Gods on Parade: Special Tradition in rural China

Hi. I'm Leah. This video is about the New Year's "Gods on Parade" tradition in the Chaoshan area of Guangdong Province. Even though this event happened 3 months ago, the vibrant atmosphere still lingers in my mind, and I couldn't wait to share the experience with you.
In this video, you'll see the "Yingge Dance," the decorations, and the people following the parade. I'll also explain the cultural background along the way.

Thanks for sharing Leah! I recently discovered my home village in Chaoshan and the family ancestral shrine had paintings of these gods on the doors which was very cool

    Can you write Cantonese subtitles?

Hi. Yes I can write some. But Cantonese requires some rare characters to express certain words, so we tend to use Chinese text instead.

@@leahchen07 Hi, sorry for my bluntness. I think my comment disappeared. Please disregard my request for written Cantonese. I just asked my friend from Guangdong if she types in Cantonese -- the reply was no, just Mandarin. It's an excellent video, I watched it thoroughly.

@@djt-lu8tw Yeah, Mandarin is much easier for texting. Thank you sooooo much for watching this video!
