In fact, there's actual Greek and ancient Greek. In some countries, you can learn ancient Greek at school. But I never had that chance, there was only latin. I don't speak Greek but I know a lot about greek mythology.

wonderful thing about Disney is they almost *always* release the movie in the language for where it takes place. French for Beauty and the Beast and Hunchback of Notre Dame, Cinderella for both France and Germany. Lion King has a Swahili dub, Mulan in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Sleeping Beauty in Russian is *gorgeous* and The Jungle book in Indian is really neat sounding. and all those are just examples! I'd love to hear a Disney movie based in Japan or Portugal. Plus, non Disney movie Road to El Dorado is a lot of fun to watch in spanish (Miguel and Tulio's language in case you haven't seen it.)

Too bad Pocahontas native language is already extinct... I wonder if Native Americans still speak their native language...

The moment you realise that he is singing in a language that was spoken more than 2,000 years ago.. (Yes I know there are some differences between ancient and modern Greek but you get the idea..😅😄) People like Herodotus, Perikles, Pythagoras, Archimedes, Euclid, Hippokrates, and Leonidas must be dancing in their graves😎 The pride that I feel in my heart cannot be described in words .. 😊

The language has vastly changed since then...but still it relatively changed less than lets say italian has from latin... the ancient greek of Socrates for example had more aspirated consonants... and had long and short vowels as well as intonation...all these have been lost...

You are referring to the erasmian pronounciation, but we need to remember that it only applies in classical greek not koine and that it is only the pronounciation, not the grammar or the lexicon of the greek that has changed in a distinctive way. Furthermore, the greek language has changed very little in comparison to other languages.

@@jchea1764 But that is also true for all languages. 2000 years ago also Germanic, Romanic, Slavic, Celtic, Baltic etc languages were spoken. Of course, ancient Latin is not 100 % the same as modern Italian or French, but neither are Ancient Greek and New Greek.

@@jchea1764 Hellenic language is spoken around 3000 years and i dont even mention Mycaenean and Minoan first artifacts of writing.I spoke for a language i hope no misunderstandings arise because i was very specific.Furthermore Periklis may was the best Politician for Atheneans but he was responsible for much to many losses of human lives even before Peloponnesian war in the revolution of Egypt lead by prince Inaros in 461-460 bc .There in desert many Helelnes were helpless and forgotten from everyone.If i was you I wouldnt be so sure if he would be in Heaven.

Woah. The thing this really made me most aware of is how word structure changes from language to language. That "th" sound threw me off because it's very odd in those situations in every language I've ever learned even a bit of.

Awesome! I think Arabic is a cool language aswell. What i hate is.. I wish Norway, Sweden and Denmark adopted to Icelandic language since it has more ties to Norse language and i just like it ton of time better. But what can you do :P but its very well sung song!

Greece is basically the birthplace of Western civilization. So let's appreciate the influence it has on modern cultures. Ευχαριστώ

I don’t understand a word but alot of my family is Greek so I feel I should understand it for some reason When I was learning it about a year ago it was like it was natural for me which was really weird 🤨

These Disney songs sound more realistic in their setting's own language.

Hercules in Greek is great, some voices are even better in Greek like Phil and Meg

Κατα την γνωμη μου ειναι με διαφορα το καλυτερο κομματι της Disney αλλα και η ταινια Hercules ειναι η καλυτερη ταινια της Disney για εμενα .Βεβαια αλλαζει πολυ τον μυθο και αν εισαι Ελληνας και ξερεις οτι η Ηρα ηταν η κακια και οτι ο Ηρακλης ειχε ανθρωπο μητερα και πατερα θεο δηλαδη τον Δια και οτι στο τελος ο Ηρακλης σκτοτωνει την Μεγαρα και τα τρεια τους παιδια γιατι η Ηρα εστειλε τρελα στον Ηρακλη και αυτος ηταν ο λογος που εκανε τους 12 αθλους και ολες τις αλλες αλαγες σου φαιντεται λιγο περιεργο αλλα και παλι εμενα προσωπικα δεν με πειραξε καθολου και ηταν ωραιο που τελειωσε ευχαριστα και οχι δραματικα οπως στον πραγματικο μυθο

Αν το σκεφτείς η Disney πάντα αλλάζει τους αρχικούς μύθους ώστε όλοι να έχουν εν αίσιο τέλος και να είναι "family friendly" (πχ Μικρή γοργόνα, η ωραία κοιμωμενη, η πανέμορφη και το τέρας, Πινόκιο, Χιονάτη κι οι 7 νάνοι και πολλά άλλα που η αρχική τους ιστορία ήταν πιο "dark" και η Disney επέλεξε να τις αλλαξει)

I love this song in any language :3 It's always been my favorite along with Be Prepared. Also one of my favorite Disney movies along with the Lion King. I don't care how inaccurate it is compared to the real myth XD

I think both the English and Greek versions are great and beautiful in their own right. There's no reason to say that one language is better than the other

The word Greece has no relation with the turkish language!!!(yunanistan)...it comes from the ancient greek name Γραικός(greacus).. the romans called Greece as GRAECIA when turks didn't exist as a nation...

This is modern Greek. Attic Greek is "ancient" Greek (there's actually a ton of forms of it) and aside from the words being similar at times, it's basically a whole other language. But no, it's not dead... I'm an archaeology student and I can speak it.

omg! really you can speak ancient greek although you are not from grece? i am greek and i study greek language in university to become a philologist but i find extremely difficult for sb to speak ancient greek. personally i could never do that and i was the best student at ancient greek at school. so bravo!
