I love how as we see more of fey we see kratos out of his element. Until now he was cold to women. His previous wife was honestly nothing but a prop. Fey was more his equal. I. The first episode she pats him on the chest and goes good boy. Could you imagine Wife number 1 being like that. Fey teases and jokes with him and he does play along. It's adorable.

It's wild to hear how differently Kratos speaks to the people in his life these days. He really is mellowing out. Even when Atreus tells him to "knock it off", he's very soft with his correction, but still manages to set a firm boundary. He's come a long way.

Something to note about what was mentioned about Atreus; he is VERY suppressed when he's with his dad. This makes a lot of sense because his dad not only shreds through fights due to his might, but because his personality causes his kid to hesitate. Without the big daddy around, Atreus is probably about as strong as a spartan soldier due to his magic, which honestly is probably the minimum requirement to act as support for the god-killer.

One of the reasons I love the segment he has alone with Sindri. It's truly nice to see Atreus being able to openly bond with Sindri (cracking jokes at and with each other, giving each other nicknames, etc.) and what good it does for both of them.

@@Salty_Suds yeah but the books say they came two at a time and weren’t trying to harm him. Still impressive stamina though. (edit: there was also decent time between each two person wave)
As a person who works with kids who are around Atreus' age, this is such a good representation of how it's natural for kids look up to people outside of their family. Atreus is enamoured by an idea of Tyr, and has a strong friendship with Sindri (the dwarf almost acting as another mentor, but one more personable to Atreus-- hence why Atreus listens more to what Sindri has to say). Kratos comes across to me as a bit of a helicopter parent, honestly (though not without reason). He is worried about his kid finding the wrong people to look up to and making the same mistakes as him. But at some point, he needs to let Atreus socialize with others without his dad constantly over his shoulder. He's now doing it behind Kratos' back because Kratos simply is too restrictive. Such an excellent parent-child representation. A lot of parents should play this game and the first (fourth) GoW game just to learn a bit more about and understand it.

the realization when it hit me when i re-read the subtitles for "Tyr" is that he doesn't have the "ý" at 1:08:54 compared to how Mimir called him
SPOILERS for the ending of the game for anyone who hasn't played or seen: Here's a detail that doesn't get spoken about much, but that I love. This Týr, the fake one that's actually Odin? Pay attention to his subtitles. The name give is always "Tyr", not "Týr". At the end of the game, when you meet the *real* Týr, the accent is suddenly present on his name in the subtitles. It's such a small detail, but at the same time it's absolutely insane foreshadowing that you're virtually guaranteed to overlook

