Hey! I came from the previous video and this is a huge upgrade from the first one wow. Just a few suggestions 1. For the goals, can you make a view or something of the sort that shows Quarterly views of the said goals? I know you track that on miro but what if notes, action plans, resources and tasks need to be added to them? 2. Will i be able to add sub areas to the existing areas? 3. It would be great if you can add a projects database that can be related to an area, goal, task etc, since projects are many tasks and possibly sub-tasks grouped together 4. Will you be also adding notebooks? Thanks and Happy new year to you too!
@ProductiveDude

Hey Khushal, thanks so much for your feedback. 1. Quarterly view is a great idea, I'll add it to my roadmap! 2. To handle sub areas I think it's best to choose a life area, then sort topics into those life areas accordingly. I'll look into this... 3. Individual "project views" are specific to certain people so I may teach how to do this in the future. I have done this for some of my 1:1 consulting clients. It's quite nice, but hard to replicate into a template. 4. What do you mean by Notebooks? Sounds interesting! :) All the best and here's to a happy, prosperous New Year! 🥂

@@ProductiveDude For question 3- What if you create something simpler? Eg in Calibrate, between Areas and Goals you add a Projects section that's divided up into different statuses and contains goals, tasks and notes sections inside it (These can be linked to the original databases that you already have by just stating what belongs where). For example in Process you can have the option of saying what project the task belongs to. Now in the projects section you can easily view tasks/notes/goals related to it. Since at the end of the day projects are just tasks that belong together- goals are also made up of many projects too It's simple really but it sounds like alot. Lemme know what you think! For question 4 & 2- Notebooks are just many categorized notes. I personally have notebooks for fitness, self improvement etc and in those are many notes. Hence why i recommend you have areas/sub areas> goals, projects, tasks and notes. Then when having task view (outside of all this), it shows which task belongs where and what is due when. Maybe this can be done for goals too. From my personal understanding topics are usually general interests that are not necessarily an area or project. I'm truly happy that you're taking feedback and improving the system man. I genuinely do love this one, especially the very unique sciencey design aspect. Lemme know your thoughts!😁

Hey, looking at dropping in on this but curious to know if it can be synced with the Notion For Business Template you have? Im running a couple of companies and would wanna have some of the tasks blend over to those and vise versa. Keep the good work up in the new year! /D

Жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel, it's possible to sync up, however it can be quite challenging to connect two templates and there is some configuring that needs to be done with properties. It's totally possible, just a bit of work and can be confusing so I wouldn't feel confident say it will be easy for you to set-up unless you have a robust knowledge of Notion. I'd be happy to do a 1:1 consult to help you set-up the Productive Brain in a way that fits your custom use cases. In fact, I can help you build a section in your template similar to the one in the Notion for Business template, I can also help you migrate over any information in your current Notion for Business template. If you're interested, you can email me to learn more: hello@productivedude.com I'd budget out at least $250 if you're interested in going this route, but in other words, it is possible. :) Thanks for your comment, Carter

Really like this template and on the edge of purchasing. How does it handle recurring tasks like every 2nd Tuesday of each month? Is that possible? If not no worries, you've made an outstanding template.
@ProductiveDude
Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your kind words! Currently there is no intuitive way of doing this in Notion that doesn't require a bit of leg work every time something is duplicated. This isn't just my template, this is for all templates. Notion recently released "Recurring Templates", however it won't allow for setting a "Date" property automatically and it's impossible to set it in advance. I can assure you that once recurring tasks becomes more feasible on Notion's end, it's high on my list for things to add to the template. Until then, for recurring tasks I recommend adding them ahead of time, once per month on a designated planning day... or add them all at once for a full year. All the best, Carter
@MondSemmel
Жыл бұрын
@@ProductiveDude "however it won't allow for setting a "Date" property automatically" - Nowadays you can at least set @Today in recurring templates (in the title or body of the text), such that the current date is displayed. That's not nearly as good as filling the date property automatically, but I suspect it *is* already enough to have such recurring tasks automatically appear in your Process page in a "missing Date property" section. Of course, that's still much jankier than it needs to be.

I have a question. Do you delete your tasks once they've been completed and no longer serve a purpose in your project? Or do you put them in a database for archived tasks/projects? If you do the latter, does it cause the overall database for your second brain to lag?

Hi I've been wanting to purchase thomas frank's notion template but I find it messy on my eyes and looks overwhelming, but yours is tidy and cleaner, just wondering if you get the idea from him? He also has the PARA and GTD method .
@ProductiveDude
Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your feedback on my template! It's nice to hear your thoughts about it being tidy and clean. I aimed to get rid of any distractions and annoyances that Notion templates normally have. To answer your question, I didn't get the idea to make templates from Thomas Frank and he certainly wasn't the first one to build a Notion template that is centered around GTD and PARA. People like Marie Poulin, August Bradley, etc. were much earlier on the scene with templates like this. Also it's important to note that these acronyms were created by other people. David Allen is the author of GTD, "Getting Things Done" a book about a 5 step framework for getting things done more effectively. Tiago Forte created the PARA, "Projects Areas Resources Archives" acronym I'm pretty sure, and he created a cohort based program called "Building a Second Brain". Another person who I think deserves far more credit in the Notion space is Red Gregory, she does some amazing work and I've learned a lot about Notion from her, free of charge. All of these guys and gals are great in their own respect but I aim to be the best version of MYSELF with this youtube channel and with my product releases. I also aim to give the market what it wants. :)

Personally, I find Notion to be a distraction. Trying to shoe-horn it to do jobs it's really not designed for. For me, I stick to using it simply as a WiKi. Nothing complex, just a place to store, organise and reference information and ideas. Yes it can do many things, but it becomes a time suck when I just want to get on with my business. I was spending so much time setting it up that I'd end up down many rabbit holes, while not actually getting on with my actual business. So now I keep it simple and use the right tools for the job (eg Task managers, Google docs etc) and focus my time on my business not the tool.

I started the same way. But now that I have a setup I actually like, I'm consolidating tools and *reducing my cognitive load*. I no longer have to keep track of what I have across many apps; Google Docs, Sheets, Keep, Drive, Tasks, WordPress (I first started using Notion as a blog replacement), etc. Overcomplicated Notion setups are indeed a distraction. However a couple days ago I built out the Productive Brain by watching Productive Dude's videos. It looks like it does a lot but it's refreshingly simple (much simpler than other setups I tried to copy and ended up not using).
