Thank you for following your heart and making this video. Photography as an art is a love, but it always felt so unspiritual. This was a wonderful affirmation that those passions we carry within us are a part of God as an expression of his love to this world. ❤️

Thank you for giving me something to think about. I have never looked at photography in a spiritual way, however I do see photography as a way to express creativity, which can be a spiritual experience. Very interesting post.

Hi Judy, your video: Going Deeper: Photography as a Spiritual Path, touched me. I have been photographing for years. The most important thing was the settings of the camera to take a good picture. This changed a few years ago. The picture became more important to show what you see and feel. Not all photos can touch you, but if there is a hit, the story will come to you automatically. For a year now I have been photographing at an institution for dementia and non-congenital brain injury. I do this together with my wife. Photographing the residents is important. You're working on their latest photobook, there won't be more. This should include beautiful and emotional photos that touch you. Not only important for the residents themselves, but also for the family that remains behind. Thank you for your video, it has given me new inspiration. Jac. Janssen

Judy, this is beautiful. Thank you. I retired from nursing, in my final position as a hospice bedside nurse. During Covid I found myself going to the beach in the early morning and finding solace and restoration of my spirit. My grandson died in October 2019, and I was still mourning the loss. I felt welcomed and embraced by the benign reality and beauty of nature. The sunrises, sunsets, and rainbows I saw were so healing. Due to there being fewer people at the beach, there was more wildlife to welcome me. I often found myself noticing reflections when I took pictures and began to reflect on how what I was seeing was making me feel and think. My spirit was uplifted. I have been in awe of the natural world since I was a child. I was raised in a religious tradition, but no one addressed spirituality. Early on I pondered the 'meaning of life' and what the afterlife was like, which was viewed as unusual by my peers, as well as by adults. When I left nursing in 2021, I was gifted a camera, and as I began taking better photos than with my phone, I shared them with friends. The sharing brought me as much joy as when I took the photos. Friends expressed their gratitude and shared with me how they felt seeing them and they began to reflect on how the photo made them feel. I am now a nature photographer, bringing happiness to myself and to those who appreciate the pictures. A friend shared your video with me as he finds himself spiritually uplifted by my pictures. I loved hearing what you had to say. Thank you so much.

What a wonderful video! I am just working on a project „Photography in times of crisis“ and I mean not to take photos of a crisis but to come out of this crisisfeeling with photography. Your video somehow has the same subject. Photography in that way can take you out of depression. Thank you for this post. Photography opens your eyes.

At the time I started learning photography, I was told about the three levels of photography. The lowest is where you see nice looking pictures, whereas in the middle one pictures have a better presentation with a story in each of them. Above all at the top tier, you will find spiritual and philosophical elements within the photos which keep the images in your heart for long and lead you into another world. The video is well made, it is marvellous! Many thanks to Judy. I have seen your some other videos on KZread, hope you can make more of these excellent quality videos . Best wishes to you.

In viewing your videos which are second to none, I noticed a lot of jet black backgrounds, what do you use to achieve that wonderful background Thank you.

Thanks for your kind words, Hyman. It's a combination of things... I use a piece of black velvet over a black trifold display as a background, a few feet behind the subject. The "wings" of the display help keep light off the background. Very often I use a flash, and set my shutter speed at 1/200 or 1/250 to cut down the ambient light. Sometimes I'll have to burn a few areas, but often not.
