Zamasu didn't really hate mortals until he met Goku. Zamasu hated Kaioshins philosophy to let things go and to let humans decide their fate without any real judgement before the end. To him , they are the rulers and the ones who can distinguish things fully. To give an exemple : in Goku and cie universe , Frieza wished to be Emperor of all of it one day , so did Cold. This could've be ended a while ago by South Kaioshin who claimed out loud in Buu Saga that he have enough power to one shot Namek Frieza. He didn't still. Then... what would've happen if South Kaioshin killed Frieza and his army soon enough ? No Radditz , no Vegeta , no Super Sayian at all and Goku would've stayed strongest human of the earth but for sure not good enough to match Gods. That's the real thing. When he met Goku , he just concluded that his theory was correct cause he found one instance of an human who is able to face the gods because they didn't solved crisis theirselves so instead an human succeded to ascended their level to do it himself which is blasphemy.

This story would've worked perfectly in the original. Owning up to the mistakes they've made. And also, beerus and whis were angry for bulma messing with time and then eventually just left it alone until beerus blew up the time machine. Would've made more sense if it was Gohan having a common motivation as beerus and them potentially setting up a story together regarding all the mess time travel made

He knew about frieza and did nothing, if he had done his job trunks wouldn't have needed to go back in time.
