God and Suffering | Matt Chandler

Suffering is (unfortunately) inevitable, but it’s not the end - instead of temporary happiness, God offers us eternal joy when we look to Him during trials. This week, guest speaker Matt Chandler, Lead Pastor of The Village Church, walks us through the Book of Job to remind us that even though we live in a broken world, God draws close to the brokenhearted.

I doubt you'll see this Matt, but randomly somehow if you do, just know that you had a part in saving my life. Saving my soul, brother. Thank you.

Dear Matt, this is Julie Kovac. You still have the same gift of teaching that you did your first few years at the Village. Thank you for this wonderful inspiring message. Megan passed away in 2022. The years before and year of her passing were very difficult on so many levels. Miracle, my granddaughter, is being raised by my husband and myself. Thank you and blessings upon you and your family. I will pray that the Lord continues to work through you to bring people to the kingdom.

Thanks so much for this message, Matt. I so needed this message after loss of our 15 yr old son Shiloh. You're so blessed with a gifting of delivering scripture in an easy to understand way.

When he talked about fatalism at about the 25 minute mark that stroke a cord in me. This is going to take a second. I was born legally blind and I never thought that I would get married but I did. I am coming up on the 12th anniversary of my wife's suicide she struggled with bipolar disorder. A few years after dealing with that I lost a job that I had for 17 years. I have another physical issue called hemihypoplasia where one side of my body is smaller than the other and I have a deformed ankle. I reached a point to where I had to use the cane to walk and now I'm at the point to where I have to use a walker to get around. I couldn't wrap my head around any of this and Jeremiah 29:11 made no sense to me whatsoever (That's a whole nother issue about context) I couldn't see past it I couldn't see past any of it. God however used it to bring me to the end of myself and now 4 years after I decided to go to steps over at citizens Church which Matt Chandler got started I can see how God has used everything. I had to sell my house and I'm renting a room from a friend of mine all at the age of 57. But I know beyond the shadow of a doubt more than the surety of my next breath that God is enough!

I see you brother and I am praying for you. That same spot struck a cord with me too. I have been chronically ill since I was 18 (I’m 25 now) and it has had me wrestling with God a ton about suffering. The only hope we have is Christ and we will be made new once again. See you on the other side!

This happened to me when I was living overseas in Cambodia. It was in my underarm and I had to get it lanced on my 13th birthday. Not a fun time and no pain meds.

I recently just got a job at McDonald's and I met a girl who has such a twisted view of God and Satan I would appreciate some advice. I want to help her and straighten her views but I don't know what to say

We need not worry about correcting, or "straightening" others. Rather, we do our best to instill our faith in God deeply into our being, and allow the revelation of His love to straighten US, DAILY. This life changing power will naturally radiate onto others, without us having to fret or worry about "finding the right words" let Jesus be king of your heart, and God will naturally accomplish the rest. God bless

The best approach is 1. Study god to renew your mind. 2. Ask them where they learned about god and ask them to show you where they found their truths about god.
