I think this game might be the last time we see Kratos (unless he gets to be a cameo) and in the next game we will play as Atreus in a different land with a new set of gods

Calling it now, next game features Kratos returning to Greece with Mimir. Athena’s still a loose end from the Greek saga. I think that making amends with her would be a great way to cap off Kratos’ journey. I mean, people often consider Ares to be emblematic of Sparta. Of warriors and bloodlust. Likewise, Athena is considered the patron god of Athens. Of philosophers and wisdom. Kratos acts less like a Spartan and more like an Athenian as the Norse saga goes on. If Kratos’ journey of ascension as a god began with his going out to kill Ares, it would be a perfect bookend for that ascension to be complete with saving Athena. It would also be a way to use the more spiritual nature of post-Valhalla Kratos as a plot point instead of just treating him like some sort of superhero. Do with Athena what he did with Freya. Show the duality of Kratos as a worthy heir to both Ares and Athena’s seats, better than both. Make it so that Kratos, in his enlightenment, becomes more than “a” god of war and becomes “the” god of war.

Kratos wasn't one dimentional at any time. Kratos has always been a multi faceted character. From combat prowess to intelligence, from empathy for his daughter to caring about others like Athena. But a few people claim that he was a raged simpleton and one sided before the Norse Saga. That's completely false. Yes. Kratos gotta be one of the most misunderstood protagonists in videogame history. There was always more nuance and more sides to this character - other than being an one man army in murder everything that moves mode - than many people give it credit for. Kratos was not born a monster. He was made a monster. And the less he has to lose, the more reckless he became. Is Kratos an asshole or an tortured soul? He is an asshole, because he is an tortured soul, like Santa Monica used to say way back in the day. More like a good old greek tragedy, which was actually quoted on the back cover of God of War 2005. He sure as Hades was never meant to be everybody's darling and i always loved that. Like the anti-hero take was very bold at the time.

the idea that kratos was one dimensional IGN level purple haired dumb take. It isn't and has never been true. It's the kind of take that people think they are supposed to say, but haven't thought it out. It stems from the original games being unapologetically violent and masculine, with some T and A scenes. Every hack has to say he was OnE DiMeNsIoNaL in 2023 hackery essays.

True, instead of elaborating much about this I feel the devs decided to somehow emasculate kratos in ragnarok, they really handled kratos well in 2018 until they shifted their direction and decided to americanize him and the characters around him in which made the game feel kinda generic and losing mystique

I like how they bring back Pandora into this with hope because to me she was the first character in the franchise that made us ( at least me ) see a side of Kratos that was rarely seen or not seen at all during those first 3 god of war games like the dude was a complete killing machine that couldn’t be reasoned with until she came along

@@lesangpro It’s hinted at in my comment that I didn’t see Chain of Olympus or Ghost of Sparta before god of war 3 so growing up I only saw the first main 3 God of War games so yeah Kratos to me was also a one dimensional killing machine until Pandora came into the scene and sure Kratos had a sad back story and reason for the way he was but again this was a guy who killed innocents without a second thought

I've had this idea for the premise of the next game: Egyptian gods invade the Nine Realms fearing Kratos and his potential, now that 2 "kings" of 2 different pantheons have been slain by him. Kratos defeats and spares every single god, but Ra refuses to listen to him.

If there’s such a category, this wins DLC of the year. Or even Game of the year. I wonder if this was what was left over (cut) from the original game after the deadline was met last year and they polished and finished it just to release it to the public for free. Regardless, and with no intentions to take away from the effort they put into this, I am grateful for their hard work, filming and acting, software development, writing, animating, directing, everything they put into this DLC. Thank you Santa Monica Studios. This DLC has only put another node in the journey of masculinity. The disciplined young Spartan who became a soldier after emerging out of the Agoge, then became a fierce Spartan commander, ambitious to face the Persian Horde, became a servant of the gods, then a vengeful god-killer, and a parent who was CALM but had violence brewing. He learnt to control his rage and skill, raised a good young man, and now is confronting his past mistakes to learn that even in his reckless actions, he was conscious enough to do some good and now is a better man who would put all he knows to the service of others. This is a good example to boys and young men around the world. Hone your strength, mistakes, good deeds, flaws and have hope such that each day you press forward to not be sorry, but be better.

Fyi: he was already a parent when he was a spartan commander. But as you know he killed his wife and daughter in the first game.

