Im with you re: guys paying on 1st date, esp if it isn't anything big (coffee, a drink). I think its just a nice gesture esp if they initiated the date. its funny but my bf paid for my coffee on our first date and later told me he like never did that usually lol

Just so funny, for me is the opposite I’m used to sharing 50/50 payments and down the line on relationships people start paying more for me. I feel it’s really cultural because here in Brazil I think most people pay for their own drinks hahaha

He might not have a ton of money and that could be why like you said but it could also be that he feels the same as you about putting money into something that you don’t know will go anywhere. Could also just be showing his intentions for the future anyway…maybe he wasn’t planning on it going anywhere

i think it's normal for someone on a first date to not want to pay for the other person, and it's especially normal that he offered to pay for the first round and you'd pay for the second. it's probably how he views relationships as 50-50, but if that's not how you view relationships then he's not for you.
