GOLD Chain? Harley Dyna Update: Wheelies Broke My Chain Installing New RK X Ring 530 How (Not) To
Today we're finally getting the chain replaced on the Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob Custom Club Style MACHINE! I broke the chain a few weeks back while attempting wheelie shenanigans. I ordered a new chain (RK 530 x 120). I went with Gold because it was one of the only options on Amazon with fast shipping (see link below). I also picked up the Motion Pro Chain Alignment tool (link below). I'm not a professional or certified mechanic, so watch at your own risk. For entertainment purposes only!

The one other thing it kind of works with is the exhaust. While not gold, it's the kind of raw style. I think gold fork tubes would be kind of cool as well. I hear ya though on the color themes - you gotta balance it out. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Enjoy your videos! Professional bike mechanic here from back in the day. You did a good job with what you knew and had, here's advice for you and your subs to do the job cheaper and correctly. Dont buy any of the "chain break" tools, spend your money on things you'll use more frequently. For this job, a bench mounted grinder and vise. Also a 1/4" punch. Keep the bike on the ground, move the tire all the way forward. Wrap your chain and mark the link you need to cut. Use the grinder to grind off both sides of the pin. Place in the vice tightly, knock out pin with punch...easy and cheap! Wrap your chain, install the connecting ling from inside to out. When installing the "keeper clip", "closed end points forward, open end points rear"! Check the "lash" spec (how much the chain moves up and down when properly adjusted). Make sure you are dead accurate on both sides of the tire when you move it back. Put 50-75 miles on the chain then readjust "lash" as needed. There you go. Until next time remember, "Dont let off the gas, the fans will think you're afraid"!

Tremendous THANKS and SHOUT OUT for taking the time to provide some pro info/tips! Much appreciated! Any recommendations for the rivet style master link installation. I kid you not, my chain fell off again today (vid to come). My assumption is that I somehow bent the master link when using the rivet tool to install it. I'm thinking that because I found the master link and it's slightly tweaked/bent. I suppose that could've happened some other way as well, but who knows.

One word of advice. Not because you did anything wrong, but because I've seen more than a few bikes just fall over or slide off a jack. Run a ratchet strap from one side of the jack, over the frame between the tank and seat, and to the other side of the jack. That's what those welded rectangular pieces of round steel are for at the base of the jack. I had it happen to me once while fighting with an FXR primary, and that was the last time it happened too. Remember, if it can happen, it will at some point.

@@JonsMotoGarage I know my comments may come across as negative to some, but I don't intend them to be taken that way. So if you ever get that vibe from me, that's not the intent. I started riding over 30 years ago, and got my 1st Harley 25 years ago. 2 Japanese bikes and 5 Harleys later, none have ever seen the inside of another person's shop because I did all my own maintenance and repair. I learned everything I know through repair manuals and mistakes on my part. diggin the chain bro. it was hard to tell but when you were setting the chain tension i think you measure from the top to bottom at your measuring points. you should measure at the same side of the chain. im not sure what the measurement is but as a machine builder i work with chains and belts alot and i think your chain looked a bit too tight. you might be fine since its new and will stretch some as you rip on it. just remember a loose chain is a happy chain.