This was a fitting end to a long journey for a character a fanbase and a dev team that care so much for who this person is and has become ... Kratos has earned a well deserved rest and whatever hapends in the future will be in good hands without him having to be the one fighting and struggling

@@zacktipate9343 Well, As I said before….The Games don’t have to follow the Actual Mythology to a Tee (It already doesn’t). And besides, THIS Loki’s character is not that of Anarchy or Endless pain. If he sees something going Right, He wouldn’t step in and say ‘Welp, This is way too similar and stable…time to destroy it’. He could be the God of Peace/God of Giants/God of Knowledge…Etc

When Kratos said “We have suffered enough.” Before we charged asgard, I felt like he was talking to us too. And the ending of this DLC feels like it’s a true calm to his storm.

I really like what they did with this DLC. It really shows Kratos finally making peace with himself after everything he’s done and coming to really, truly accept that he is not the man, the monster he was in Greece. In regards to the next game, I think it will still be a Mile Morales like spin off for Atreus where we get to see where his travels in search of other giants have taken him. But at the same time, I think it might be possible that Sigrun could get a DLC in that same game where we get to see where her travels have taken her.

Imagine a game where, you get the choice between Atreas and Sigrun at the start, and they both have unique journeys through Egyptian mythology, each having their own playstyles and getting to the same endpoint, and then after you beat the game as 1 you can play as the other

Or perhaps even something similar to Spider-Man 2, where the player goes back and forth between the two stories throughout the game, playing both characters’ stories simultaneously. One thing I was also actually thinking about recently that could potentially happen, is that since we’re potentially going to be following Sigrun in her own story, we might actually get to see what Sigrun looks like without her helmet, actually putting a face to her name.

I see this game going many places in the next chapter of Kratos. When Tyr pulled out different weapons from his travels across the realms, those weapons were such a significant factor and I know Santa Monica put those in for a reason.

Nah Kratos story is finished. This was his final chapter and it all came full circle. The only reason they gave Tyr those weapons was to build on the foundation god of war 2018 made. That Tyr travelled the entire world and brought many things back home, inclusing weapons he uses

5:57 I really wanted the final boss fight to be against Young Kratos, reconciling with the past.

Kratos is such a well written character, I was in legit awe after finishing the DLC. I can't accept the fact that this series will be over one day, legit grew up with it (the first GOW was literally the first game i've ever played).

I love Kratos, but at the moment his journey is at an end. He has fought hard for this newfound peace and it is time he helped the realms rebuild rather than destroy. I foresee the following games being focused on Atreus, and maybe subsequent dlcs about Sigrun.

He is the new Norse God of War. I don't think his journey is at an end at all. He is finally done struggling with his past and has a new focus for the future. I think we'll see him journeying to other realms like Tyr only to find new conflicts there.

@@happyjam92 They made it a point that he and Freya are going to rebuild the realms now. He is also getting older too. His “journey” from our perspectives is at an end, in that Atreus is picking up where he left off.

It would have been great if Athena appears in his memory in Valhalla and there would be some conservation between them !!

Greatest character development of all time

My hopes are that kratos gets a message from Atreus either through sigrun or a new god and the only way for kratos to enter new lands is by travelling back thru Greece and on to Egypt-or what ever other lands the want to do maybe kratos could even Visit multiple pantheons in one game making him have to travel back thru Greece just to reach a new country would be a good way for players and kratos to see what has happen since he left maybe we could even get hints that atreus has explored his fathers homeland seeing the result of his fathers choices but knowing that he has changed and that could also lead into Atreus storyline of finding the giants what if they’re just hiding out in Egypt or Mexico 😂

Man this was a great analysis. Thought a lot of these things playing through myself, it was crazy how much I felt I could relate. This DLC was very unique but gave me all the answers I wanted from the main campaign

It would be cool if the next game starts with Sigrun, kind of like Miles Morales, where its a small kinda side game, she goes to another pantheon, and while she is there she stumbles upon an older, maybe 18-20 year old Atreus that has gained many more abilities and has grown stronger, along with growing a familiar scar that his late uncle, Deimos had, you play as both, as allies, and Sigrun leaves when she finds what she needed, but Atreus finds himself fighting a god, which is tough for him, and leaves him injured but alive, so Sigrun travels back to Norway, to not only reunite with Mimir, but let Kratos know that his son is fighting gods, and may need help, so that sets up the next game where Kratos leaves his new throne, and travels to save his son and not let him go on the path of a monster, and eventually, Kratos gives Atreus the Leviathan Axe, and you get to use it now as Atreus, but with some new abilities, once Atreus is ok, Kratos leaves and goes back to his new throne, and Atreus is left with the Axe, and still on his adventure of finding the giants

Great idea. In order for kratos to come back and fight there needs to be a good enough reason (obviously his son) and the passing of the torch (his axe) to his son is a tremendous idea to have atreus start becoming the focal character. However I would rather kratos and the dwarf reconcile and he makes Atreus two hatchet 🪓 type weapons because he’s more of a speed character I think it suits his fighting mechanics more. Kratos gets to keep his axe, while Atreus gains his new weapon.

