"While many people do not associate heavy metal with the future of aerodynamics, it turns out that French heavy metal band Gojira were onto something in their song 'Flying Whales.' Humpback whales have bumps on the leading edge of their tails, which affects its aerodynamics." The start of my introduction for my Experimental Aerodynamics project.

@@wastingtime2380 I think it could be. I mean the first riff around 2:25. It hits so heavy because it has got so little spaces between notes, and except that never gives a resting chance to your ears. And it's coming after 2 minutes of calmness. Bass and guitar plays the same thing too. They are just on different octaves. So...it's just majestic. That's the riff that made Gojira famous. Maybe not Top 10, but it deserves Top 100 at least, definitely.

Water of chaos Have invaded all space The flood on earth again I have to find the whales That once did guides us To dry lands of life I won't despair I'll break this dark all around Under the heavy sea I'll search the flight of whales Beneath the seas I searched And had a different view Of us on earth The sinking ship of men But it's beyond the stars I found the place Where they were And they finally came to light Over the winds They dwell in light Like the arrow in the sky I found myself on higher grounds From up here For I see them in flight Now I can see the whales Looming out of the dark Like arrows in the sky I can't believe my eyes But it's true Huge tunnel ends in light Like banks of clouds they gather See massive shape of flesh Swimming giants in the clear The mightiest comes to me I'm on the wing, wide open They teach me how to fly Slowly moving in the air So much told with no words at all Powerful presence for only speech Breath Over the winds They dwell in light Fly

4:56 - 5:37 I lose it everytime when that section kicks in. I couldn't care less about elitists say but that section IMO is heavier and pulverizing than most slam metal songs I've listened to date. My face gets involuntarily scrunched up everytime I listen to these riffs. This is coming from someone who's an ardent fan of extreme metal - brutal death and black metal in particular. Gojira just nailed it, that's all I can say.

It really took me off guard the first time, and I'm still impressed to this day how complex it is. Gojira really understands how to create dynamic songs that are extremely rewarding to listen again and not just stay in one vibe for the whole song.

2 жыл бұрын
Great way of describing that. I would have loved to have been in the studio when he first played it and everyone heard it. Reminds me of some of the heavy slower riffs on Tool's latest-like on the song invincible.
I have always felt like this song has one of the most effective, and hardest hitting breakdowns ever written. It's not the most impressive, nor the most technical. It's relatively simple and straight forward, but it serves the purpose of a huge release after a long buildup better than any breakdown I've heard since. You can say what you will about breakdowns but when it's used right and hits hard, it's an incredibly cathartic feeling. This one hits like a fucking nuclear detonation.
One of my favorite Gojira songs. Ending with the apocalyps.
Impossible not to head bang to
I used to skip this song for the longest time because of the intro, and one time i had to hear it in its entirety, and man, biggest regret ever, i never skip this song again.

That was pretty much my family's holiday destination every single year apart from a few times where we went elsewhere, but was never as nice as Lindos was, so kept going back. Been yh, over 25 times. Last time I went was 4 years ago with a friend for the 1st time in about 10 years which was nice for me. I would like to live there as it is so special a place for me. My favourite place in the world I think. David Gilmour from Pink Floyd has a place there as well. I saw him once on the beach when I was a kid and my dad told me who he was. His daughter Sarah was there every single year when her dad often wasn't. I saw her all of the time there, but never spoke to her properly cuz I'm a dick. I was meant to get with her eventually, marry her and Dave Gilmour be my father-in law, but unfortunately that didn't happen..