I NEVER NOTICED THAT WTF
Jack: *swears like a sailor* Also Jack when Atreus swears like a sailor: "wait did he swear?"
Norse mythology (/language) trivia: 5:58 "Skjálfa" means "to shiver, tremble" in Icelandic. 9:27 Heimdall was the guardian god of the Aesir, who keeps watch over the rainbow bridge that leads to Asgard (bifrost). Gjallarhorn (meaning "hollering horn") was the horn Heimdall would use to warn the gods about the approach of the giants (the gods' enemies) during Ragnarok. Heimdall and Loki are fated to kill each other during the battle. 10:20 Lyngbakr ("heather back" in Icelandic) is a massive whale that baits sailors by posing as a heather-covered island, sinking into the sea when a crew landed on its back (thus drowning them). 13:36 Lyr is Menglöð's/Menglad's (often identified with Freyja) hall in Jotunheim (the land of giants). 13:59 "Dreki" is Icelandic for "dragon". 16:33 "Rönd" is Icelandic for "stripe, streak" or "edge, rim" 23:33 Trolls were giant, monstrous beings (sometimes possessing magic powers) who lived in isolated rocks, mountains, or caves. Hostile to men, trolls lived in castles and haunted the surrounding districts after dark. If exposed to sunlight they burst or turned to stone. 27:30 "Järnsmida" means "iron forge" in Swedish. 37:46 Kvasir was a poet and the wisest man, born from the saliva of the Aesir and Vanir gods, after performing a peace ritual on spitting into a common vessel. He traveled around to spread knowledge, until he has killed by the dwarfs Fjalar and Galar, who mixed his blood with honey to create the Mead of Poetry (which gave wisdom and poetic inspiration to those who drank it). And yeah, when Loki was hiding from the gods after killing Baldr, Kvasir noticed the outline of a crude net in the ashes of the of the hearth in Loki's house (which Loki crafted tried to think what the gods could use to catch him in fish form), and deduced it was made to catch fish (he shared that with the gods, and that's what allowed them to find and catch Loki in a stream near the house, shapeshifted into a salmon). 53:49 "Meign" probably comes from "sameign", which means "conflict, fight" in Old Icelandic. 57:13 Durin/Durinn is a dwarf who forged the magic sword Tyrfing. 57:18 World Mill is an interpretation of the cosmos as a rotating millstone, which could churn out well-being or disaster. It is associated with Mundilfari ("the one who turns the handle of the mill"), the father the sun and the moon (with his name related to the fixed nature of temporal cycles). It's also associated with Bergelmir, one of the few giants who escaped the deluge of blood from Ymir (which flesh and blood were used by Odin to create the earth and the sea) using a luthr (a box-mill). 58:30 Draugr are animated corpses (undead creatures) that inhabit their grave, often guarding buried treasure. 1:06:06 "Hvat er at gerast?" means "What is happening?" in Icelandic. 1:11:52 "Hættu" means "stop" in Icelandic. 1:16:23 Alfheim was the world of the elves. 1:18:07 "Sverð" is Old Norse for "sword". 1:23:19 Nidavellir is just another name for Svartalfheim (the world of dwarves - the game considers Nidavellir to be a city in Svartalfheim, though). 1:30:18 Jormungandr (aka "the world serpent", since it was so big it could encircle the world) was a child of Loki and the giantess Angrboda. Jormungandr and Thor are fated to kill each other during Ragnarok. 1:34:51 Tyr's arm got bitten off by Fenrir once the wolf realized the gods (including Tyr) tricked him into being bound with the chain Gleipnir. At Ragnarok Fenrir finally breaks free, ultimately defeating Odin but also being defeated by Vidar (one of Odin's sons). 1:36:06 "Örva ýta" literally means "Incite push" in Icelandic (since the arrow pushes enemies away). 1:40:13 "Iron wood" (Járnviðr) is a forest inhabited by giantesses/trollwomen (járnviðjur) who bore jötnar (giants) and giant wolves. 1:44:36 Bestla is the mother of the gods Odin, Vili and Vé. She is also Mimir's sister. 1:47:26 Surtr is the fire giant who ruled Muspelheim (the primordial world of fire) and had a great burning sword. During Ragnarok, he leads the fire giants against the Aesir gods. Surtr and the god Freyr are fated to kill each other during the battle.

I definitely think they should do a disconnected spinoff like Fromsoft did with Sekiro, focusing on a much more nimble Jedi: Fallen order type game. They've got all the ingredients for it, and they'd do it well, no doubt. While watching Atreus, it reminded me of how it felt when I finally mastered the game, with those swift little barely-missing dodges and counterattacks. I think the industry is ready for a shakeup like it honestly, EA's single good game and Fromsoft need some competitors to enact a change or sharpen their skills against.

@@TiredDoktor6391 After God of War 1, it’s implied that Kratos has been wreaking havoc across Greece with his Spartan army for centuries. Zeus puts a stop to this, and Kratos swears revenge, ending his father and the Grecian pantheon once and for all. This gives us between 130 - 230 years. At the end of the Grecian trilogy, Kratos witnesses the destruction of Sparta, an event that happens in 464 BC. God of War takes place right before Fimbulwinter, the event that heralds the arrival of Ragnarök, which occurs in 535 AD. With some quick calculations, we can thus determine that nearly 1,020 years have passed between Kratos’ time in Greece and his time in ancient Scandinavia. We can then add the final numbers using Atreus. In God of War set in Scandinavia, we know Atreus is 11. And in God of War Ragnarök, he’s 14, meaning we can add another 14 years to Kratos’ age.

He is a god slayer, and likely myths radiated outward, legends, something that's to be feared if not faced correctly, even then, I like to think he cannot truly die, if he ever needs to be called upon or something brings out that simmering anger, he will come back. Plus, it's not God of War without Kratos imo.
