Going For Gold 1987 (FIRST EVER EPISODE) Part 1
Ойын-сауық
Another game show now and this one is rather special. It's the European show Going For Gold, but not only that, it's the very first episode, recorded in October 1987. A great find, you can now see how the show that would run for over 700 episodes and nine years all started. Your host is Henry Kelly.
I'd also like to thank benriggers for discovering this episode on a tape that he sent me because it's a great game show find.

Henry Kelly is actually the most hospitable host ever. He always puts contestants in the spotlight instead of taking it for himself.
Richard Leslie did have a diplomatic career coming up all right.. head of French at my high school! He was an excellent (if rather flamboyant) teacher. Not everyone bought into his ways, but I found him to be inspirational and charismatic... just as he comes across here!!

reminds me of skiving off school..
I love this show sm I used to watch that episode everyday with my grand mother 🎉😢
In an accidental Partridge moment, I nearly literally bumped in to Henry Kelly during a Pointless Celebrities shoot. There was a bathroom break and I was walking back to the studio as he was walking out. He is as short as me lol.
Great prize all meals included 👍
used to love this program, theme tune and all.
Every man alive = jealous of this LEGEND...

Why?
Love how Henry Kelly asks the Dutchman if he wears clogs! surprised he didn't ask the Scotsman if he wore a kilt...
God, I had only just been Nursery School a month when this was on!
Reminds me of recovering from chickenpox in my childhood !! 2 weeks off school and watched entire épisodes of this for two weeks aged 7 😁🤣
I bet Richard felt a jolt of tremendous satisfaction when he delivered the word ''fools'' as he beat Ian and Jacob.
This is the series premiere episode of the British TV show "Going For Gold" (a quiz show featuring contestants all around Europe) & it's originally aired October 1987 on BBC1 (United Kingdom). 🇬🇧 🇬🇧
Gosh, it is 25 years ago, This year Going For Gold first started TVajb.

They're the ones where Henry Kelly turned up pissed and started insulting the contestants. Oh you're German are you Franz? Surprised you don't wanna take over the fucking studio. English are you Peter? Wanna take the potatoes out me cupboard do you? And you're Italian are you Philippo? Don't run off if there's any loud bangs cos it won't be a war. Then old Henry urinated up the podium and fell asleep on a member of the audience.
Henry Kelly - for 2 points, what 'C' am I?

Memories of school holidays
Would be a perfect opportunity for the BBC to bring it back since London have the Olympics...
you can win this..... what!!?? a 747 plane! wow
I'm playing ketchup.
Lol he keeps bouncing up and down on his toes when he talks.
Henry jelly is NOT A HOST WITH THE MOST
There is literally no quiz show so bad that it can't run for 700 episodes.
Reminds me of insomnia, flu and vomit in the toilet.
Henry Kelly is like a gay James Bond.

There were some hot European women on here. Unfortunately the camera was never on them long enough to finish your Barclays bank.
Not sure why they thought South Korea (or just Korea, as they put it) was in South-East Asia!
@AidanLunn Yes I knew that anf it flopped big time, however since the BBC had the Olympics it would have been a perfect opportunity for them to bring it back.
In the second round, when two persons answered incorrectly, the third wasn't given an opportunity to answer. Seems a bit unfair. This happened on two occasions.
Who am I? I'm a smug Irish toss pot what host's Going for gold?
Why is Clark Kent pretending to be a guy called Jacob? Having that false accent is as useful a disguise as glasses on Sup.... Wait a minute!
You're troo to de first round propah
A holes with an a hole....

I wonder if Richard ever spoke to Hans and got a diplomatic career

It was worse than 'Questions pour un champion'. Why the British not simply adapted the French one?

Questions pour un champion came after Going for Gold; both based on a failed US pilot Run for the Money.

Question one: In English literature, which Scottish person married a Welsh person and said fuck off to all the foreigners because they spoke a different language? BZZZ Hans: Hamish McCuntyface Henry: Correct. Well that didn't work. Thank goodness they hired a question master who sounds like a leprechaun to make this sound like the British like the EU. LOL
