of a reducer (Oxalic/Oxalate), by the time you reach pH1, all of the gold had been reduced already. However, you would precipitate hydoxides of other non precious elemens (if present) by adding too much NaOH. But it will be dissolved away with the following water and acid washes.
