I would like to say that I made some unintentional errors in our discussion due to my own failings. I ask your forgiveness for this. I am pleased to see that there has been some goodness that has come out from it. I believe my biggest oversight was not mentioning the contingency argument as a way to prove not only the existence of Allah SWT but also to address issues such as the multiverse. I also don't think my analogy using the conservation of energy made my point clear, the point was simply that SOME physicists can make accidental metaphysical claims using physical principles and that is the realm of philosophers not scientists. Jazakallah for your patience, I will try to be more clear next time.

Assalamu Alaikum, i think you are being tooo hard on yourself... this wasn't meant to be perfect, it clearly underlines the challenges that Muslims face as students of 'science'... the earlier extremely 'negative' perspective on 'science' from Muslim Theologians, made it really hard to be Muslim and to be interested in science... my interest was in the biological sciences and i am very clear that learning science has only increased my AWE of my Creator, SubhanAllah!!! When i was told that i should not study science because i couldn't be a Muslim if i studied science... i couldn't fathom that... how could my studying His creation, be bad... i am truly grateful for your candor in this discussion, i think it will help many others in similar circumstances... @@saqlainchoudhary8968 The question that something can come from nothing is a straw man representation of atheists. I don't know why theists hang their hat on this notion. Krause even explained what nothing means from a scientific point of view. So a lay person's definition of nothing is going to be very different from a physicist's, and the fact that you brought it up is interesting/questionable.

I recently watched a Netflix documentary on the concept of infinity and immediately drew parallels between these scientists’ discussions and Islam. This then led me to search up on KZread any content on intersection between physics and Islam. I’m beyond grateful and humbled to have been guided towards your channel. I became an atheist, thinking existence of God is false and science is true. But when you really think, and ask yourself a simple question "why does it all exist" not just "how does it all exist" , it just seems so hard to deny some kind of control/authority behind everything. We need more of such discussions. So many people think that believing in God is something against science.

I am an Atheist who thinks science and god could be true at the same time though. And I don't think science is the only truth. And sure maybe there is a controller behind everything, but to say it has to be a god or even an all powerful god to me is just an empty assertion since we can observe how nature can work without any external controller/authority and I don't find it hard to deny either. I find it rather hard to believe in such "controller".

Doing my A levels in chemistry, biology and mathematics is amazing. Chemistry and Biology makes my faith even stronger, one example is DNA replication and to believe that this process came out of nothing is so absurd.

Yup im totally with you. No matter how minute the particle - cell, electron, neutron, quarks(??) - no matter how much scientists dig deeper - you cannot help marvel at the design of these particles. To insist that these designs are "random" and not from a Great Mind/ Intelligence is illogical. Looking at the designs of all that exists from the cosmos to the smallest particle - you can infer the "signature" of an Amazing Designer.

I am a doctor, while learning medicine as an undergrad, I come with maybe an absurd thought (or not) while studying the cells/biology/chemistry in our body. I come to a conclusion, whoever say that whatever that I was trying so hard to understand and remember (fail at times) can just come about accidentally/ from nothing...that is stupid! The details even in one cells is enough to make one feel at awe as to how much precise and well organized it is. And that is one single cell!

I’m taking psychology course in my med school It’s literally driving me towards insanity; I can’t imagine how "robotic" humans are.

Much needed can’t wait to watch the whole thing i have done my undergrad in psychology & now my masters in teaching biology & physics. I always have dem class mates telling me how studying physics led them to atheism 🤦‍♂️

When we ponder over the Earth’s gravitational pull, its control over us, and how it pulls us back down to itself, we feel that there is a mighty force from which there is no escape. However, when compared to other natural forces, it appears to be very weak. In fact, it is 1036 times weaker than the strong nuclear force. The weakness of gravity compared to other natural forces is a key element in the extremely precise fine-tuning for life. In the New Scientist magazine, in the article titled ‘Gravity mysteries: Why is gravity fine-tuned?’, it states, ‘The feebleness of gravity is something we should be grateful for. If it were a tiny bit stronger, none of us would be here to scoff at its puny nature..... Surely it would be more rational to believe, given that this finely-tuned number is in play, that this was a result of knowledge, and that it could not have been by sheer coincidence.

