The reason some karts scuff the tires and dont turn very tight is explained. Not to be confused with live axle push,BUTwill help immensely to steer tighter and not wear front tires off.

Yah you don't know the terminology, but you sure as hell know what you're talking about. I saved your clips over any others because you explained how they have to line up with the center of the back axle. Thank ya, man!

Makes perfect sense, all of the go karts and go kart parts I find are not even manufactured right. Great info...

The funny thing about the rambler that I put the econoline axle in backwards on, I see it on different sites for sale these days, all painted up Red and White with 55 Chevy airbrushed trim on it and bragging on how slick it was made when really I threw it together out of odds and ends but the new owner made up his own story and so did the owner before him! Funny how that works…In some circles, they call that bald face lying!

Thx for the info. I bought a Carter go kart from a guy who said they did some work on it...😳. They did some work on it alright. Everything was a disaster. The steering was/is terrible. This is like the picture on the left (center bolt is 1 bolt) and they have the tie rods pointing dead straight. I’m hoping when I adjust them as u say it steers much better. Also they had a super skinny belt on it and it needed a 3/4” belt. The torque converter isn’t working properly and it killing the new belt. I’m finding rubber dust everywhere on the back of the bench seat from the belt.. I sure hope I can get this all worked out soon before I drive it off a cliff..😜

Now can you do one on adjusting the camber and the caster on the pivot points. I've noticed it simple steering knuckles are pretty much straight. But the better ones have some angle. Even the C clip that holds the kingpin is welded on at an angle.😊

kingpin inclination, the angle of the kingpin from vertical when looked at the front. helps self center. think of the frame as "hanging" from the kingpins. also brings pivot line to CENTER of wheel. "scrub steer radius". reduce bump steer. caster. angle from vertical when looking from the side. moves pivot point in front of contact patch. so friction helps self center. camber. angle of the WHEELS when looked from the front. all lined up with that kingpin inclination so tyres rotate on center of tread, ideally...

Great informative video. I knew about Ackermann, but did not know about crossover tierod method. I am building a kart now, still on paper. I think l may try the crossover method. Is there a preferred spacing between holes, or a formula to calculate it? Thank you for making it easy for all to understand.

Thx, I’m bummed this won’t work for an already built cart. Of course my carts tie rod ends where connected to the axel behind the tires are all welded. Unless I make the tires toe out ( I’m thinking this is not what u would want me to do) then I don’t have any adjustment

Mine where pre welded and I can’t figure how to get around it with the pitman I tried overlapping and doing stuff like that and the opposite wheels is turning more that the other one so if I turn right the left wheel is turning way more that the right

Hmmm. I just built a go kart and mine are not correct , they are not straight either. They are pointed the wrong way.... what does that cause?

what would be the measurement comparison of the two horizontal lenghts?? in order for the tie rods to be at the right angle??????

  • @StupidEarthlings

Theres no set angle. Take a string and run from center of kingpin, to center of rear axle. The mounting hole for tie rods should be along that string. Hope that makes sense. This guy really complicates this.

Hey man Im having some issues with a kart I purchased. It is very hard to turn, especially in one direction. Also when turning in one direction it lifts up on the front of the kart?

Ps, its not a "theory", its just ackerman angle, and its just the way it has to be.
