New video on sunday now ;)
I grew up in the “stick on the ice 100% of the time” era. So I was using 27 and 28 inch paddles. I went back to 27s for beer league but started shaving them down earlier this year and it’s been working great. Part of what keeps it fun is experimenting with this stuff.

NEW video on sunday Tyson, see ya sunday ;)
I still make tons of stick saves from standing position. I'm so old, I was trained to keep my stick flat on the ice at all times and to stay on my feet as much as possible. I've definitely adapted to the new style of play. But once you hit 40, all those butterflies start to catch up with you.
Great video man!
I stopped taping my blades all together years ago, might have to try the butt ends out tho since it's reusable. Just discovered your channel and really dig it. Best of luck in your journey!

Personally, i cut the shaft of all my sticks for 3 or 4 years now, absolutely love the feel of a shorter stick while stickhandling, and i feel like i can put more weight on it than i would with a longer one. I papersand and then paint all white all my sticks now, cause the shaft grips on the bauer sticks i use feels like nails on a chalkboard to me. I love the all white look and when i'm in a paddledown i feel like i see the puck better when it's close to me. It also allow me to buy the sticks i like in any color without worrying about it 👌🏻

Totally agree with you on why the standard paddle is shaped like it is on the top. It has never felt comfortable. Personally I would be very happy if they had the trigger grip as a standard offering, not custom.

Trav do you think you can do a video on how the trigger grip/ullmark grip differs compared to the bobrovsky grip. I tried the bobrovsky grip but didn't love it and would like to see if the ullmark would work. Also how do you order a ullmark grip I was looking in custom and couldn't see it. Thanks love the channel

I think theyre 2 completely different things. One is for controlling the stick to be able grip the stick traditionally, the bob grip is to take control of the stick and make low blocker saves

Hey Bring back the Curtis Curve Victoriaville !! Haven’t checked you out in a bit Trav, Excellent to see you in the FED !!! I enjoyed trying all the different gear back in the day, but at some point you have to find what works and stick with it, and stop all the pucks. I am amazed at how guys move in the bulky upper body protection, and the heavy goal masks of today. I’d be interested to see you try a Mage helmet, or the Warwick Hasek style helmet and cage. Maybe an off season video test try, for some fun just to see how the vision is in one of those. I hope your team gives you an opportunity at a few games in a row so you can get on a roll, Best of Luck !!

Honestly, I'm not the biggest Trav fan out there. I won't go into a lot of depth but I don't appreciate his click-bait videos and his unfunny humor to name a couple. But this guy nailed the video right on. The "stick always on-the-ice" thing is completely outdated, rounded toes are better than square, and the different grips. Not to mention the high-quality clips he puts in. You are starting to win me over a little bit, Trav.

One hack you missed is to use your stick as a weapon to clear people out of your crease. You can use it to literally hack at your opponents.

Okay, hear me out, I tape my blade just like you, but for other reasons, when I stickhandle and go to move the puck from my forehand to my backhand och the other way round the puck tend to flip, or at least want to flip. This makes for a much harder time when you are trying to handle the puck. But this is just my reason to only tape half of your blade

Посмотрел это видео и понял. Чтобы в России сделать такие рукоятки, надо ехать либо в Москву или в Санкт-Петербург.
They have the paddle shape like that for retail so you can shave it, not everyone have the same size hand that why they dont retail it. Most pros over 95% have rocker blades on the goalie stick , it is never flat, this allows them to cover low blocker and in tight also better mobility and rebound control. the length is just a measurement doesnt indicate the hand position because the blade is not a straight line. You dont need a trigger , better off buying a smaller stick and adding a knob 1" above the paddle shaft joint. they way the paddle length is measured for legality purpose straight where it is widest and stops when reaches end of heel, not from the shaft joint. Too much work on the goalie stick, just go get a procustom not retail custom options.

99% of goalies in the nhl or any pro league have there stick off the ground
@arthurfriederich3825
Жыл бұрын
Well, it's a matter of personal preference, a lot of nhl goalies don't have their sticks on the ice until the play is really close to them and they are ready to drop on their knees. I used to keep it on the ground everytime but i feel like it hinders the mobility and the blocker arm so much, definitely prefer keeping it up and then putting it on the ice on tighter plays
@Nick-rp8lu
Жыл бұрын
@@samnolan5342 goalies don’t have their blade on the ice. Very true. But this kid’s stick when he is holding it standing straight is at his knee caps. When he squares up he is half the size and his weight is too far forward. So it’s either don’t have your stick on the ice, or play in a tiny stance like you are trying to make it easier for the shooter….I’m sure all his goalie coaches say the exact same to him. But he’s too arrogant to listen to people who know what they are talking about.
