Lol- reminded me of a Superfruit convo. Apparently Scott and Mitch (when they were rooming together) had some friends over. Scott, thinking it was hilarious, put ‘That’s Christmas to me’ on. Mitch was NOT amused. 😂🤣

You have to listen to the computerized original to really understand what an achievement this is. Fantastic, brilliant!

You really should have checked out the original first. Kiiara couldn't sing her own song without a computer. This song is a major reason why we say that PTX doesn't do covers, they do upgrades.

I didn’t know the original first time I heard this, yet it still became one of my all time favorites. Then I listened to the original, and my jaw was on the floor! But I’m not terribly upset I didn’t hear it first, I’m just glad I heard it later! It didn’t effect my appreciation at all, like some other songs of theirs. I wish this was on Apple Music though. 💛

@@heidi_d same. So I watched it one day. Hated it. Let's face it, Mitch is an alien unicorn, and his voice is the sound of angels. I have read an article that he admitted that he had a lot of difficulty getting the song correctly.

Obviously this was done live (not a studio video)...what attracted me right of the bat was the synchronization using the bodies...torso and head movements, snapping their fingers and being rhythmatic throughout the entire song, as well as their harmonies and layering in the last part of the song. This group is unmatchable !!!!

Who else thinks it’s time D goes on The Sing Off journey? I think he’s watched enough PTX to now go back to the very beginning and see how they started, how innovative they were even then, and how much they’ve all grown vocally. If you do go back, D, be sure to watch the ones on mr. duckbear’s account so you can watch the pre-song packages and also the judges comments after the performance. And, just like with Superfruit’s videos…watch all the way to the end. Sometimes there’s a little snippet of the group reacting to the judges comments. Enjoy!

Since KZread tends to block outside links, I made a throwaway "video" and linked the Google Sheet in the description: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3WXudl_kcu7lag.html Just sort the Song List tab by video information and it'll group all the Sing-Off performances together. Or use the Discography to get the performance name and find it in the Song List if you don't want to sort.

I've always found it fascinating, this video especially...Avi's way of keeping the beats. ..if you watch his hands thru the entire video you'll understand what I mean

So you are what, 10% of the way through. Such an enjoyable way to spend your time! What makes this one so enjoyable is no fancy sets, costumes, etc. just the 5 of them sitting down singing.

I wish I was a small KZreadr with a reaction channel, doing some stuff, being "PTX virgin" 🤣 and have never heard of them and one day a guy comments to check out for a PTX song and I would do this. Then I would also be on that incredible PTX journey 😍, being Mitch slapped, with speakers blown away by Avi's and Matt's flawless bass, adoring Scott for his incredible range and smooth voice, loving Kirstin for her immense talent and beauty and of course being speachless of Kevin's ingenuity... .. so I find my modest joy in watching reaction videos and I'm feeling happy with you and myself. So glad you got to this one! It's one of my all-time favourites. This is exactly what made Pentatonix so unique and why we love them so much. Mitch doing vocal acrobatics, jumping up and down the musical scale, completely showing off his vocal skill. Avi's signature bass drops that highlight the subterranean end of his range. Kevin being the one man band, human 808, that holds the vocals together. And Kirstie and Scott showing off their harmonies and precise timing... superb! I love their early one-take videos where we get to see what each member is doing throughout the arrangement. Brilliant!

I love this song and the way Mitch sings it is very...Mitch! He slays it and Avi and Kevin are exceptional, as usual.

When they first went to The Sing-Off, they were three...Scott, Mitch, and Kirsty. They were told they needed five and so they found Avi and Kevin TWO DAYS before they went on. Unreal! The rest is history.

Oooooo....when I saw your reaction to this pop up on my feed I jumped on it. I knew you would be amazed. Listen to the original version to really understand the immense vocal talent of Pentatonix. Indeed you said it, this is Pure Gold. Pure Pentatonix Perfection. Remember.....this is A Capella which literally means "without instrumental accompaniment" but PTX has re-defined the meaning of A Capella, their voices ARE the instrumental accompaniment. When I first saw this video I understood the real meaning of vocal acrobatics, and it is clear who the master acrobatics are. Kevin on those beat boxing sounds, Avi so deep underneath, Scoot with his pop voice, Kirstie with the backing ear candy, and Mitch with his vocals like pure gold, smooth, clean, precise and with those vocal slides up and down the octaves. My couch is ready for those five to come and sit and perform any day.

@@heidi_d To take this 10 miles down the road, I always wished someone would have a KZread channel that featured say the TOP 20 PTX reactors based on PTX #s in their playlists to promote their channels with PTX likes and views to support their KZread algorithms, provide an incentive for them to react to PTX and for us to know who the PTX All Star reactors are. It could provide links for us to quickly navigate to their channels. Is this doable pipedream (for someone, not me)?

@@SolaScriptura777.4me2 I think that would be AMAZING! Only issue I see is that I don’t know how to find those reactors. I’m ALL up in the PTX reactor-sphere, and know who’s new in the journey, mid-journey, who’s tapped out, and who’s at the point where they’re mostly just waiting for new content. The thing is, I think it could be difficult to “quantify” the best reactors. For example, there’s a new reactor “T.I” who has less than 1,000 subs. He’s amazing! But his numbers aren’t there yet. But you’ve given me something interesting to think about for sure!! Hmmmm…. 🤔

This is one of my all time favorite songs they recorded! And I don't like the original of this song at all! Too much electronic stuff in it for me. But PTX kills it! I love these early simple recordings. Their high production videos are great, but these simple "sit down & sing" recordings really show their amazing talents! 💖

I love this one so much. And, well, now you've reacted to Gold could you do Rose Gold (a PTX original).
