    I have three of the mark 1 TT685c’s and I use them for two purposes: 1) cheap yet effective accent lighting on run and gun/mobile portrait shooting and concert/show photography 2) event shooting with extensive flash use. One of the key features this flash (mark 1 and 2) has above the 860 line is the external battery cord/high-voltage port just above the hotshoe, which turns this flash into a rapid firing, all-day lasting speedlight in combination with the same Godox battery pack that powers the ad360. This flash weighs less and is much smaller than the ad360, yet it still gives all of the necessary flash power while being compatible with Magmod and other accessories. I rarely use my ad360 nowadays since it is usually overkill with modern MILCs. The TT685c is the perfect event package where you need power, rapid recycle time and all-day, dependable battery life. I use this flash in my “paparazzi” configuration along with my R3 and stroboframe pro-t bracket when I know I will be shooting rapidly with flash for events or run and gun action.

    With the 685 you have the ability to use an external battery pack (AA rechargeables). As a wedding shooter I can get close to 2000 shots on the internal batteries plus a battery pack and I get recycle times around a second.

    Excellent review, thank you! Will either of these units work in TTL or automatic mode with the Nikon Zfc? I just want something basic where I can set the f/stop on my camera and flash and let the flash adjust the output as needed... like my old Vivitar 283 flash. Does TCM do that? So many dang acronyms to try to understand.

  • @DustinAbbottTWI

    I think that if you get the Nikon version it should. I don't shoot Nikon, but typically the reason for individualized versions of these flashes is to tailor the TTL protocol to the maker.

    A very good informatic video review! I use 3pieces of TT685 N for my day time outdoor portrait shoot as FILL FLASH & Hair Light/ back light with octa type softbox in main key/ fill flash set and a snoot or 44cms reflector in back light set. I prefered the TT685 over the V860 as, I can get two TT685 in one V860 Price, the AA Rechargeable batteries in fact are more advantageous as I can carry as much sets of batteries as I need, but the Li Ion battery is too costly and not easily available. For portrait shoot, a slight difference in recycling timing doesn't make much difference. I have the TT 685 previous version and got to know from your review that the locking system in the new Mark II version seems not very reliable. Please throw some light on this issue, as I was interested to buy another set of the new Mark II version of TT685N.

    I have three of the v1c’s which use the new mechanism and haven’t had any problems with the durability or tension- seems to be pretty effective at maintaining a positive lock and solid hot shoe connection. If anything it is an improvement where I used to overtension the locking ring and would need a strap or pliers to get the speedlight off.

  • @DustinAbbottTWI

    I think the angst over the hotshoe tensioner is overstated. It may feel flimsy...but I've never had an issue with one yet.

    I don't actually have any connection to Westcott, unfortunately. Often my reviews are somewhat dependent on connections to companies or retailers..and these days it is often them that initiates that contact.

    I have the Godox TT685 II S with the Xpro-S trigger. Can recommend 100%. Why this trigger? you can remotely adjust the zoom per group, so per flash if you have multiple. Why this flash and not the cheaper TT600? You can't remotely adjust the zoom on the TT600. I'm looking for a small led light I can attach to it as a modeling light.

    Very nice review. I am looking into this godox system and since I already have some Canon flashes I was considering the X1r-c and X2t combination. However, the receiver for canon is practically impossible to get. So I was considering changing my flashes to these Godox TT685II to get the wireless functionality. Does anyone know whats the issue with this X1r canon receivers?

    Is Wireless Operation changed - specifically the Optical Pulse (TTL/Manual), no longer an option on this unit, as it is in the TT685. Indicated by the lightening bolt. And what’s the latest firmware, mine reads v1.1. Using it on a Canon 90D.

  • @DustinAbbottTWI

    @DustinAbbottTWI

    Жыл бұрын

    I think the answer to that is yes. What varies would be the contacts for getting TTL between a Sony and a Canon, but if you are using the flash off-camera, you are eliminating that variable...I think. You might want to ask Godox first.
