Going Deep In An Abandoned Mine For Priceless Minerals!

Hello everyone! This week was a crazy week! I did THREE explorations of the Union Mine that led to some of the coolest (mineral finds) yet and a whole new passion for me. I was joined by some super cool folks along the way and ended with some very valuable minerals and a whole new level of the Union Mine to explore!
A lot more abandoned mine explorations on their way!

Who knows what youll find in the bowels if you can make it farther than any before. We have better equipment these days. Its just sketchy man. I hope brett and crew keeps making it out of there. I dont many have ever been down so deep for a very very long time if ever. I just worry about big rocks falling. Or you look up and a rocm blinds you or dents your head in. Ground would have been a lot more solid back then & would have had sturdy & intact ladders everywhere. Would have been a lot easier to traverse back then then it is now. Small rocks falling has made the ground slippery gravel in the modern day partner that with the rot & collapsing of the ladder system makes it a lot more difficult.

I so love, how the "rock mineral community" came together in such a short period of time 💛 This is the kind of camaraderie I used to enjoy while gold prospecting. Everyone gathered and admired each other's findings, one would hear (elaborate) stories by seasoned miners, learn something, and before you knew it, hours had gone by while being immersed in a completely different world and state of mind. I'm so happy you experienced this with them - and also with your visitors Dan, Jason, and Scott. I wish you many more such wonderful and precious moments 🥰 PS: The cold weather and devastating winter storms affected many of us here in LA as well. It was depressing. But, today, on this sunny and warm Easter Sunday, I finally removed the Mylar emergency blankets from the drafty jalousie windows in my uninsulated 1960's apartment. It felt sooo good 🥰🌷🌞 Take care of yourself, Brent - I look forward to your next video.

It's always crazy and a little scary how complicated the mines are. I wonder how many people have gotten lost. Even more mind blowing though is how all those different tunnels mean all that ore and stone had to be hauled back out, imagine digging those little tunnels and having to get everything back to a cart or exit.

I knew that miners had it tough, but after seeing the actual mine shafts. I don't know how they could do it, day after day. Considering the equipment they had, it could have been a nightmare. I'm glad that you are enjoying the exploration and finding valuable minerals. I would like to visit some day. I guarantee I won't be wanting to go down the mine!

Wow Brent...all of what was in this video was SO COOL to see and learn about. We think you definitely SHOULD start taking small, medium and large mineral/rock specimens out of your mine and start 'The Cerro Gordo Jewelry And Gem Store', or something close to that. You could make a nice income to support restoring the town and making it into a true ghost town/old mining community tourist destination WHILE you get to explore the mine and find new spots with different ores, cool rocks and things left behind by the miners. You can have a win, win, win situation on your hands (a turnaround) by selling jewelry and specimens, which will ALSO get the word out and promote Cerro Gordo and what it has to offer people who want to see and experience it. ;)

Now that ive watched it , taping in to your local gemilogical society is a very valuable wealth of knowledge and genrally just good people. Glad you did that . I was a member of the diamond creek gemilogical society many years and walked in with a non descript chunk of rock i found and walked out with a piece of super 7 i had all along. They had all the tools and local know-how and where of what could be found in my patch of the world and after moving from that area years later i ended up living on a old gold mind in central Victoria called the wither and die mine , called that as no gold was ever found there but lots of interesting minerals where alluvial i was able to identify. You struck gold by going to see what you have and meeting some posible very valuable future friends.

Brent I have to say I’ve watched every episode from the very start. This is by far one of my favourite ones yet, I love everything about your channel but crystals/minerals are one of my favourite things in the world, while I am a pagan and also a witch I have an extensive collection of crystals myself. I live in south wales in the UK and boy what I would do to own some of the specimens from your mines, or even come to the ghost town would be an absolute honour for me. I’m glad your feeling better and look forward to seeing more videos. I cannot wait to see more about the American hotel and lots more, thank you for sharing it all with us 🫶🏼

WELCOME to the Club of no return, ROCK HOUNDING! One is too many, and 5,000 isn't enough! I pointed out to you years ago, when you explored one of the mines that lead out to the side of a mountain, that you had passed up some beautiful rocks along the way! I also suggested that you sell some of those rocks, I'm so happy that you're now considering it! I would LOVE to have a pretty rock from Cerro Gordo! I could keep it in the pocket of my Cerro Gordo hoodie sweatshirt! Rock hounding is a special passion of mine, but unfortunately, in my neck of the woods, my state doesn't offer much in the fabulous department. Nonetheless, I still go rock hunting whenever I can. I mainly collet various shades of Lucky Stones, (quartz), chert, flint, petrified wood, fossils, and Native-American artifacts. Great video, although when you're exploring on a rope, it makes my heart race. Am looking forward to your next video! Take care and God Bless.

I find it amazing that you have living at the mine for three years and are just now becoming a rockhound. I've been a rockhound living in California and Arizona since I was in grade school. I've owned many rock saws and Cab machines including a 12 inch saw now. This should bring a new fascination to your home that will keep you going for many more years. Maybe when the hotel opens up I can run your rock and mineral shop. ;)

Just finished the video on my TV and had to come back right away on my phone to comment. Literally one of my favorite videos. So interesting, beautiful and just unique. My names Brandon, I'm 29 from Chicago, IL. My grandfather and uncles have always been so interested in coins, gems and minerals for as long as they were alive. They may no longer be here but I've taken up the interest myself and it would be sick to get gifted the mineral you're graciously donating to a fan and admirer of this community. You are truly amazing and I love your work, its truly history being recorded. Much love man and God bless, keep exploring and maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to join you on one. Submitting my entry right now haha!

My father retired to Lone Pine when I was 16 in the early 70’s. That is when I first visited the Ghost town. I met some elderly people who lived there I was told that a lady lived there who made movies in Hollywood. I’m writing because when I was visiting my dad we went out to Owen’s Lake which was a puddle then in the late 70’s. I saw in this video the road looking down at the lake what appears to have water in the lake. In its day long ago before LA took the water the lake was huge. I’m told a steamer boat sank in the lake a hundred years ago or more with a huge treasure of silver from the mine that was never recovered. The lake played a big part in the story your preserving you need to look into it.
