@@chrissquid it also depends on how many games you've played in that category. someone who has only played 3 rapid games will gain/lose much more elo per game for their first few games than someone who has played 1000 rapid games, for example

No, he just thought too fast and didn't focus, tunnel visioning on the hanging pawn rather than mate. Had he spent one more second to make his move he would have won.

@@brianlam5847 Probably was also distracted while looking at the chat and went into autopilot. Normally, a GM shouldn't miss such an obvious move even when 'thinking super fast' (which GMs usually do).

@@brianlam5847 Still, with streaming and twitch it's a pretty interesting situation and a decently new setting to see those GMs in. I am pretty sure he would (almost) never make such a mistake in a tournament, where he would be mentally prepared, fresh and not having to focus on anything besides the game.

I’m 870 and I had completely winning position against him till I ran out of time. I was terrified of each move he made and completely over thought.

@@Midnight890 Yeah. I just don't think they realised how badly they got outplayed. An alternative is that they were following theory for quite a bit, but the moment the position got tricky, they got a worse position. Both of these things are possible, but not what oc claims in his comment.

This is why I hate chess. You can be rated 3000 and still lose to some 900 scrub if you're not paying attention. No matter how good you are, you have to burn mental energy and always focus... I don't hate chess, but damn does it give me a headache sometimes 😅
