God Was Not Your Father, Sunday Service, June 16, 2024, 10:00 a.m. CDT

Rev. Kathleen Rolenz | Charlie Caswell, Isaac Fried and Chris Russert, worship associates
Fatherhood has changed a lot since the first celebration of Father’s Day in 1910, as have ideas about masculinity. Our worship associates will reflect on their own experiences of fathers, and the joys and the challenges of navigating maleness amidst a culture that insists on binary thinking.
Join other Unity Church congregants for informal conversation at an online coffee hour after the service. Contact Philippa Anastos at philippa@unityunitarian.org for the link to join each Sunday when the live-streamed service ends.

Unity Church resides on the homelands of the Dakota Nation. We honor with gratitude the people who have stewarded the land throughout the generations and their ongoing contributions to this region. We acknowledge the ongoing injustices that we have committed against the Dakota Nation, and we wish to interrupt this legacy, beginning with acts of healing and honest storytelling about this place.
Mad Dads serves the inner city community of Minneapolis with integrity and dedication by providing community safety protocols along with positive youth programming and job creation. Its core program is violence intervention and interruption, treating violence as a disease which Mad Dads confronts face to face and works tirelessly to prevent its spread in the community. Mad Dads' youth empowerment club nurtures attitudes and skills that promote relationship, respect, resiliency, and responsibility. Donate at bit.ly/sundayoffering
Worship associate Charlie Caswell is a third generation Unitarian Universalist and has been attending Unity Church since the early 1980s. For most of that time he has sung in the choir and is an original Unity Singer. He lives in Shoreview with his wife Anne, two cats, and varying numbers of their four boys, all raised in the church. Charlie is about to retire from a long actuarial career and is already getting overcommitted at Unity and elsewhere. In his free time he tends to bike too much.
Isaac Fried was raised in Unity Church and is thrilled to be joining the Worship Associates program this year! After graduating from Carleton College in 2023, he completed his teaching license at Saint Olaf and now works in Saint Paul Public Schools teaching seventh grade math. When he isn't working he enjoys reading and spending time with friends.
Worship associate Chris Russert has been a member of Unity Church since October 2023, first attending in December 2022. He is active in Unity’s Young Adults group and Chalice Circles. A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, Chris graduated from Minnesota State-Mankato in 2021 with a degree in Political Science and Urban Studies, and now works with affordable housing programs. In his free time, Chris enjoys exploring new restaurants, reading historical novels, learning Spanish, and experiencing Latin American cultures.
