$2.00 locking pliers from harbor freight fixed mine. set it and forget it....***UPDATE*** After more than a year I decided to buy your kit and do it. Easy job.. good little kit. Hardest part is trying to keep the cloth seat clean while taking apart the grimy, greasy worm gear and carrier.

Thank you for your straight forward, easy to follow video. I have a 2000 Chevy Express 3500 and this helped repair my shifting seat. For Chevy Express owners you can unbolt from the "stand" not the floor board which will save you removing 4 bolts. Everything else is the same.

Just fixed c5 corvette seats today and i wish i had found this video first!! The kit i had was from a different web site and came with written directions which were terrible.. The procedure outlined was also slightly different then what was recommended in this video. For example the written directions said to thread the block 1/3's of the way where as you recommended putting it at the top of the gear(you were correct much easier). After i got to the second seat i was doing them in no time after watching these instructions. Some useful tips 1:) You DON'T have to remove the cable at all! The first 3 times i removed it but on the last track i i figured out you can do it with out removing the cable which shaved valuable time off the repair as well as some complexity. Simply manipulate the track forwards/backwards when needed to remove the gear and the caged housing block with nut and replace the shims, then put the gear back in again making sure the shims and everything clear the guides and line up. 2) The next big trick is when getting the gear to go into the guide have the chair's tracks/rails to be VERTICAL this will greatly assist in getting the gear back into the final guide as gravity will do its thing; press down the cable with your screwdriver to insert into gear then bolt every thing back up and your done. first rail took 2 hours on shitty instructions after watching this video was done in 1 hour both chairs and bolted every thing back up.

I had a similar problem with my 2008 Sebring Convertible. Original owner 100K miles ...still looks/runs like new. New seat tracks were $1400 !!!!!! Your shim solution made sense, so I solved my issue by making a tapered wedge out of a t handle small engine screwdriver/plug removal tool. I inserted the wedge at the front of the rail(between rail and seat frame). The seat now moves back and forth/up and down as it did when new ! No more rocking. !!!

As a retired ASE Master Tech, this I can say is a very good video, lighting, explanation and correct use of terminology while point out weaker torque areas, thread locker, plus grease. Thank you for using "TORX" as many call it a "Star". First used on aircraft and military parts for decades, it is only the last dozen years or more, found it's way into automobiles. This type of fastener is misunderstood as it allows higher torque with a small foot print. One point for end user, take a bunch of photos at various stages if you are not familiar with these repairs. Keep small parts in plastic sandwich bags and drop a labeled card into the zip lock sack if you cannot finish that day. Like the video or subscribe so you can find it again. Excellent job and clearly spoken at good volume levels. Two thumbs up!!

I expect that the kit replacement shims are a softer, non-metallic material. It is estimated that this soft shim design accommodates the break away torque of the relatively slow, high torque motor(s) that drive the worm gear. Metallic washers (I assume you used) will likely add too much start up torque to the motor(s); motor(s) may wear out (fail). If this is the case, you are encouraged to make a video on replacing the motor(s).

Thank you so much for the video! It worked wonders on my 2000 Durango. Apparently GM and Dodge shared same driver's seat slide design...Except for some other small differences, overall it was the same procedure! The only thing hard for me to find was a shime, so I ended up a sort of pipe into it. Thanks again, must have saved me at least $300 in labor

I have this issue on my 2002 GMC Sierra 4 x 4. About two years ago I purchased a complete front seat kit for both passenger & drivers side. I completely forgot I bought this kit from you (remodeling my laundry room) but today I had the opportunity to perform the drivers side repair. It took about an hour and a half, I cleaned everything, installed your shims, and greased the worm gear/shaft before installing. Wow! this is like brand new! I cannot thank you enough. So happy! And no more clunking movement. The other noisy rattling thing I addressed was a 77 cent Dealer part......my brake pedal rattled under the dash area when going over a bumpy road. Turns out it was a plastic pivot insert that wore out. (You can tell by wiggling the brake pedal side to side). That took an hour or so. Between these two things I am rattle free to an extent!

