    A Quite popular technique is the Targeted Ketogenic Diet or TKD. Have good carbs and some protein a few hours before you work out , like rice, sweet potato, etc. You burn off the glycogen in the gym and the rest of your meals are keto. Its good for your body and metabolism to have metabolic flexibility and know how to switch back and forth from carbs to fat. Again, this is for people who workout. If you dont exercise and burn off the sugars you will get fat.

    Again lemme ask you, if u are an athlete or doing high intensity exercise, u can eat 50 per of carbs of total calories if you are burning it. Keto is clinical and for special population not for athletes because anyways they gonna burn all the carbs by doing exercise, they how it can harm?... Carbs are only bad if u are not burning it rest I think it is great source of fuel. What u think?

    I just discovered your channel. I can see that you have many videos I need to check out. I enjoyed this video. It's a subject I'd like to know more about. I'd love to see another one, with a drastically longer list of hi and low GI and GL foods that would be scrolled down the screen quickly as you talked more about the subject. Also how Statin drugs factor in. It's plain from scientific research that Statin drugs have made a significant impact on reducing mortality from heart disease, but it would be important to know how to mitigate harmful effects of their use, without nullifying their beneficial effects.

    Welcome Walter. When you look for low glycemic foods look to vegetables that are not starchy, meats, eggs and cheeses. Starchy vegetables are veggies such as corn, potatoes, and peas. Really informative. I have always tried to just go the low carb route, so staying under 50 (aiming for 20, as I have PCOS). However, being vegan, understanding glycemic load can also be really helpful. This is because diet can be incredibly restrictive if you're vegan and trying to cut out carbs. Understanding that different carbs work in different ways in the body can allow for more variation, but knowing to stay at a low GL number helps to not overdo it. What are your thoughts?

    Some people say that if you are dealing with whole unprocessed foods...real foods, then there is no issue with counting net carbs, but they say that manufacturers of processed foods can be really tricky with their labeling and such, so for those foods...which should actually be avoided anyway...for anyone still eating them, they should count total carbs. I rarely eat processed foods anymore.

    It's important to measure the daily amount of carbohydrates but distinguishing between types of carbs (especially sugars) and measuring glycemic load is still critical! I mean wheat bread is still less harmful than white sugar (supposing you take the same amounts of both). Carbs Amount + Fructose Amount (aspire to zero) + Glycemic Load is the way to go in my opinion.

But the suggestion of counting net carbs to ensure the numbers are low makes sense to me. Also, fat and fiber don't increase insulin, not meat, egg, and cheese.

    Just keep things simple u only need to roughly track your macros if you get OCD about every gram of food or macro you eat you'll go mad and it'll get to you , By this I mean if you're starting out weigh your portions and food at first to get a feel for what your putting in your mouth after a while you'll have a very good idea of a foods macro profile just by looking at it . Being healthy fit and staying lean is a long road so do what you can to make that road an easy journey and you'll stick to it

    SUGGESTION: I am using chia and flax as a fiber in my whey protein isolate drinks. My thinking is that since whey powder spikes insulin that the fiber will slow it down and result in a lower spike. I also eat broccoli first before my rice in hopes that it has a similar effect and helps slow the sugar absorption. The suggestion/request... Does any of that work? Are these good ideas? Are there ways to reduce the negative impact of eating a sugary dessert? I love the video BTW

  • @hUgO6191

    @hUgO6191

    Yes there's another video where he talks about the order of the foods you eat influence the spike. So if you go for carbs first you get a much higher spike than if you start with protein or fat. My approach since I want protein for muscle is to eat fat first and then protein and then carbs, as far as I've seen I'd say what is clear is you want carbs last and this is my personal preference

    I'm just curious, why specifically mention "full fat dairy" as having low carbs and not just "dairy"? Is there a difference in carbs between the two and why would that be? I have often wondered what is better for you. Also, in other foods like meat, where u can choose lean or fatty, does the same thing apply? Thank you so much for this important information!

  • @drekberg

    Fat is the preferred fuel for humans. It is very healthy as long as it comes from a healthy animal. The dairy does have some sugar in the form of lactose, but the fat makes it absorb slower. So skim milk is absorbed very quickly while heavy cream is very slow. The same thing holds true for meat, but to a lesser extent because protein has no carbs.
