Many of the Japanese entertainment films up until Godzilla Minus One were "well done for a Japanese film," but Minus One is a film that can be confidently launched into the world. I'm very proud of that. Minus One is a monumental work for the Japanese film industry.

It’s not so much that Shikishima doesn’t want the responsibility of being a dad to Akiko, more that he doesn’t feel worthy of it due to having guilt and PTSD from not fulfilling his duties as kamikaze pilot and freezing up when about to fire the guns at Godzilla.

They were saluting Godzilla at the end. Part Japanese culture as a sign of respect to a worthy enemy, even in defeat, and the novelization of the movie says part apology, for it was humans who made him the way he was with their hubris and disrespect for his environment, dropping nukes on him. It unfortunately wasn't nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, but it should have been ( and I can't believe it wasn't even nominated for Best Foreign Film) and it should have won both as it was better than any of the dreck Hollywood put out. And I wish I had seen this after Godzilla X Kong. I tried to temper my expectations going in. I knew they were two different movies telling two different stories in two different ways, and while I enjoyed GXK for what it was, I still felt a little empty walking out of it. They spent that whole movie telling us about how Godzilla was powering up and how powerful he had become to take on some grave new threat - and when they finally got around to showing us anything, it was over in minutes and he seemed to have a fraction of the terrifying destructive power of this Godzilla. We are now in a post Godzilla -1 world.

The reason it walks slow is symbolic of the people who were exposed to extreme radiation, walking very stiff and slow, after the atomic bomb drops.

It's also realistic. Post mutated Godzilla is not used to Walking on land. It's spent all It's time in the Water. And if this Godziller were any bigger, he'd collapse under its own weight. So it definitely wpuld have a tough time walking.

It was a tribute to the men in the Godzilla suits prior to CGI. Unlike the first King Kong using stop animation.

this movie is a close second to the 1954 original, that one is very dear and special to me,and it'll always be on top,but I agree with you,I cannot give Minus One less than a 10/10,what an incredible piece of art! Also,a round of applause for you for loving both sides of the coin of Godzilla, how lucky are we to have them being graced on us in this golden period of Kaiju content,we should cherish it instead of using Minus One as a pretext to shit on the MonsterVerse, they're both valid and amazing on their own right! Fun fact: the black stain growing on Noriko's neck was confirmed to be a Godzilla cell by director Yamazaki, but that's all he said. Many of us are speculating it's the reason why Noriko survived, she might have regenerated herself thanks to that cell, who knows,we'll have to wait and see,if a sequel actually gets made, fingers crossed it does!

What's up, amigo? This is one of the best movies of 2023! Glad you finally got to see it. I saw it in theatres 4 times. As a Veteran of the GWoT, I totally identified with Shikishima. Goji was SOOO scary in this movie! I cried like a b***h every single time. Not afraid to admit it. GLAD it finally got an Oscar. Incredible movie!

The human story was so beautiful that it was truly terrifying every time he showed up. Saw this in theaters in 4DX and brought my Mom, though it was a bit intense for her with the extra movement we loved it. It was so intense. Ugh, first time I’ve ever been scared of Godzilla, the malice, revenge and terror he spread. Immaculate.

17:47 most incarnations of Godzilla have regeneration like Heisei Godzilla, Millennium Godzilla, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth, Godzilla Ultima even Monsterverse Godzilla has regeneration. Minus One Godzilla is 50.1 meter tall and Monsterverse Godzilla is 119.8 meters tall. Minus One Godzilla is comparable to 2001 GMK Godzilla for being the most evil Godzilla because both literally attacked people. Plus GMK Godzilla's Atomic breath also causes nuclear explosions.

I think the other reasoning Shikishima wanted Tachibana is no one that the Doc would find would agree to arming a bomb on the shinden to ram into godzilla, it goes against the whole team's ideals and if that mechanic would tell the Doc it would have been shutdown. The neck thing is probably that Noriko survived because she got godzilla cells in her that gave her regenerative abilities, probably singed parts of godzilla when he nuked Ginza, the debrees probably had bits of him.

When the ships dragging the cable turned towards each other they had to get as close as possible (and risk taking collision damage) for the ship to be able to get under the crane holding the cable, otherwise it probably would have cut the cable or at least damaged the ship propeller.

I realize this may be a very unpopular opinion however, I honestly think this is the best Godzilla ever made. Even better than the original, 1954 version. Every major and minor character has a good character arc.

1954 is almost has good. The only weak spot is the effects. But its still great. Not knocking the effects. Their is always room dor improvement those are the 2 greatest godzilla films. But i haven't seen shin godzilla yet! Which i heard so much about. Both godzilla minus one and shin godzilla both won many japanese academy awards in including best picture!

What to do now. Watch it again ignoring the subtitles. Notice the Japanese Zero landing on the fictional Odo Island, home of the great Japanese monster "Gojira". Research the "Tokyo Fire Bombing on March 10th, 1945". Which the premise of the movie is about. The survivors of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing". Mankind's worst, it had more casualties & lost in history to the Hiroshima Bomb. As it rained fire on the civilians of Tokyo. The "Black Market" scenes with the vendors, hustlers & prostitutes to introduce Noriko & Akiko to Koichi is brilliant. The date March 1946, it's raining heavily, marking the one (1) year anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing". Ironically, Koichi is drenched in rain water instead of fire. As he shares finding steady work; a turning point. Another date is the sinking of the "Takao". It's sudden bombarding of Godzilla is ironic, as the "Takao" was offshore in the surprise attack of Pearl Harbor. On March 10th, 2024, the 79th anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing", Takashi Yamazaki & crew was awarded the Oscar in Hollywood California. Takashi Yamazaki tells a great Japanese post WWII story using the great Japanese fictional monster "Gojira", that people wouldn't be interested in anyway. Harley Davidson, Koichi's "Black Market" motorcycle, and the Japanese Imperial Army was a surprise discovery. As well as many others, which are factual. The last line Noriko looks to the side of the camera and says, "Is your war.......now finally over?" I read in Japan, after the movie, people applauded.

Director said Godzilla's movement are not slow per se, but movement our minds can not comprehend for being so unique; the movement of a God. Not that goofy corny ass American WWE shit for children. I believe a great scholar once said: "Godzilla might've moved slow, but that's because Godzilla didn't have to move for nobody."
