Going to KATOWICE in POLAND Today!
Today I'm leaving Bratislava and taking the train to Katowice, Poland. I spent most of the trip in the dining car. Enjoying a German beer, then later on coffee and a dessert. I arrived at the main train station in Katowice and I was very surprised by how modern it looks. This is a brand new station, in fact. I found myself right in the center of town. Next to check into my hostel, which has a video game theme. Then back out to film the city a bit on my first evening in Katowice. I'm so happy to be back in Poland!

Katowice station is not brand new but totally rebuilt. Before 2000 station was an ugly brutalist structure in pure concrete. Only supporting pillars are some sections of the roof were left ( you can see them at 9:14 ). Interior is totally new and very well designed.

It looks like Kerry, you've been "train" -ing (riding the train) a lot recently; it seems to me that you're enjoying the experience. What a nice family on the train, and everyone speaks English; I wish them all the best. Katowice is a great city to stop by; there are lots of historical buildings and beautiful architecture. Additionally, the modern structures are nicely blended into the city's view. The hostel is really impressive with its game-themed lounge - wow, I wonder how much it costs per night! Try to catch the tiny tram on video if they still have them.

I've been lucky to meet some great people on the train today. Katowice has been great so far, we'll see more in future videos. The hostel is great and during the week I got a cheap price. It was a little over $14 USD a night. Illook for the tiny tram, but it seems as thought they have gone quite modern now in Katowice. Thanks my friend hope you're doing well.

Good day to You :) Really, i know this is the new KZread trend, to wander around the cities spontaneus, but I dont get why KZreadrs which visit Katowice just wander around the railway station area (which is not very nice in most Polish cities -f.e. Warsaw) Katowice have so much to offer, Spodek and Silesian Museum Area, Park Śląski with cable car Elka, Tauzen, Nikiszowiec… Thats a pity You didnt check that You are in some kind of autonomous region like Catalunya, where people speak dialect mix ..a little bit of German, Czech and. Polish. Silesia has different regional cousine… If You want to see nicer part of Katowice, I reccomend to You video from KZreadr „Planet James” :) Anyway, I wish You good luck and have a nice time in Poland !!

I was there about a month after you were there in the latter part of June. I traveled for a day by train from Czestochowa and also stayed in a hostel but at least had my own room. I do not think I could stand traveling all day just to end up in a room filled with six or even eight total strangers. I too noticed that prices were high in the town, they even wanted 4.5 zloties to go for a piss at the station so went for free in the shopping mall! At the end of the day, 4.5 zloties is a pound. This is the only video I have seen so did you also go and see the Spodek sports stadium? It is not very far away at all and is eas to get thre on foot.

Okay, im shocked by those prices, Im living in city of 90k people and It's way cheaper here, and as I remember even year ago when I was in Wrocław it was also way cheaper there... Prices really went up recently... Even in my city prices went up by a lot, In 2021 I was able to get a cut in the city for only 20PLN, now it's 50PLN or even more now. Also when it comes to the ads, some Polish cities are trying to get rid of them, for example Gdańsk or Kraków, those are really destroying look of Polish cities at least most of them, along with unrenovated buildings but those are getting renovated sooner or later, recently in my city lots of them is getting renovated luckily.

I visited many Polish cities and it always looked pretty good to me, but Katowice slightly shocked me, when you go like 2km from center, it looks like WWII ended yesterday. 😀 Those smaller cities and villages which are part of Katowice aglomeration look like after bombing, if we had tram rails in such condition as they have in Katowice, they would have to close it completely. 😀 BTW, while going to Poland in these days, I recommend to avoid trains which continue to Ukraine or to Polish/Ukrainian border, it's full of yelling Ukrainians who don't even know what is seat reservation. 😀 You met calm Ukrainians, which is good for you, but in some trains, it really feels like at some market in Egypt or something. 😀 8 years and 14 years and they speak pretty good English, how is that possible?
