As a physics student I want to clarify something. Higgs boson does not give mass to any particle. Its the Higgs field that is responsible for the mass of elementary particles.Note that the term elementary particle is important. For example an electron is an elementary particle while a proton is not(because it is made up of quarks). The existence of Higgs boson confirms the existence of the Higgs field which is responsible for the mass of elementary particles. There is one more particle which is undiscovered yet and that is Graviton.

During the collision of these particles, the energy generated is not greater, in fact it's exactly what is supposed to be if you do the calculations, factoring all the variables and such enormous speed of the particles. In fact the primary reason for the creation of LHC was to verify the string theory which if I have to put it in simple words mean that if you smashed two particles at light speed and calculate the energy output before and after collision, there should be a slight difference in the resultant energy that is energy should be lower after collision which will basically prove some energy escaped in one of these tiny dimension postulated by string theory thus resulting in experimental proof string theory needs for accepted as unified field theory.

Energy of a particle actually increases as it starts moving. As the protons move with nearly equal to the speed of light the energy of the particles become tremendously high resulting in formation of exotic new particles after the collision. By mass, he is referring to the "rest mass" i.e, the mass of the particle when it's at rest.

I will try to explain a little bit more. Consider wi-fi. It is a field spread around in a room. Just like magnetic field exists around a magnet and you can detect it. Similarly, This whole universe consists of several fields such as Electric field, magnetic field etc. One such field that exists in all of the universe is Higgs field. Higgs field was just a theory only on paper. No proof of it. So to prove that higgs field exists, LHC (Large Hadron collider) at CERN, Geneva was formed. Now real question : How to prove that a field exists? Simple. Take sub atomic particles like protons and smash them into one another. This process will create ripples in the wave of higgs field and it did. One such ripple is called higgs boson. What is the purpose of Higgs field in the universe? Higgs field gives mass to everything in universe. The fact that you have mass is because the atoms inside you are interacting with the higgs field. How is this related to vedanta? Vedanta says fundamentally Brahman exists as a field and everything around us is mere ripples or vibrations of the field. Feel free to post thoughts or questions.

@@placeboeffect7031 The story goes that Nobel Prize-winning physicist Leon Lederman referred to the Higgs as the "Goddamn Particle." The nickname was meant to poke fun at how difficult it was to detect the particle. It took nearly half a century and a multi-billion dollar particle accelerator to do it. Edit: This is what I found on Google. The comments said that it is present everywhere that's why they named God particle but this is the reality.

The name boson was coined by Paul Dirac to commemorate the contribution of Satyendra Nath Bose, an Indian physicist and professor of physics at the University of Calcutta and at the University of Dhaka, who developed, in conjunction with Albert Einstein, the theory characterising such particles, now known as Bose-Einstein statistics.
