    I love your teaching style and the way you use common sense to make things easier to see how they're done.

    I really like your videos. They have been very helpful to me in learning how to think about learning the banjo. Old Joe Clark is definitely on my list of songs to learn. One of the things I've learned with playing guitar is that melody notes can be incorporated into downward and upward strums, depending on the note. While clawhammer doesn't have upward brushes, I can see how the same technique could be used in banjo. I would first want to learn the melody on a fast song without fitting in any brush strokes, but then go back and see where a brush stroke would fit into the melody.

    Thanks,just when I needed this.I dropped the brush and am compacting my play.Reducing hand movement seems desirable to clean neat sound.

    I don’t see how I can add to all of the great comments you have received but ditto to all. No way you can respond to all but just in case. When will I know when to add all of this cool stuff to a song? Drop thumb, double thumbed;

    I just purchased a banjo and thought that I'd give it a try... I'm interested in the clawhammer style, but also interested in the 3 finger earl scruggs style as well... Is it a bad idea to learn both? Learn one before the other, Or only stick to one style? Thanks.

    I’d say that might not be a good idea. I’d concentrate on your favorite first until you have a good handle on it, then start exploring.