Great video. After watching, I was able to repair the seat tracks in a 2004 Ford Expedition. The Ford tracks are slightly different. You have to drill out the front track rivet to remove the worm gear follower. The worm gear follower and the metal block that mounts to the track are made of steel on the Ford. I considered making new plastic shims to fit, but the clearance from the center hole to the edge of the block did not allow for much material. Instead, I welded the threaded follower to the metal block. I was careful to center the follower on the holes in the block to avoid any potential wear. I fully greased the drive screw/gear and reassembled. I was able to use a button head bolt in place of the rivet. No more play in the tracks and my seat no longer shifts back and forth on braking and acceleration. Too bad the original design on these tracks was so poor. Not sure why they thought a plastic bushing was necessary in this application. The tracks would have outlasted the vehicle with a solid design.

Good video. But in my Z71 the external torque bolt that holds the work gear in had a kind of round nut on the other end. Not a 15mm as yours did. How do I hold onto a round nut in place if where you used a boxed end of a combo wrench? I've literally taken the back rest completely off the seat frame and can't find anything that can hold it while I remove the bolt. Everything else was just as you've demonstrated. Thanks again

I found that you do not need to remove the plastic side covers shown in the first minute of the video. Your boxed end 15mm wrench will fit through the inner part of the slide rail in a circle cut out specifically to get to that nut instead of from the front underside of the rail shown at time stamp 5:15. It saves a minute or two each seat not removing the plastic side covers.

  • @OVI-Wan-Kenobi-8

Barry Dorfman Yeah, I'm betting on the switch has gone bad since the motor still works in the forward direction. But I'm not going to replace it with a new switch because they cost almost $300 here in Canada. I hate power seats, it's not a matter of IF they're going to break, it's WHEN they're going to break. GM charges ridiculous prices for replacement power seat parts because they know they will break and customers will have no choice but to replace them. What I'm gonna do is unbolt the seat and remove it, disconnect the drive cable from the horizontal motor, and then use an electric drill to rotate the drive cable and worm gear to move the seat backwards. Once I get it all the way backwards, I gonna leave it in that position for good.

Frankyllovv _ one possibility would be to remove the two screws (on each side) shown at 4:24 in this video. They’re short so it would probably be doable on the outside rail. The inside would probably be a bear. If you take out the front seat-mount screws, you can probably lift the front of the seat by 1/2” or so which should help with access. Other than that, perhaps you just need to replace a fuse or whatever else it takes to get the motors working again. If it were easy, they wouldn’t pay you the big bucks!

I have a question. My 2001 Durango passenger seat slides front and back freely. The motor still raises and lowers the seat, but the front/back does nothing but runs the motor. Any suggestions on how to correct that problem? Originally, it did just rock back and forth, but the shop said they could not get the part to repair. Now it slides freely. So, could it have been the same part that has now completely disintegrated?

Sorry, I don't know anything about Dodge. You'd just have to take it apart to determine what has failed.

How many Motoros does it has for the back and forward.? In my 2008 Yukon the rails seems like the inner side rail and the outer side are not match, the 4 wholes where the seat is screed literally match a square But once is off I took it off, I see the rails are wrong, the outer rial is more front and the inner rail is more to the back.!

There is one motor in each seat. It is certainly possible for the rails to be out-of-sync if they are not in the right position when the cables attaching the rail screws to the motor are inserted.

@@BarryDorfman I tried moving all that mechanism.. seems like yes they not synchronized.. but still.. I kinda put them together and seems like the out is just moving while the inner is stuck. I dnt have those rails like you or wires, mine is a looong metal screw that has a metal frame attached as when it turns it makes the seat slide back or forward

I've been going crazy dealing with this trying to find a good video and this ones very detailed which I luv but it almost makes it sound too intense for my enjoyment to finish in a days work Wow GM really didn't think that one part through when they did so well on the rest it makes me scratch my head why these would even break to begin with.
