God's Architect: How Gaudí Designed the Sagrada Familia

The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia has been in construction for more than 140 years. Today we explore this structure just as architect Antoni Gaudí conceived it before his death in 1926.

Once on holiday I visited the Sagrada Familia and the Casa Milo, although La Sagrada Familia is by far my most favourite piece of architecture on earth, Casa Milo was also a great visit with its interesting roof design made out of bricks. I would love a video of yours concerning this other creation of Antoni Gaudi. If you haven´t been there already, go see it, I can recommend it very much :)

@@ThinkAboutVic You appear to have problems with spelling and sentence structure, but, as far as I can tell, you are asking a question based upon a false premise. Of course, it will be used. I am not Roman Catholic, and I know that Spain is a divided society with a large proportion of the population militantly aetheist and/or militantly anti-Catholic. That said, there are millions of Catholics in Spain and hundreds of millions across the World. Many of the faithful will visit La Sagrada Familia, not as tourists but by way of pilgrimage. Many services are held there, even today whilst construction continues. The number of services will increase as construction nears its' end. It WILL, therefore, be USED by large numbers of the faithful and will be SEEN by many more. Read the comments by those, many of them tourists ticking down the "things to do" list, who say that they were, many of them unexpectedly, I am sure, INSPIRED. Huge numbers of tourists are and will continue to flock there making La Sagrada Familia a nice little earner for the Roman Catholic Church. A little piece of advice. People will have more respect for your arguements if you express yourself without the Beavis and Butt-Head vulgarity.

Great video! Some extra reading: it's true that Gaudi knew he would not see the building completed in his lifetime, which is why he left lots of drawings and models for reference. But on July 18 1936 during the Spanish civil war, a gang of radicals broke in and destroyed virtually all of Gaudi's work, along with a failed attempt to bomb the Nativity facade. The continuation of it's construction was debated following the end of the war, ultimately deciding to proceed. Much of the building was designed by students of Gaudi and what knowledge was left in the rubble, with the Passion facade being completed in the 1970s. Architect Mark Burry studied Gaudi in Barcelona and designed the interior in the 90s using aeronautcal engineering software Podcast 99% Invisible have a great episode all about Gaudi's life and the Sagrada Familia, definetely worth a listen :)

I mean, Gaudí's life reflect his intent with the basilica, he only lived to see the first facade finished, died when the second on was being made, and when the last one is finished, his work will forever mark him as one of the besst architects to ever live. Inspirational and a bit of a coincidence.

I've also been to this piece of masterclass architecture, the la Sagrada Familia is just the most symbolic, beautiful and magnificent building i've ever seen in my life. I'm sure nothings even gonna come close to gaudis perfection and the wonderfull work of the architects dedicaded ti the Sagrada after him. I can truly and most passionatly advise annyone to visit the cathedral. Thank you very much for this indeph look :))

Just saw it today, I felt it as I was going up the stairs from the metro station and you come right there. Dont need to be religious to get the shivers from the scale and beauty.
