By filming the experiences of French, British, Italian and Spanish trainees and professional dry stone wallers, this video shows the passion involved in this traditional craft and helps discover the feelings that connect the profession to landscape and history.
Dry stone walling is a building technique that has enabled humans to shape the land with creativity, coherence and respect for hundreds of years.

I live in the United States and have property in the rocky mountains of northern Canada. I'm getting into stone work because nobody does any more and nothing we build lasts any more

Thank you for posting. Beautiful. I'm going to try this in my yard in the Spring. Always wanted to build a stone wall.

The woman and all these guys are right, it is a beautiful and really addictive endeavor, once you start there's no going back. It has a mystical, magical quality to it that cannot be understood from the outside, you have to try it yofurself.
what a wonderful video with such good people; restores you faith in mankind; beautiful stone walls!

Well Julia,Very well presented. And a topic I truely do love. Some of the walls featured are simply stunning to say even the least. I live in a place where stone is probbaly the most prevelent and abundant part of the landscape, but, for different reasons it didn't/has not, found its way to the potential deserved. I have been to Ireland and am still in awe of the massive number of and outright quality of the stonework that is found there. For me just overwhelming really. Still, my most favoured wall sits outside a modest home in tiny town known as Fogo. The settlement is ancient by North American norms and is located on Fogo Island, Newfoundland. We stumbled on its location at the end of a town street and had to use the drive to turn our car in. The variety of sizes, shapes and types of stone used is unique in my opinion. So much so that I was compelled to exit the car and knock at their door. Sadly, at a time when they where away. I enquired at a local business and was told " Jeez buddy.......that guy has spent twenty years building that wall".My only thought then and now.............time, well spent.

Great video. I love rocks and stone walls and am an artist. I have built a stone wall as a landscaper, but no where near was it as fun as these people are having because they were stone that were already cut and used glue to put them together. Great experience, but handling native stone after stone, the energy that comes from each rock must be great. What a way to spend your time and get paid for the job is a bonus.

Me too, so many things to learn so little time or aptitude for some.
Brilliant project. Could anyone suggest specifics for working with stones shown starting @6:55 where olive trees are? Planning on improving a similar land in the Med.
Music is super overbearing, but great stories and footage.
Dry stone in Pennsylvania .

Is it better to lay stones level, or tilted down very slightly towards the middle of the wall, or either way?
problem is most have to source stone from elsewhere. that’s not without mass pollution.

Have you ever stolen something(no mater how small)? Have you ever desired that which belongs to someone else? Have you ever had sex outside of marriage? Have you ever lusted after someone? Have you ever used God's name as a cuss word? Have you ever disobeyed your parents? Have you ever murdered(or hated) someone? (this is just a small portion of a longer list of possible sins) Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." If your answer is 'yes' (if you answered 'no', you're either lying or you're delusional and should look for professional help), you have broken God's law(which are all based on the Ten-Commandments). Since God is perfect, His justice must also be perfect. The bible states that the penalty for breaking any commandment is death(i.e. eternal Hell, which is also separation from God)[ Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." ]. However, God is perfect in love and mercy also, and by nature a saving God[ 2Pet 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." ]. In order to resolve this dilemma, a sinless substitute had to live and die in our-stead. The only solution(since all men have sinned) was for Him, in the person of His son Jesus Christ(i.e. the second person of the Godhead; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), being perfect, and thus sinless, to come to Earth as a man and to live the life of a man. Jesus was tempted in every-way, as men are tempted, but did not fall into sin. Therefore, being sinless and infinite in nature, He could become a substitute for all those that would come to trust in Him. Somewhat similar to going to court, and after being found guilty, someone else pays your fine. [ John 3:16 "Fore God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that so whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting(eternal) life." ] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST! THESE ARE THE ABC’S OF SALVATION ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Knowing that the penalty for sin is eternal death in a lake of fire (The Bible states: -- Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death( or Hell ), but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."), and that we all have sinned(--Rom 3:23 "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God"), God's method of salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit of God, that starts with the following acknowledgment: [A]dmit that you are a sinner(-- Rom 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." ), [B]elieve in Jesus ( that He paid for your sins, died and resurrected on the third day ), [C]onfess Jesus as Lord( or Master; all men serve a master, they are either slaves to sin or slaves to God ), and you will be saved(--Rom 10:9, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." ).