I love god of war ragnarock and its dlc Valhalla is such an amazing story in my opinion.

There have been a few hints in GoW 2018 and Valhalla that imply that Tyr has been to both Egypt and Japan, so I'd be willing to bet the next game involves Kratos and/or Atreus going to Egypt or Japan, and locking horns with either the Ennead or the Shinto pantheon, respectively

I hope after hearing about the Age of Rebuilding that Tyr mentioned means maybe we'll see Greece again at some point. Maybe as Atreus to learn more about where his father was from or perhaps as Kratos himself returning to his home. Its a stretch but I think it would be interesting either way.

This year alone we’ve had some of the greatest character arcs this ever. First Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and now Kratos. Wow we got 2 amazing story arcs, Kratos and Mimir, in a free dlc simply amazing. I was so ready to get GOW for my steam deck, but so glad I waited until I got got a ps5 this past June. As a father I felt every pain and hardship he went through with trying to raise a teenager. Also Thor trying to deal with an overbearing parent while trying to raise a teenage daughter. Gosh this series just hit all the feels for me. The top tier animation on Kratos with his lips quivering just had me on onions. Amazing job SMS they deserve an award for the whole series as a whole and DLC of the year. WOW simply wow. If Kratos and Mimir’s stories end here I’m fine, but if they go on an adventure in some other pantheon looking for Sigrun that would be so awesome too. Either way wow.

In the original games it was Kratos's anger and vengeance that drove the game. In these games it was a story of Kratos's redemption and family that drove the story. Maybe the next game they hear that Sigrun is in trouble and it's the god of war and hope going to help her for his brother in all but blood.

Most likely it will follow an older Atreus and Sigrune will show up as an alley when he needs one. Most likely Thrud will act as the secondary character.

Well about probable future DLCs I'd like to play as God of War from Tyr's perspective, imagine traveling through different pantheons, that even could be a whole alternative game series dedicated for him

I appreciate this "explained" video for a dummy like myself.

My thoery is that Kratos is slowly evolving into a sort of Abrahamic God-like figure. He becomes the one remaining God of hope and light while Atreus becomes his son. Hell Mimir is kind of the holy spirit lol. We got a full trinity.

God of War 2018 was my first GoW game. I knew about the games coming before that one, they were just fun hack and slash games to me, but never played them. I really liked the more story driven approach of of GoW, and fell in love with the deeper story of Ragnarok. The story of that game is for me still one of the most amazing stories ever witnessed (even comparing to movies and all that). Thinking it had a great ending nothing could have prepared me for the story of Valhalla. I am still struck by it and feel like I need to recover xD. It did make me realize that those first couple of games were more than just hack and slash aggression games. Valhalla really made me want to play those first games, maybe I'll even make a marathon out of it for myself. The ending of Valhalla gave me a bit of a bitter sweet feeling tho. Having an ending so perfect I scared we will not see Kratos back any time soon or maybe ever.

After seeing all Tyr weapons. I guess more pantheons next.

I would love to play as Sigrun. She is incredible! And arguably the most difficult boss we had to face so far

@@EliDrSus I know you may disagree but Gna was one of easiest Valkyries I’ve faced. I didn’t find her tough at all. For me it was King Hrolf and the most difficult Sigrun

This idea of other characters getting dlc spinoff like games reminds me of Kingdom hearts in a way. I like having side stories fleshing out the other characters, playing as them and having the main attraction be in the spotlight of the main titles. They can set Sigrun up for the bridge between ragnarok and the next saga of the franchise with an epic return, much like Atreus and of course Kratos. I think this will be the most Powerful form of Kratos to date. He is now one with both sides of himself and accepts the version of himself that destroyed his homeland. With an aligned mind and spirit, comes with an aligned mind and body working in unison. After fighting witb Tyr as well, he will be ready for the next phase 💪. Its like the one piece 2 year time skip, everyone will get an upgrade.

Through the Mandela Effect, a lot of people believe that Kratos was one dimensional in the original trilogy. People need to go watch the cuts cents of the original trilogy abs subsequent spinoffs/prequels to see how complex he was prior to him jumping into the Norse Pantheon.