I was born Muslim and reverted after carefully studying about this amazing religion. What I mean is I never left my religion even a second alxamdullilaah but I feel very different when I studied. Inheriting religion from your parent is very different when you truly understand about Islam alxamdullilaah and I thank Allah thousand times a day o allow me to die as Muslim insha Allah.

Saqlain if you manage to read this message please keep on doing discussions/dialogues like this one you re a very good communicator almost as good as our beloved and respected brother Paul. At the hour mark you talk about how special we are in Allah`s ( God ) eye. You are so right on this perhaps next time elaborate on this for the benefit of our non muslim friends and colleagues, we are not a product of random chance, left to find our own meanings and purpose in a world that does not care either way. As far as we know the Quran tells us we are a very special and unique creation and as you say "life seems to be a journey to achieve proximity to God " If you think about it out of all the various species that have existed on earth or currently exist we humans are the ONLY ones that have such profound capacity to understand our world, our universe to ponder the ultimate question WHY. Our destiny is incredible our potential is immense to be with Allah/God for an eternity in paradise free from the suffering and evil of this life, to bask in His glory and to never die. We and you Saqlan/ Paul have this amazing message to give the world just like the prophets of old did. It is a message of total submission to God/Allah, when you do that you really do find your soul and your humanity, Peace and blessings to all

Thank You Saqlain.I also think a big reason people profess to be atheistic or dont want religion is tbst the negatives of religious abuse or wars and other things in the name OF. are being applied and they dont want to be associated with such groupings. The other reason is maybe the denial of discipline to reach the Essence of connecting with the Awesomeness and total Enigmatic Power of the One Eternal Intelligence tbat has just commanded "Be and it is". Last one also is lack.of good dawah where many of us lack.to first empower ourselves with balanced thinking of rational.and metaphysical education to engage more powerfully. Very beautiful talk that had me in tears many times

Bro Saqlain hits the right spot when he observes scientists being arrogant in their knowledge and not being humble enough to accept there are limits to their understanding of the Universe.

Paul you should consider inviting Professor Ahmed Rafique Akhtar a very influential speaker from Pakistan whose simplicity of analysis is very encouraging and inspirational.

One reason that I think also contributes to decline in endeavor is the easy access to worldly distractions and decline in "delayed gratification". Most people generally do not think about things but are rather involved in dramas, movies, parties etc. This had become much easier after the advent of internet and smartphones.

I'm thinking to study physics, chemistry, biology and logic deeply.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT CONVERSATION OF THE BEST KIND.

This interview is so great I had to watch it twice today, the day it was released. Thank you Paul and Alhamdullilah.

I feel like this is my corner, this is the kind of people I want to be surrounded by, it is so meaningful, refreshing and enlightening and quenches my thirst for knowledge in every way, particularly in this day and age of degeneracy of society. I mean, just place this next to trash tv, open TikTok or Instagram, visit any schoolyards and see for yourself what people are pre-occupied with mostly these days... Put in a nutshell: I feel „picked up“ (have no idea what the German equivalent would be to that idiom lol I'm sorry)

Excellent discussion paul and learned alot on whats happening currently in regards to how science is taught nowadays compared to how it was. Would love for you to get on your blog a guy named Dr shehzad saleem. He wrote a book on the History of the Quran. He holds a phd in that subject from the University of Wales. Take care brother

It's been this way for the last 40 odd years and exported to all corners of the world... Unfortunately other nations thay have imported BOTH the philosophical assumtion alongside scientific study are often unable to reconsider it's existence let alone separate the two. That's why HUGE swathes of the academic class, the scientifically inclined or even those that appreciate fruits of science like tech or medicine that are being educated in Muslim nations become despondent, disparaging and even disregard Islam since they see it as fundamentally incongruous with science. Not only is this not true it is a DIRECT result of their lack of awareness and inability to recognise the philosophical assumtion theyve unassumingly coupled with science and thus won't evaluate. If they were aware they'd be able to separate the two, challenge that assumption, research preexisting Islamic philosophical structures and realise that it's not Islam Vs science and should they come to that conclusion that it is that they've willingly accepted the Scientism philosophy which again is NOT scientific. Either way the problem will lay with their internal moral quandary and how they feel they want to reconcile that not Islam or scientific study.

