Just saw them on 5/5 at St Augustine Florida. Was absolutely amazing! Been waiting for years and was so worth it! Lorna Shore opened and Mastodon finished! Both were awesome!

After the arrival of Death Metal from Florida and Sweden, I have the impression that French metal is coming in force in the world of metal, I recently discovered Gojira, Carcariass, Igorrr. All different and all original! Bravo french guys!

The most popular metal bands almost always have very prominent bass in the mix. In fact it is the more underground, obscure, extreme and stubbornly musically conservative genres of metal that drown their basses in the mix. Largest metal acts today (Tool, Gojira, Mastodon, Deftones etc.), the entire modern prog/djent scene, 90's alt and prog metal (AIC, FNM, RATM, Primus, Dream Theater), the entire post metal genre, early death metal, hell even pioneers like Iron Maiden - all have prominent recognizable bass sounds and celebrated bass players. It can even be argued that after the 90s mainstream boom in alternative rock and metal you need a unique bass to even make it - because a larger more mainstream audience is conditioned in recognizing the bass lines from other popular genres of music. I believe that people who think bass in metal is mostly absent focus too much of their attention on old heavy and thrash metal of the 80's and early 90s or death and black metal that seems frozen in time. This blind focus has made a lot of them mostly miss the astonishing evolution of modern metal and it's more bass centered production and arrangements. Listen to bands like Intronaut (The Direction of Last Things album) and Karnivool (Sound Awake album) for more examples of the ever evolving role of bass in modern metal. You might be surprised.

I am 65 and loving it!

To sum up, it's about humanity's relationship with it's greatest and most primal fear, death. And what we do while we're alive to distract ourselves to forget it. The need to focus on what's important, living, and own less meaningless things. That ultimately, we're born to slowly prepare ourselves for our ultimate fate, and we need to accept it and live while we wait for the inevitable. Because death is as much a part of our existence as being born. There was void before and there will be void after. The important thing is to live and be happy with our time here while it lasts. It's a theme that is reminiscent of Gojira, especially in the album TWOAF.

I was there when they stopped in LA on the Mega Monsters tour in April 2023, and I dont think they couldve picked a more fitting song to open with. That was my first concert, and now everytime this song comes on my playlist, I get the chills. Such an awesome experience 🐋🌕

That ending feels like a direct assault on everyone who said "Gojira isn't heavy anymore, they suck now." I'm so here for it.

Well you can't be in denial that this actually is a lot less heavy than their usual style, even less so than Magma. It's a good song, but barrading and lying to those that this is per se, just as heavy as something on From Mars... is just pretty awful. Gojira has a unique style, we can hear it here. They have changed, some people will complain regardless of that. Granted, I still think the song is alright - it's nothing amazing honestly. Solid song, less heavy - but the style is doesn't affect my opinion

@@VicSellsPeace The composition as a whole is generally less heavy, but my point was that the ending demonstrates they’re still capable of delivering a very satisfying bout of the good stuff. Of course their songwriting style has evolved over the years, and the heavy portions are typically shorter and more measured with their progressive style. But I’m still very satisfied with the direction they’re heading, and I personally quite enjoy this song.

Their evolution is so damn good you can see the style they developed over the years sticks still sounds similar in their new music something many metal bands struggle to do when they try to reach a new audience yet please their old fan base... I feel like im growing with them and i fucking love it. So much i got two album covers tattooed on me.

@@guillermolopez8931 Couldn’t agree more. Gojira’s unique style is the main reason I’ve listened to them for so long, heavy or not. If I want nothing but unrelenting heaviness for decades on end, there’s always Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, or Deicide.
