I think I have this and being bounced around hospitals it only responds to steroids and they won’t give them long term treatment this is torture last 10 years 😢I can’t cope it’s debilitating mention this in the uk and no one knows anything

I believe I have this too, but I'm 60 years old, now I do have MS , I also have Trigeminal Neuralgia and now it seems to have morphed into this , but it's all on my Right side, I've have several throat exams and all came out fine , and since it's so rare I believe it's not as rare as the stats say it is, I'm in so much stabbing pain in my face and throat, I cannot take those meds bcz the side effects are horrible just like the disease, sometimes I don't even want to live anymore, I have to wait 3 months to get into my Neurologist bcz appts are so far out and they don't care that much anymore anyways, great docs huh? I need some relief and diagnosis or I just want to die 😥

Please don't lose hope. I've been suffering from this for 7 years. I know exactly how you feel.

So I guess I don’t have this, because I have a lasting pain under my tongue that seemingly travels to under my jaw and the opening to my throat.

I think this what I have. I’m afraid to eat solid food. I’m currently just eating soup. I’m loss 20 lbs in A month. No energy. I don’t know what to do. I reached out to my neurologist and they ordered a speech therapy evaluation. Never heard of this being ordered for gloossapharygeal nerve evaluation. It just seems to be prolonging my suffering and weight loss. The stabbing pains are deep in my throat when I eat solid food. No ear pain. I feel like I have something stuck in my throat and it makes me vomit which makes the pain worse. Sometimes this goes on for hours not just minutes. I have no obstruction on barium swallow test except for a hiatal hernia which I had repaired. Had a partial gastrectomy 9 years ago because my vagus nerve was damaged after a Nissan fundoplication. This caused severe gastroparesis, calcified food build up and necrosis of my stomach tissue. This pain was present after this surgery but worse. I couldn’t even keep fluids down and had to be on IVs. The surgeries seem to make this worse. I have intermittent episodes afterwards. This is wearing me down. I hope someone figures this out. Hopefully medication can help.

Whenever I sing or try to speak loudly my nerves in my throat pains sharply ( I feel like someone is injecting a needle into the nerve ) and my ears also pains like hell ....Is it glossopharengyal neuralgia?

I got this condition from extraordinarily long and calcified styloid and stylohyoid processes. Those suckers started touching the C8 nerve root after revision surgery on cervical fusion. Six weeks after cervical fusion revision, the pain started. The same surgery also paralyzed one vocal cord so things were a mess in there. However, I learned that Eagles Syndrome can be so long as to cause GPN. So, shouldn’t treatment for GPM include ruling out Eagles Syndrome and of any evidence of said elongation or calcification, perform the resection? mVD was never offered to me and I had to see 6 surgeons to find the head of the med school vocal cord center willing to get into my neck and help me. We times that repair with several procedures used to help restore my voice.

im not sure if mine is tonsilitis or this sickness, i dont want to approach the doctor yet because i think im still low on funds. all i have is my right tonsil area hurting, when i cough sneeze or yawn it does not have pain, only when i drink cold liquids i get pain

Have you had your tonsils removed? If so, you can get this form of neuralgia due to nerve damage from a poorly done tonsillectomy.

@@KeyTwinster47 I’ve had this since I was 12 years old, I’m 21 now and it’s only gotten worse through the years. After I eat food (usually hot) it feels like hundreds of needles are stabbing me in the back of my throat, under my tongue, in my ears and occasionally my cheeks. It worsens every time I swallow, speak or do anything to move the effected areas. The first step to diagnosis is get a referral to an ear nose & throat specialist from your primary care doctor. From there they can start determining if it’s a throat issue or send you to a neurologist. Although there is a VERY slim chance you can cure this form of neuralgia they can definitely help you manage the pain that occurs with the episodes.
