I did Disneyland on a grad night in 1969 when DCA was a parking lot. It was commonly called the "All Night Party" at my school and was a great alternative to the drinking parties common after graduation ceremonies. A lot has changed since then; in those days it was officially called Date Night for the grads and you could only attend if you were a couple. I was so nervous when I asked Kathy on a real date. Gotta love those dark rides in Fantasyland!

Grad night at Disneyland in 2000 was one of the best times of my life. We went from 8pm to 6am.

I used to play softball and at our snack bar they had Fritos. You got them in the bag with chili and cheese. They were called Frito Boats and were delicious 🤩😍

I thinks those stanchions are for the magic key turning red foam paw queue.

I may be able to shed some light on the stanchions at the Hyperion. I was at DCA last month with my kid’s high school band and choir groups for a music festival. The festival awards ceremony was held in the Hyperion. They had the stanchions up to assist in getting the hundreds of kids into the theater in an orderly fashion. There are many of these festivals put on throughout the spring time. I imagine that’s why the stanchions keep appearing and disappearing.

My thought process for the que set up at the hyperion is for grad nite and previously was for the performing arts students all being at the park. I was there and actually saw all the classes and different schools leaving the hyperion. Thats my 2 cents :)

When I was at Grad Nite 35 years ago, grads didn’t enter the park til it was closed and the regular guests had left. At least that’s how I remember it 🤔 Of course, there was no DCA then either so maybe it’s changed.

I was at Grad Nite in 1989. Having to wear a suit all night while going on rides was such a drag. Hopefully they’ve since eased up on the dress code.

I went to DCA on May 15th in the morning, it was a grad night day, and the park was empty, then I park hopped over to disneyland at 1130 and it was so crowded there, but grad night days have been nice so far

I miss breakfast at Flo's. That tamale and the morning ambience was the perfect way to start the day.

Me at 10:25 right after having a coke spilled on my shoes, haha. It was nice to finally meet you! Thanks for taking a minute to stop and talk.

Totally agree on the Avatar experience going in the DL Forward space. I think that's always been the case. They've been dangling that carrot more and more obviously as time goes on. I don't see why they would disrupt the flow of Tomorrowland that severely - not to mention with Grizzly Peak where it would completely disrupt many offerings guests love like Oogie Boogie's Villian's Grove, Soarin, and not to mention the Grand Californian. Imagine looking out of your suite and seeing a floating mountain there... doesn't make sense to me!! Love the status reports! Helps when missing the parks!! Keep it up!!

I'm not sure the exact time david was there, but as someone who experienced grad nite in 2017, I know the schools have access to Disneyland from 6pm-9pm and Disneyland was HORRIBLY packed. So yeah DCA would be the choice until 9pm 😅

The bare steel-girder look of Hyperion Theater is the essence of DCA 1.0 (2001). The Hollywood Backlot area in general isn't a whole lot better. But now that the "soundstages" are unused and so is the theater, DisneySea (2001 & even more so in 2024) looks at DCA and says, "Hold my beer."

The state of the Pier games is actually sad. Every time i go to Dca i always go on the games even when it was Paradise pier. There fun and they’re better than typical amusement park games no question. Give it love people! I would hate to see that space abandoned in the future. Maybe if they can’t keep it Disney could relocate the games to another Disney park in the future idk but id just hate to see it go…

With regards to the Pixar Pier, I paid for a park ticket and I pay for food. It's my philosophy not to spend additional money on their games, and I don't feel like I'm missing out at all. I'm not sure what the appeal is for people to play them, you can go to a $5 local fair and play them there.

Okay, I’m gonna make two comments. My sister went for grad night in 1978. She said the Skyway and the People Mover were the places for smoking weed. So… hahaha the 70’s. You asked the other day why people are not filling the parks. I was an AP holder for years and would pay to bring friends. We could just show up and have a great time. Now the reservation system has made it impossible. I operate a non profit to help young adults in the SF East Bay Area get an education, get them off the streets and show them that they can break away from Oakland. I looked into taking 4 of the young people to Disneyland so they can see what is outside of what they know. It would cost $12,000. For three days at Disneyland and we don’t even know if we could get the Disneyland reservations to work with the flights and hotels.

I graduated the same year as you. It seems like the blink of an eye.

Grad night is all day and night event. My local high school will be there from 10am to 3am. That’s a long time in one park. There’s no leaving early if you take the bus. They take roll. My kid will be there in 3 years. Zootopia would work better in Hollywood Backlot. Easier to attach facades to the hangar building and add the ride mechanisms. Avatar should go in Simba Parking Lot and Fantasy Springs too.

