    Yeah so as Evan said, the reason it's called Minus One is because Japan was put down to such a low state after the damage from the war, that it was set to "zero" basically. Then right when they start to rebuild what was lost, Godzilla appears and brings further destruction, setting Japan to an even lower point than after the war, down to "Minus One" or -1.0

    To fill in for y'all. This is an alternate sort of take of the first Godzilla. Godzilla was supposed to be some sort of monster that lived in the sea by a little island. American nuke tests irradiated him and he became radioactive and angry. In the original some backstory explains that he had a family of other monsters that all died in the bombing so he was angry due to that. The city attack scene reflected a lot of parts from the first Godzilla, like him attacking the train, the reporters and stuff. I loved this movie.

    17:39 - The atomic breath in this version of Godzilla has been equated to the overload of a nuclear reactor. The entire buildup to it has signs. The dorsal fins on his back are like cooling rods that keep his power in check. As they move out, the power starts to build up. He takes in oxygen, an essential fuel for combustion. The ‘rods’ jam back into place, causing a sudden reaction not unlike what happened in Chernobyl. Godzilla forcibly expels the condensed raw power (which seems to briefly damage himself in the process) and the result is a full on nuclear explosion, complete with a mushroom cloud.

  • @NateL1992

    @NateL1992

    I think it was portrayed beautifully this time around. Not sure if anyone else picked up on it, but its the same ability he displayed in GMK; the very first atomic breath he shot was akin to a nuke going off. Not sure if it was nearly as devastating, but the director definitely took the ability used once and formulated it around Godzillas atomic breath.

    Definitely the best written Godzilla movie for me in this franchise. I love how this movie is more of a psychological film that focuses on the guy’s failures and mental health as a WWII kamikaze pilot, and how it affected not just him but everyone else around him. Godzilla in his original roots is a radioactive monster who was created from the hardships of nuclear warfare. He only thinks and knows destruction. Also unlike the MonsterVerse movies, the human characters felt very realistic and their dialogue wasn’t corny either, you could actually connect with them. This version of Godzilla was way more menacing and savage than the one from MonsterVerse, since he’s not supposed to be a protector of Earth. Also couldn’t help but play Simon Says in my head every time they played his theme song.

    Honestly I’d say that this incarnation of Godzilla was not really portrayed as a villain, but more of a revengeful animal who was forced to live as a mutated creature because of the bombs that were dropped in the Bikini Atoll. So it’s more of him being like “tf happened to me?!” And less of him being a true villain. Not only that, but even the beginning was just him being more like an actual animal than villainous.

    In this Godzilla, they're pretty much remaking the 1954 movie… And they did amazingly wonderfully well! Not only the acting but the visual effects got an Oscar for this, that's right Godzilla minus one got an Oscar for visual effects. That means this Godzilla was so good that they had to give it an award at the 70 years you can't even look it up. It was definitely heartwarming. This Godzilla's atomic breath is unstable, he shoots out the nuclear energy. It concentrates in one spot and then boom a nuclear explosion. Godzilla's main purpose is to expand his territory, as well as make the humans pay for using such a tremendous power to hurt the very planet. He calls Home and that made him what he is. This movie is called Godzilla minus one, the Japanese had absolutely nothing after the two bombs hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki... just when they were about to get their life back Godzilla came and then they had less than nothing. He is pretty much the result of the lingering effects of not just World War II, but of the effects the two nuclear bombs had on the country. Also, Godzilla always had regenerative abilities. It may not have shown in the older movies, but the fact that he kept on walking and his body didn't look like they were scars whatsoever that he could heal extremely fast. In fact in Godzilla 2000 they pretty much explain how he was able to heal. The black mark on the women's neck the Director had said it was Godzilla cells

    Operation Crossroads was when the US was testing nuclear bombs at the bikini atoll, a series of islands much closer to Japan than America. IRL it caused mass relocation of residents of the area, with the inability to return due to the fallout, as well as a lot of concerns about radiation spreading in the ocean to Japan. In the movie these series of explosions are what end up mutating godzilla and causing it to rampage across Japan.

    The answer to your question about Godzilla’s purpose. Basically wants to destroy and punish humanity. When we first see him in his first form, Godzilla seemed to have contempt for humans but would only attack when provoked. Think of it like a cornered animal protecting his territory. Kind of like how Jason Voorhees and the shark from Jaws does. But once he mutated into his familiar form, his contempt turned into outright hatred and misanthropic. It’s implied that Godzilla blames humanity for his condition. That is why he seems very outlandishly violent and destructive. He wants to punish them for their hubris in a sense. Godzilla was not always seen as a “hero” or “anti-hero.” This went back to his more “villainous” roots. Hope this helped it a bit guys!

    Godzilla was based on the US post WW2 above ground nuclear tests in the Pacific. They had to the wrong weather information and the fallout fell onto a fishing vessel from Japan. The sailors made it back and all of them died. Godzilla is an allegory for the bomb. They were paying tribute and reinventing Godzilla as this unknown terror who gets super sized due to being near the atomic blasts.

    Godzilla has Cell Regeneration G1. Its similar to instant regeneration, he can even regenerate from a single surviving cell, took him 5~6 months to fully recover his shape but not completely his bodily function... give him 9 months give or take. Not even all monsters in GMK after reducing Godzilla into a mere heart can fully destroy him. The instance Toho Godzilla ever dies is when he was blown with an "Oxygen Destroyer" and Burning Godzilla as he went into Nuclear Meltdown, not even leaving a single cell as it crumbles into dust.

    I have a theory why Godzilla crumbled at the end. He's so big that gravity is constantly trying to squish him flat; the only reason he's still alive is that he's regenerating the damange all the time. This also explains why he's so angry (he's in constant pain). When Koinichi blew up his brain, there wasn't anything making Godzilla regenerate fast enough to counteract the effects of gravity.

I believe she def died but it attached to her (vlasted off of Zilla by tanks or the beief damage he does to himself with his heat ray) and regenerated her. Or at least saved her. Great reaction with amazing feedback and theories. Bravo.
