God's Word, Accomplishing God's Purposes | Isaiah 55:6-13

In this final reflection on Advent, Prof. N.T. Wright draws together the beginning and ending of the servant song in Isaiah 40-55 through the theme of God’s word and its surety. The Advent story is the ultimate story of God’s word going out to accomplish God’s will. As John 1 reminds us, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
PEOPLE OF PROMISE
People of Promise: Reflecting the Rhythms of Advent examines Old Testament passages that showcase how God kept the promises made to Israel, challenging us to rethink these promises with Jesus at their center.
People of Promise video devotionals arrive every Monday through the liturgical seasons of Lent, Eastertide, and Advent. Make sure you like the video and subscribe to our channel so you never miss a single one.

@@NTWrightOnline Thankyou for your kind words. My husband died 3 months ago after 42 years as a Parish priest. I was ordained (in NZ) in 1984 and was his co-vicar until we retired 13 years ago. I have read some of your books, and now finding great satisfaction especially from you teaching at Fuller where Martin got his Doctorate in Ministry. I listen to your lectures 3 or 4 times a week and your shorter readings each night. It helps the deep grief I have from Martin's passing. Thankyou.

Our team at N.T. Wright Online extend our condolences on the recent passing of your husband, Martin. We are moved to hear about the incredible 42-year journey he shared as a Parish priest, alongside your dedicated co-vicarship. We are encouraged to know that N.T. Wright's teachings at Fuller, where Martin earned his Doctorate in Ministry, continue to provide comfort during this difficult time. Finding solace in listening to the lectures and readings nightly is a testament to your strength and resilience, which are admirable. We hope these resources offer ongoing support in the days ahead. ~Charleen at N.T. Wright Online

Thank you for your question to Prof. Wright. Currently, he is semi-retired, dedicating time to family and several book projects, which limits his ability to respond to questions here. However, we encourage you to share your question on our Engaging Theology Discussion Forum www.admirato.org/products/communities/discussion. There are people there who could offer great suggestions.

Grief can't be gotten around... it has to be experienced but rest assured God walks thru it with you and has promised that death has been defeated and all things will be new again... hold in to His promises... know He won't let you go... Praying you experience God's comfort and peace. I lost my husband 14 years ago in Jan... I still miss him, but God has been with me and I believe He has a special place in His heart for widows.. He knows how difficult it can be.. and I think He provides an extra portion for us because of it ❤

There's an old saying: you never get over it, you just get through it. We have to walk through the valley and there's no shortcut but we have a shepherd who cares for us and will never abandon us. Sometimes we have to be carried until we're strong enough. It's unbelievable how many people I know who struggle with Christmas because they have lost someone. I think there is a place amongst all the celebration for a Christmas service of reflection and memory. I pray you get through this.

Don't you think, Dr. Wright, that the two-edged sword that comes out of the mouth of the Lamb would be like putting a knife to the neck of the fallen gods, whether they have flesh or not? It is that feeling that you are going to die and suffer because no one escapes from God. If anyone wants to take note, let them take it.
