Turned 65 last year and you are absolutely correct.

I was blown away by the song and then I saw the film clip as a teenager. Groundbreaking at the time. And still very original today ✨

I remember this playing on the radio in the background of my dad’s car painting shop. Oh how I miss him.

Firstly, thank you Jose Mourinho for winning the treble for us interisti. Secondly, I recommend you watching Miami Vice. One of the best scenes had this song in the background...such a timeless TV show. It was the main inspiration for GTA Vice City, and was also featuring the voiceover of Philip Michael Thomas as Lance Vance, aka "Ricardo Tubbs" on Miami Vice.

I remember watching this on repeat playing on a loop in Dixon’s electrical store in the 80’s as a child I was mesmerised by the changing faces. Now as an adult I’m mesmerised again but understand the lyrics much more now. Sometimes you have to live a life before the lyrics reach into your heart and have meaning.

What a gorgeous song. I've loved it since it was released.

The song is beautifully sad. But the video is amazing, too. It's one of my all time favorites, and it deserves to be in a museum for video art.

The music of the early to mid 80's had a sound like it came from the future. It still does.

re-introducing myself to this song 38 years later - - - - - and NOW is when I find myself really immersing INTO it. wow.

This song always sticks with me due to the video accompanying it. For whatever reason, way back in the 80s, I was a kid in a local electronics store in the UK (probably Dixons or similar) where they were showcasing the "latest" Laser Disc players, and one of the setups had this playing on a loop. I remember being mesmerised by the (at the time) amazing crystal-clear picture quality and the seamless transitions between the faces, not to mention the song itself was very captivating. It's stuck with me for 40 years at this point. Something very haunting, yet fascinating about the melody and visuals. Brilliant.

Best video of all time. No contest.

I remember being 8 years old sitting on the rug in front of the tv and this came on the Saturday morning kids show in1985. I was blown away... never heard it again for 30 years or so and looked it up from that vague memory. Awesome tune.

I was driving to Francis McReary's funeral in GTA IV and this was playing. Coincidence?

I suppose we all have a certain bias towards our own favourite period of music & mine was the 80’s. It’s amazing how certain songs have the power to transport you to a certain time in your life & generate so much emotion.💚

I feel your pain fella. I was dating a girl when this album came out, she bought me a copy. She left me when she went off to uni and I was totally heartbroken, this track takes me right back to that time. Also #7 Is like Mr T. Don’t think it is.

I've loved this song since its release and every time I come across it I listen and watch in awe, it's a brilliant video and was groundbreaking at its release. I imagine myself sitting on a park bench "people watching" as the world goes by which I do enjoy, then goodness gracious me, Trevor Horn passes by, what a genious. ❤

I remember this, one of the first videos that got out of the system of MTV by doing this....how wonderful. it's a masterpiece.

Why does this have less than half a million views? Truly memorable and what must be one of the absolutely defining videos ever made.

This video was achieved the old way, by using actual film. One of the greatest achievements in the history of video.

Two of the most forward thinking, creative people who ever got into the arts. I've lived and loved all through their careers and always been amazed and impressed. I thank them both for everything.

Trevor Horn's face is the second to last face in the video, another legendary British music producer!

They wrote most of the music of my youth, still outstanding now even after all these years.

Great Song. Great video. The video concept and technique had been used by the Australian band The Reels in their song "Shout and Deliver" four years earlier in 1981. Godley and Creme were able to refine the technique with newer technology. And then Michael Jackson too it to another level with "Black and White" in 1991.

I've always loved this song and remember how impressive the long sequence of carful iris wipes and spot dissolves was back in the mid 80s. On a bit of a nostalgia trip, I just realized that the last guy to say, "Cry!" is the front man from the Buggles and founding member of Art of Noise, Trevor Horn. A little googling tells me he was actually the producer for the song, along with lots of other great 80s bands!

Came here via 'Professor of Rock - My Top 5 80s Hidden Gems That Were One Hit Wonders' - it's his #1 - rightfully so (I guess there are many more though...), also because of the video, which was mesmerizing - and he mentions Horn - forgot he was in The Bugles and Art of Noise - great bands too! Rewatching the video after decades (having it seen 'endlessly', as MTV just started in Europe), I remembered most of the faces - the girl at 1:54 being gorgeous!

Wonderfully creative guys, G&C; sort of a strange blend between The Residents and Simple Minds.

“Perfection” is what this song is, I believe.