This was a riveting watch; thank you Paul and Saqlain..

One of the best podcasts so far!

Physicists of the highest caliber, like Roger Penrose today, or Heisenberg and Schrödinger in the past, acknowledge their ignorance in the face of the universe. At best, they remain neutral on the possibility of a creator and recognize it as an open question, but do not assert God's inexistence. It is only the lesser physicists who are overconfident of their knowledge.

@@philipcoriolis6614 There is no such as a divided God . Abrahamic and non Abrahamic my friend. Its your mind that causes division . Their are for eg so called Gods , when the floods came people were seen carrying their “Gods” over their shoulders to prevent them drowning away ? . 😀

And how do you know if he thinks the. Direction to pee matters. Will you please lift your head up from pelvic area and its functions . Please it is only good for you . Just read your own Bible and then Quran then use your head (once you have lifted it up) to see how the core teachings of Bible and Quran is same . And if you read the vedas Read your most earliest Vedas, that is the Rigveda and see what it says . It too says and confirms ONE GOD OF ALL . And it also confirms that there are to be no idols made of that one God . Newton the great physicist was a STAUNCH believer in the presence of One God . So why do you feel the hate in you to talk the way you are talking ?

You mentioned "the hanging man" and it made me think about the sensory deprivation tanks you can get access to these days. Check it out. A big bath tank filled with water that is set to body temperature, filled with salt so you float, and you lie in it in silence and in the dark, and essentially after a certain amount of time disconnect from all of your senses and are just left with yourself floating in nothingness. I've been intending to do it, they have tank centres in the UK.

Lovely discussion, when you guys were talking about travelling of saints like Muhammad Asad and Hamza Yusaf, I remebered a poem by Baba Fareed a Sufi sheikh from 12 century in which he says "Uth Fareeda sutya chal dunya waikhun jaaye, jay koi mil jaaye bakhshiya Tay TU vi bakhshiya jaaye" Translation: wake up O Fareed and roam around the world, you may find someone who is forgiven so that you may also be forgiven.

I agree

Surely acquiring knowledge for knowledge sake is the purest form of motivation. Not being tinted by financial gain, religious dogma, personal power or Ego. Gaining Knowledge for it sake is the highest order and reason.

Great conversation! Thank you so much BT for making it and sharing it. Hamza Yusuf and Abdel Hakim Murad are of great benefit for the Ummah, especially the young people who grow up in the West. I am so grateful to both of these great men and I pray Allah (swt) to pay them million folds and increase their faith and knowledge for their huge contribution in keeping the light of Islam firm in these darkest of times.

Paul this is truly fascinating and I might add appropriate as I have spent the last two months binge watching science, especially physics It appears to be that science is trying to work out the universe with no concept of what is outside the box, ie the universe. If you say God created it the retort is well where did God come from, and for Lawrence Klauss to say something from nothing is ridiculous in my view. Scientists simply don't know what nothing is. Scientists all state the universe is 13.7 billion years old, but then some physicists believe the whole universe maybe an illusion,if this is the case then that 13.7 billion years is also and illusion. My conclusion is in seeking true, you will never know and you can spend so much time working out the past and the future with scant regard to this instant in time,ie today. Can my very exisistence and all that defines me be narrowed down so some simple mathematical equation. According to Sura 112 the sincerity Say Allah who is ONE Allah the eternal refuge He niether begats nor was conceived Allah has no equivalent. In view of that I see nothing wrong with simply bowing your head on the ground and adoring an unknown creator. There is more to life than science and mathematics and we will never ever know the answer.

Alhamdullilah. I like brother Saqlain way of explaining. I can understand his points . Some speakers be it muslim or non-muslim do not articulate their points well ( or maybe im not smart enough 😅🤣🤔) and even with repeated viewings i find myself lost. This gentleman explains himself well enough without being too verbose - such that an ordinary person like myself can grasp his ideas. Jazakallah khair. 😊

I will share with my daughter description of study physics in relation to structure of maths rule in similar to study of English literature in understanding of English language.