Agreed. The ending of Valhalla was a direct response to those criticisms. I think most people only played GOW3 out of context, which was the end of the saga. Even then there was the whole Pandora arc.

Maybe their next bit will be with Atreus AND Sigrun? They are both out there finding themselves, or at least finding their place within everything. maybe that next adventure is what sets up the next game? There's plenty of really cool ideas to be had here, and I cannot wait to see what they do with everything they've laid out!

You know I wouldn't mind seeing the entries set in Egypt focus on Sigrun and Bastet teaming up to stop Set as the initial big bad and later Apophis/Apep as the final big bad.

The only thing i could ask for from this that we didnt get was TC Carson and Christopher Judge having a dialog

First off: Bravo Christopher Judge!!! What a performance. I don’t think will be a playable character but one that comes back in Kratos next adventure or perhaps Atreus own story arc.

Centuries and eons later on, the story of kratos will be something beings all can relate and debate about. Goodness, evil, violence, failures, friendship, family, love, hate, loss, triumph, redemption, revenge, greed, generosity, kindness, everything it means to be.

We will encounter Athena again. It was foreshadowed in the scene when kratos went back for the blades of chaos and he told Athena to get out of his head.

12:20 no, what I see is another game, or a DLC where Mimir learns that Sigrin is in trouble. Kratos and Mimir do the Buddy road trip and end up in Egypt.

What if Sigrun saves Kratos’s butt when Kratos gets called away to Egypt or wherever, because she’s the one who’s out traveling?

I feel if we do follow Sigrun in some fashion if she goes to Egypt she becomes Sekhmet, and Kratos returns to Egypt as an ambassador, this is how the story can still be "God of War," always referring to a God of War but not always Kratos, while he is the God of War in Norse and Greece pantheons now.

Who knows they may conclude segrun journey in some God of war 7 game or dlc. If the story permits they need her help for some major battle.

I honestly think this is perfectly set up for a loki spin off game. Sigrun can be a companion to loki as well as angrboda

Your analysis of how these games recontextualize violence to be more meaningful than the original trilogy does a bit of a disservice to the cathartic vengeance of those original games, and why that flavor of violence is meaningful as well. Violence can be impactful for its own sake, but especially when contextualized as a revenge driven quest for peace of mind like in the original trilogy. If we all grew up as you say where vengeance isn’t a meaningful enough reason for violence, then someone should tell Quentin Tarantino. But most of what you say is fair, and there certainly is more depth to these games than the originals, though that’s mostly due to Kratos’ trajectory as a character. It would mean less if we didn’t have the original games to fulfill that side of him first

I know this wil be a bit of a unusuall opinion but I think that Kratos is not done in the story and the reason i say this is actually the fact that there was bits not talked about in the dlc. There is no mention of Athena and Demosis plus many other characters and that part is not finished. I also believe that they most likely will make a companion game where you would be playing as Atreus and maybe Sigurne but thats just me as i love playing the games and love Kratos as a character.

I don't think they will do a game for just Sigrun. But, I think she will show up in a possible smaller game/expansion with Atreus.

Curious if anyone "returned to beach" right away after hearing that by selecting it in the pause menu or continued playing till they "died". I thought about it..... But continued on.

I know what you meant, but I thought it was still kind of funny when you referred to Ymir and Sigrun as "human beings".

First theory was first dlc we will be faye, dlc comes out and we're Kratos. Now it's next dlc we'll be sigrun. Gee I wonder what's gonna happen next XD

I really hope to see Sigrun and Eir and Gunnr again especially if we get to play as Sigrun. That would be just as fun to me as playing as Kratos. Who at this point seems to have found a fulfilling space to be in.

Would play as Sigrun, absolutely. That was my first thought when I found this part of Valhalla.

Maybe for next game series, kratos travels to Egypt to restore hope since it's people are perhaps suffering in the hands of the gods over there. To restore hope & peace even though those gods will not see it that way

I feel like all the weapons Tyr used HAD to be a hint of the future games. People were highly speculating that the next game would involve the Egyptian pantheon and Tyr straight up pulls out 2 Khopesh. So with that speculation, imagine Kratos going through the Egyptian, Aztec and Japanese Pantheons to inspire hope and save them from their own ragnaroks.

