I love the bare bulb suggestion! I also spray-painted the 'beauty dish' reflector white (softer light, less edge fall-off). I made a 1/4 CTO gel sleeve to slip over the the flash tube 'warming up' the color rendition. (It does have to be removed before closing the flash).

This is the best video review for this flash. Not sure why there is so little content about it other than from Vietnam or Asian creators? It looks like an amazing flash and I can’t wait to get one. It reminds me of the Norman 400 bare bulb flash that we used to use on location back in the mid-90s, which worked so well.

This works on all my retro-styled cameras: Olympus Pen F, Fuji X20, Fuji X-T30, Fuji X-M1. The photos have that retro 90s look and it looks super cool atop these bodies! Love it!

Just ordered one of these to use with an old Rollieflex 3.5B (MX-EVS) Twin Reflex Camera, even though I have I Rollieflash that works though it took a while to find a 22.5V Battery, P25B Flash Bulbs are hard to find and not cheap on Ebay. Look forward to trying it out, I assume if you mount it on a Flash Bracket with a Hot shoe attachment you will need to put a piece of paper under the flash terminal? Great video, thanks for sharing. - Jeff

Yes, but only if you have issues. I have tried it both ways and not had an issue. If the "hot shoe" is an actual hotshoe with center pin firing for xflash that is not connected to the camera somehow (via pv cable) then yes. You will need paper under the connection. If it is a regular cold show, like what's on most flash brackets, thent ou shouldn't have an issue. If you do, just use paper. Godox even included this information in the manual. Good stuff.

@@RobertHamm Thanks for the reply, I don't get my flash until this Sunday but downloaded the manual and looked at pictures of the flash and I see something I don't like if I were to use this on a modern camera (which I am not). If I am in Manual Mode and I line up the distance in Feet with the ISO number it will tell me how much flash power I would use dependent upon the f-stop but this is limited to 4 meters. If I am say shooting at any distance beyond 13.12 feet (4 meters) I have to calculate my settings using the tables in the owners manual. If the display was a LCD panel where you input the ISO select a f-stop desired and get a distance for that setting or put in the distance and get the f-stop that would be versatile but to have to pull out a table is not convenient at all. Plus not being a TTL flash if your distance was 20 feet and you were at full power at ISO 100 at f2.8 your range is 16 feet, at f2.0 it is 22.96', if I use that setting I would be overexposed, correct? Would Flash exposure compensation in camera work on this flash? Like I said this is great for old cameras where you are shooting portraits and within the 4 meters, anything beyond that is a bit of a guessing game it seems. What's your opinion.

I cringed each time you touched the bulb with your bare finger(s). According to GoDox, that's a no-no! We're supposed to put a cloth over the bulb before pressing it in to avoid getting grease from our flesh on the bulb. Otherwise this was an interesting video for me as I own both of these Lux flashes. I'll try shooting more without the beauty dish employed, thanks....

Yeah, maybe 40 years ago. The bulb is inside of a glass container. there s absolutely no issue with touching these tubes as you are not touching the actual flash tube. Also, the high temperatures are not present on the glass I am touching because, again, I'm not touching the tube. No bare bulb strobes in production today allow you to touch the actual flash tube component. That is to say, all current production flash strobes from Godox/Flashpont are fine to handle with bare fingers.

In the user's manual it says: "...press the flash tube down with gloves on...." Other videos recommend using your shirt or a cloth of some kind, e.g., lens cleaning cloth, on the flash tube to press it in. It has nothing to do with the temperture of the flash tube; it is to keep grease from our hands off the flash tube. You may wish to READ YOUR USER'S MANUAL before making videos like this one....

Old dogs should learn new tricks. Just look at the design. It's a tube in a tube. No harm is done to the flash tube because it's protected by the outer tube. Learn some new tricks my man. Years of programming has touched you deep.

How strange to talk about such awesome devices today in the digital age. In the past, it was quite normal that a flash worked on any camera. what a poor digital world. you could buy a flash and then use it for the rest of your life. Today, the industry tells us what we can use and when.

You may have misunderstood some parts of my video. The reason the Godox Senior does not work with the Mini Evo Camera is because the Mini Evo DOES NOT have a hot shoe. That's not the problem of the flash, it's a problem with the camera. The camera does not support the use of external flash. You CAN USE the Godox Senior on any Hotshoe and it will work just fine.
