Ойын-сауық
I received an engine from a crash and I discuss the next steps I would take and have taken in the past for assessing the engine.

Thanks for the great advice. The grass in the outer part of our field is over 6 foot high. Its imperitive to get a good sighting when the plane goes down. Our club has walkie talkies to help directing anyone going out into the tall grass.
I believe him, the impact broken off the horizontal stabilizer/vertical stabilizer and the g force shoved that forward, pushing the elevator into a full up instead of down where it was when the servos fails to respond. Now coreless bb servos without power on a model that size will easily be moved to neutral by air pressure on the control surface. Not that it matters because the outside loop will continually get larger until it ends like it did.
Ouch... Decades ago, the British C/L Combat guys used to put a length of surgical tubing on the intake of their engines, in the event of a ground hit, it would fold over and help keep dirt out of the motor.
Good news. The engine is fine. Cutting the throttle before the hard landing kept the dirt out(and not rotating the engine). Still did a good fuel flush and oil. Will have to replace firewall.

That is great news!
It happened! Today on takeoff I went off the runway and the battery came loose over the ruff field and moved to rear. Being new I fought it all the way down to a high speed landing. Nose gear snapped off and prop only good for toothpicks! Following your steps now. Very little dirt in carb. Phew.

Damn! I'm sorry to hear about that. Let us know how things turn out.
Or the impact shifted the elevator from down to up, but doesn't really matter. Just call the crisis hot line. Just about to comment on the missing plug. Brush it clean, soft brass brush, spray clean to remove dirt, carb cleaner, only external cleaning.
Sand gets everywhere. Good thing your taking it all apart 😀🇳🇱
I am a new nitro flyer. This information is GREAT!

Hopefully you won't need it though.
Many years ago i crashed with my trainer and failed to clean the motor properly, cost me a motor i wished i had this knowledge way back then,,,,,,,,, if you are learning to fly pay attention to this video
Those recomendations should be followed every incident, i've seen fellows damaging severely their engines by turning full of dirt.
The last thing you want to do is to turn over an engine that is chock full of dirt. The dirt is so abrasive.