To end the norse series it might as well be atreus finding all the giant and maybe fixing his relationship with sindri

Damn i love the new god of war games so much. Had to watch this as I enjoyed watching the credits role, kicking Tyr's ass for a final time

i would love to see a game where we play as Atreus and Sigrun feel that would be amazing

It's clear that Kratos will now mainly stay in the Norse realm as their new God of War, but Tyr's yoga in the epilogue of Ragnarok hinted to the sequel being God of War China, as the director mentioned. Aside from that, there's still a few slow burn developments, Kratos/Freya, full peace, Thrud, now Mimir/Sigrun, etc. Atreus is definitely getting his own game. So, I guess maybe Sigrun might coincidentally join him at some point. I think Athena's part in God of War isn't over either, even though she's barely been mentioned or seemingly ever foreshadowed of anything. Otherwise, I can't remember what else is left to explore in the norse.

I honestly think they should put all of the gid of wars into a big movie it would be great can we make that happen ?

Kratos does what Kratos does....... force things and destroy things, and all we do is love it.

There’s a video out there that explains how Kratos was never really just one dimensional, that he was always deep-and that the new games didn’t add depth-they just enhanced what was already there.

That would be awesome if it allowed us to play as all of the companions and friends we've met throughout the journey and play their adventures on what they're doing in the world. You got Atreus and Angrboda, Thor's daughter, Sigrun, and Freya.

I think the next game will be Loki going to Greece looking for giants and hearing all of the horrors his dad did and Kratos goes back to Greece to right his wrongs and they both fight each other "to protect" the people. Probably not, but it would be a split playing as both.

their love story is very beautiful,I hope they come back and just like Kratos and Feye and also Mimir's body He finally gets his body back or they build him a new body I feel like we will have a DLC part 2 or just in the next game continuing Norse mythology Since there is still a lot to explore and show that has not been mentioned,such as the story of Idunn being true or not,the story of the necklace to Freya and the stories of the Kings Of Midgard and Mythology itself and others about Thor Since there are stories of giants he killed but were not told and the day he was almost dressed as a bride And of course others Animals of the gods/Pets,Valkyries,creatures and Gods that were not used + the return of Gods those who have already died They came back to life and I was sad that the Valhalla hall where the Gods and Warriors have fun sleeping,fighting,having sex,eating,drinking etc.. was not shown in this DLC I hope that in the future all this is included in the dlc Part 2 or next game Let's hope and pray it happens And I'm sorry for the long text Guys,I exaggerated Because I like to tell everything especially the details.. I will play anything with the "God of War" title. 10/10 DLC. Way more than I expected.

Who knows Atreus/Loki come back and be the villain and also might meet Thrud and Angrboda again or a new person Sigyn for example who is another Loki's wife And Loki's daughter Hela She appears and the explanation of who blew the trumpet to call the serpent in 2018 And who was Garm before having his soul taken and going to Hell? I would like to see Kratos go back to Greece. Note they can travel to other pantheons so returning would be possible but not only that but see Kratos rebuild it and bring hope back to his pantheon and I know tyr want him to be the god of war there but who said he can't be a god for both places I mean he is a god. Don't hound me with replies plz just something I thought

Yeah, people seems to forget that gods can have multiple title.

I thought it was great ... with alotnof character development... can't wait to see where this goes.. maybe the next game starts with segruin and her adventure.... or she leads Kratos and Memir to thier new story .. I can't wait to see where they go with this ...

God of hope

While the Sigrun Game/dlc idea is cool I'm hoping that future Ragnarok DLCs would include Atreus's adventures on his own and One DLC where Kratos and Freya delve deep into Helheim to return Baldur to life(who while in Helheim had a major change of heart and is ready to have a relationship with his mother beyond wanting to kill her) which would continue to follow Norse Mythology.

Man, I wish the original voice Actor would play. Kratos was included in the DLC old and Young Kratos Should have talked to each other and that cut scene.

What if Loki and Sigrin are the ones that go to different patheons? Id play her as the MC of her own game

additional dlc or a God Of War Next chapter where you play as Atreus and also explore as Sigrun

My guess is she ventures into realms she’s not familiar with (Egypt?), gets into trouble, and our goal is to assist her and play along side her in the next game

Bruh how do you get that ending with Sigrun tho? I was talking to Freya at the end and Sigrun was just standing there. Unable to be spoken too.

I was kinda hoping we could fight a young Kratos and he'd have some of the big power moves you have in the Greek games

I hope and want games that branch from kratos ( i still want kratos games maybe one when he magically gets younger in other pantheons) i want branched out games like thruid her adventures to earn thor's hammer, a game of atreus a game of sigrun and more
