The fact that Atreus was so suspicious and questioned his father's motives should also say a lot. Atreus couldn't even fathom the idea that his dad would be willing to actually spend time with him just for fun and not for training, or for a mission. This shows to me that Kratos, these past few years, have been so pre-occupied with just training his son, and making sure he's ready after his own's father's death, that he stops spending actual quality time with Atreus. I know that Kratos apologizes for how he's been acting later on in the game, but I think Atreus' reaction here is very telling and ties really well with that apology.

It's such a crucial moment especially with Faye's lesson. He needed to open his heart, to Atreus and the world around him. In 2018, he was so distant, and cold, out of fear that he would turn his own son into a monster, and it took a whole Journey of draugr, Hel-walkers, elves, ogres, and gods for them to finally form a true connection. But then Fimbulwinter started, and the stern training resumed. Kratos had clearly been wanting to spend some quality father-son time, and the moment he got that chance, he took it. Because unlike Zeus, he wanted to genuinely show Atreus how much he loved him.

Rather than that, Kratos is not afraid from dying, and he doesn’t believe that much in prophecies either, he says it. I think is the fact that he knows Atreus is growing and eventually they’ll set their paths apart, he has gotten a lot more close to his son and knows he will eventually leave, is part of growing up, he never had the chance to do that with Calliope due to being in the Sparta army all the time, so he’s probably just trying to spend as much time as he can with his son, he won’t have that opportunity again and knows it

While I favor Classic Kratos just going full Hulk on the Gods and Mythologies in general, these moments actually make me chuckle because they actually make sense. Like, when people and Gods aren't fucking up his life for shits and giggles and driving him to rage, sorrow and madness, he can be pretty chill and casual, especially around friends and loved ones who aren't dead! It's actually funny and nice remembering Kratos is/can be a normal person too! XD

There is not nearly enough representation of a good father and son relationship in any sort of media. It's ALWAYS either a toxic relationship or a nonexistent one. This is genuinely one of the few pieces of media that highlight positive masculinity between a father and son and it took me playing them to realize how much more we NEED games/movies/books with relationships like these. So many of us can't even comprehend having a healthy relationship with our own fathers that it's nice to see it exist in some way.

You can still do that with Freya but obviously there will be different dialogues and you will miss that whole father-son adventure. Freya will also mention that Atreus would be happy to do that quest with Kratos.

See this is what I hate about this game they build up ragnorok to be this big war the end of everything that even Kratos seems to want to enjoy the time left and then ragnorok comes and ends in like 5 minutes with 10 people involved that we don’t even see half of them, that wasn’t ragnorok. It was honestly so disappointing and took my enjoyment out of the game a lot.

About that, it's a reference to Sleipinir(Odin's 8 legged horse), which is a son of Loki, that he himself carried and gave birth to.