Tried to see if I can go tomorrow. Not only is tomorrow not available, there's nothing at all for Imagine Keys left for May at all. Guess it's not so "easy" to go to Disneyland for every Key level lol. Guess that's it til after summer for me!

At first I thought you had typed Inspire Key and I was about to type that there’s LOTS of available reservations. Then I reread. As of my checking, only Thursday May 30th is available for Imagine Keys. I can see why you’re bummed. Those bottom level keys are challenging.

I really don’t understand how ppl can afford Disneyland. not everyone can afford $160-$200 for 1day at a theme park. I really miss Disney but I can’t justify paying that much when universal only charges$179 for 9months.

6:00. Both Disneyland concept arts show something that resembles almost the exact layout or looking layout of the Pandora concept part that was showed. I don’t know how anybody think that is going anyplace other than Disneyland especially approved. I think the Hollywood backlot was a Plan B and I also don’t think that would be considered a land. I think it would’ve been considered an experience as opposed to indignant forward it would be considered a land.

Isn't cocina cucomonga closed right now? That could certainly contribute to the empty seats in San Fransokyo. It's the best place to eat there. Yeah, if you are waiting to do anything until after 9 PM at DCA you may not get to do it at all. That park is infamous for essentially closing early without closing. Restaurants stop serving, kiosks go dark, rides taper off into 'maintenance' mode... And yet Disneyland is exactly the opposite, very strange. It's almost like they make money from people hopping parks or something 🤔🤔🤔

Nope. Those are audio glitches that were not addressed. David probably doesn’t record backup audio, so when the audio glitches, there’s no way to fix it.

I got Blue Sky ideas for replacements at Disney California Adventure I know this is gonna be a controversial opinion but i think closing down Muppet Vision 3-D was a big mistake because now Disneyland has no Muppets attraction but I think they should retheme the Paradise Gardens area with The Muppets The Little Mermaid attraction will stay because that is a great ride and I love it but the other attractions near it would close the Golden Zephyr will be rethemed to Pigs in Space from The Muppet Show, Jumpin Jellyfish will be Themed to Hot airballoons themed to Kermit the Frog taken from The Great Muppet Caper, Goofy's Sky School will be Rethemed to The Great Gonzo's StuntMadness and instead of a Airplanes guests will ride on the Plunger car from the Muppet Movie and the attraction takes place in The Great Gonzo's StuntShow Madness and for his 3rd act he invited you the guests on his Plunger Car the beginning of the ride you see Gonzo in his cannon being launched in the sky and then your car jumps though a Fire hoop (Which is not a fire Hoop it's just a hoop painted orange but it glows in the Dark at Night), a circular Saw, and at the end you see Gonzo on his Motorcycle in a slingshow and at the end he crashing himself and the motorcycle on the Stunt show Building and you see his cutout and his Motorcycle on the Building which is a tribute Muppet Vision 3-D and then at the end you unload from the vehicle and exit safety. The pizza place near by will be rethemed to PizzaRizzo from Disney World, and lastly The Silly Symphony Swings will be rethemed to the Electric Mayhem and will be titled The Eletric Mayhem: RockSwings my 2nd other idea is Paradise Gardens attractions like Goofy's Sky School, Golden Zephyr, Jumpin Jellyfish, and Silly Symphony Swings will be demolished for a FreeGuy Land the Land will take place in FreeCity from the Film and the main ride will take rider on a adventure through FreeCity and the attraction will use the same Ride system technology from The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida but instead of Rollercoaster vehicles its the Car that Ryan Reynolds drives in the film the land will contain the Coffee shop and Bubble Gum ice cream stand as seen from the film and the land will sell the Blue Lightsaber and Captain America Shield seen from the film also ok now my 3rd idea is The Hyperion Theater and Stage 12 will be demolished for a ride based on Zootopia the ride will use the same ride system technology used in Despicable Me Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida, my 4th idea is Stage 17 will be a Lucasfilm Restaurant and Mickey's philharmagic will stay but for a limited time Muppet Vision 3-D should come back maybe for the 25th anniversary of Disney California Adventure

I literally just don’t have any desire to have avatar on the west coast, sure it is popular, but 25 years from now will anyone care? I highly doubt it. It just seems like too much of a fad that they are pushing via the movies and while people think they are visually stunning, I know zero people who say they are an Avatar fan like they are with marvel and Star Wars. Maybe it is just me though 🤷🏼‍♀️

My high school in Long Beach did grad night at Disneyland every single year for decades EXCEPT the one year that it was MY turn to graduate in ‘94. They experimented with Camelot (mini-golf) 😩😩🥹I didn’t even go. Needless to say it was a disappointment and the following year they went back to Disney.
