    This video was the best video I have ever seen somebody do. I’ve never changed two time and chains on a four-cylinder Eco tech ever I just was used to working on V8. This video brought me to it gave me the confidence to do it and showed me every step of the way now my car is running again. I’m very happy I want to thank the man who did it very, very much, he should get promoted in his job and give him an extra hundred thousand a year for this awesome video thanks man I appreciate it. I forget what your name is but thank you very much. You help me a great deal now I can go back to work, thank you and I learned something from you.

    This is the best ever video!.. This is how you give instructions! Congratulations on making a really professional video, unlike others that will tell you the story when they were born, with the video pointing to the sky or the floor.. Thanks to you, I, a non professional mechanic! was able to do a timing chain and I feel like a pro now!!! A million thanks!.. Does not get any better than this.

    Got her done, thank you guys for posting this video, I referenced it several times through the process. I have drag raced all my life and built many Pontiac V8 engines but double overhead cams are new to me. It went well, did it in the car, both chain sets at 174,000 miles with Cloyes parts, runs like a champ. Getting ready to build a 1970 455 Pontiac engine and will use Cloyes.

    Great video, I'm getting ready to tackle this, looks easy enough although in the car not so much, I may just pull the engine, the automatic will come up through the hood don't think the 5 speed will. I bought the Cloyes kit, thanks, you will need new crank bolt also.

    This is a very nicely done video. My hats off for making it! I really like the fact that the chain has the colored links in it to help with the alinement. I am thinking this would be a hard job to do with the engine still in the car. Has anyone done it while the engine was in the car? There is not much room in there.

    Would be the same if the chain had broke, just get the cams and crank in the correct position, as shown in the video. Recheck the timing marks after the new chain is in, and rotate the engine through at least a few full revolutions by hand when you're done.

    But make sure that your cyl 1 is not in TDC or you might bend some valves. If you want you can turn the crank 180 degree then all the pistons is in the middle of their cylinders, then turn your camshafts to the right position and then turn the crank another 180 degree to make cylinder 1 in TDC and you should be fine. I know you probably already got your car done but it might be nice to know for others facing that problem too.

    Dear Mary, Do you mean: VVT or non VVT? By the way, VVT stands for "Variable Valve Timing". An "interference" is when "pistons hit valves". You'll notice it when you're manually turning the crankshaft balancer after installing those "timing chains", (No belt chain). It's an unusual sound.

    One way for sure is to do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test or you might be able to use a small borescope through the spark plug hole to see any marks on the piston from where it had contacted the valves.

  • @dalecp2

    @dalecp2

    Actually 10 and 2 is approximate. When the marks on the crank drive sprocket and the two cam shaft sprockets are in the correct position to allow the timing chain to be put on with all of the marked links next to the marked locations on the sprockets, the cam sprockets will be at about 10 and 2. Sorry about the long sentence. If you line up the marks on the chain to the marks on the sprockets correctly this is actually idiot proof. The cam sprockets fit the cams in such a way that you can't put them on wrong. People get all worked up about getting this wrong when it is really a piece of cake. Just trust the marks and all will be fine. I am currently putting my daughters 2005 Pontiac Sunfire back together after changing the timing chain and sprockets and water pump. Yes, I get a little nervous too, but then I remember to trust the marks and it always works fine. Don't overthink this. Guess how I know not to overthink this?
